Blizzard would be the type to shoot themselves in the foot and then spend the next two years mopping up the blood in circles while it continues to drip from their untreated wound.
Just shows where their priorities and resources for the game go. They have given up on balance like they have given up on OWL. This game will just be a worse FPS live service game for 2 - 3 more years until it is shut down.
What scares me the most about this situation is the potential for other gaming companies to pull the same shtick. They managed to fully HOODWINK their entire player base’s wallets and you can’t even sue them. I have no doubt EA is taking notes

Hearthstone players also had this problem last year with the Mercenaries mode. Not a single person wanted it, but they delayed every single patch and each one was filled with bugs. And all was that because "we are working on new mode". Can you guess what happened to this mode, it was cancelled.
The reason for the sequel tie-in, as I believe I recall being said by Jeff himself, was that it would take the work of a whole new game to get the PvE system and Ai-interactions to work, since it was limited for the first one. But clearly Jeff leaving the company was a bad, bad sign that his sequel/prequel cross dream was dead. Truly a shame to see this loss.
This started way earlier. Jeff was still there for a lot of very bad decisions, management and community communication. I mean the Mercy moth debackle lasted for almost a year and that was entierly under his leadership.

Finally someone that talks about this: money. The sole purpose of the executives at Blizzard is money, every decision they make is for money. They killed PvE because it was too expensive and they could sell it once at maybe 60€/$, so they decided it was better to make PvE smaller and sell 100 missions at 20$ each. OW went from a great game managed by people who care (such as Jeff) to a money laundering machine.
The biggest irony is that Blizzard actually did the smartest decision. They saw that they cannot make good on their promises so they relaunched it as FTP game. In that way they made sure to have few more years of feeding on money trought microtransactions before game dies. Its like squizzin that end of meyonnese in the end of tube.

I'm of the belief that Overwatch has always been too much for Blizzard to handle. I mean, look at all their other games, Overwatch is an IMMENSELY different experience and instead of being honest with us and themselves, they gave us WAY too many hopes and expectations just to let us down.
Overwatch never followed Blizzards post modern game design of Hearthstone and WoW and Diablo 3 all cuz of Jeff Kaplan. Once he left it was over I uninstalled right then and everyone shouldve done the same. Its no longer his game anymore.
I think what’s most frustrating is after all these L’s blizzard has Been giving and taking, there will still be people playing OW2 and giving them money
I wonder if there any statistics for that. Just to imagine the amount (low, average or high?) people spend? I have never played any of OW (and unlikely I will), so I’m immune to such things like they did
What most people don't seem to notice is that Overwatch was shutdown because players could earn skins easily and for free. Then Overwatch 2 came out and it is worse game in every possible way. You now have to grind every day and stay active to maybe afford one legendary skin. After that they cut content and are no longer even trying to hide the fact that they only want to maximize profits and don't give a F about player experience.
I mean they could monetize battle pass only, or make only mythic skins for their store. In this way people would not be mad, because it’s new features and it makes sense that they would take money for that. But to make epic and legendary skins monetized is stupid because people already get used to get them for free from loot boxes. So in this case they could make much more money and positive reviews by only adding battle pass or just some specific skins which would worth money, but they destroy everything they had tho
I came into Overwatch when they released it for the Switch. Loved playing it so much I turned around and bought it for PC as well. What I loved the most was the "Lets Find a Group" feature or LFG. It was amazing to just find a group and just talk and play games in between. Honestly it was some of my favorite moments in gaming and I wish more games had that feature. Less than 6 months later they deleted my game, and the new game doesn't have LFG. I uninstalled it from my switch and pc.
I still love Overwatch for it's gameplay and characters, but yeah the PvE stuff getting scrapped is just a HUGE heartbreak, especially for casual players, I was really looking forward to it, such a bummer.
Mans actually spitting so many facts 04:11. Why does it take AN ENTIRE MONTH for the developers to change Junkerqueens ammo from 6 to 8, I seriously don't understand it. I'm not a game dev but I've had my fair few share of working with maths and damage calculations in video games and I can tell you now, its actually as easy as changing 1 variables value, hell in the workshop you can even do this yourself in around 30 seconds, and they're trying to tell us that 7,500 employees who are presumably getting full time salaries cant do this in 30 days and not even test it first?
I've been a creator on the workshop for a while, but I abandoned it when Overwatch 2 broke it and they've never fixed it. Many things are broken, for example, you can't set max ammo for Junker Queen. Setting max ammo with the workshop is broken for 13 characters. (Including all new and reworked characters, because they can't be bothered to hook them up to the workshop system).
@@managers6667 Their hotfix system is all that is needed to change balance knobs. That system bypasses the need to send a patch to console ecosystems, and that system is all that was needed for most of the changes they do, including all the Junker Queen changes.
It doesn't take them a month to change a hero's stats, it takes them a month to release the hero in its current state, see how it manages in the current meta, and change the hero accordingly. You can't rush balance changes because for all you know what you're going to do could make the problem worse.
Blizzard went from one of the most respectable companies to actually being worse than EA at just about every single thing. This is unacceptable and I hope they get a lawsuit for fraud and false advertising. I regret NOTHING not touching OW2 with a 2000ft pole. I knew this would happen. :/
Which is so disheartening. I remember back in the day, with WoW being the king, Starcraft being benchmark for RTS games, and everyone being excited for blizzards new IP because "it's from blizzard". It genuinely felt like you trusted this one company that did things right.
As a TF2 fan I have to say my condolences. No one should have to deal with the same treatment that valve has been giving us over the years and I’m starting to see some very horrifying similarities.
Uh ? wdym same treatment ??? I don't remember valve shutting down tf2 to release mvm, then after everyone was hyped, announce it was just the pvp again with no pve added. Do you ? Because if that's the case, I don't think we live in the same universe.
"Redefining what a sequel means." I'm so glad you brought that up. If this is redefining anything it's our trust in Blizzard's promises to make the game that they said they'd make. What an absolute joke that a company as big as Activision Blizzard could possibly ruin something as fantastic as Overwatch. The game, fundamentally, is one of the best games I have ever played and the fact that it's been reduced to what it is today instead of lifted to even greater heights is disgusting.
The only reason I started playing OW back in 2016 was because of the lore. I’m not an FPS person, I prefer RPGs and adventure games, but the world and story for OW was so intriguing and the characters so likable and the gameplay so friendly and forgiving for people like me, I got totally sucked into it. The announcement of PVE was everything I ever wanted. I’ve basically stopped playing now, haven’t played a serious game since before “OW2”, but I am so sad to hear this news. I’ve never had such a horrible experience with a game company before.
When Jeff Kaplan left in such an aburpt manner I knew something bad was happening behind the scenes. I just never would have imagined it would be this bad.
This is genuinely gut wrenching, I was at blizzcon 2019 and was actually hyped for the pve of overwatch, never cared much for the game, but I really cared for the story overwatch tried to build. Hearing the announcement of the promised pve, the thing that probably would’ve got me back into overwatch since the release of the first game, get completely cut; it made me almost cry. Comparing this with tf2, at the VERY least Valve is radio silent about most updates to the game and never officially announce most things unless they fully intend on implementing them, plus, their messages are vague and left mosty to fan interpretations of what they mean. I’m not saying this is good, what I’m saying is it doesn’t feel like highway robbery.
It's funny that tf2 still lives after 13 yrs though. People really over-speculated that overwatch meant to kill the game, but nah. Overwatch devs and the community literally shot themselves on the foot
@@Bardock059 it's getting a little spoiled because of all the bots. But at least community servers barely has those, it's harder for bots to come to them (especially on nearly full servers)

It’s funny because there actually has been an example of something like this working. Final Fantasy 14. First release was terrible and they basically kept it running while redeveloping it from the ground up and is now one of the best MMOs on the market
Yeah. hell even cyberpunk is decent now. But I don't really see blizzard turning it around at this point. They've gone full blown scum of the gaming industry
no mans sky is also such a game, but i dont see that happening with how they are treating the community at the moment, blatantly lying, taking away from what they promised, shit events and so on...
Ever since OW became free to play, it has been getting the proper f2p treatment. I will never shut up about this. They deliberately removed what made the heroes iconic, like replacing Tracer's "chivalry's here" with a more generic "It's time to save the world". Basically they de-branded OW. I could list the examples all day, there is no longer a main character, none of the heroes stand out, it's all generic "robots" everywhere. The game has fortnite colors now. They were so sneaky with this. None of the visual changes in OW2 feel better, they just feel "different". OW used to be a more private, premium, elevated experience. Now that it's f2p it really feels like an untidy place.
The fact that they shut down OW1 and moved the PvP to OW2 was suspicious from the start. If they actually intended to make PvE they would’ve released OW2 as a PvE version and had OW1 as the PvP version.

Oh right, because no one's spent money on the game under the promise that it would have its lifeblood pumped into it soon. Even if we discount all the people who bought overwatch 1 ahead of OW2s release to avoid having to buy each hero individually, you still have many people who bought stuff for OW2, including heroes and cosmetics, under the promise that the game would have something much more to offer. It'd be like being told there's a free sporting event you can go to, but you can buy special seating to it and team memorabilia ahead of time, only for people to show up after having paid for all the sports stuff sold through the company, who then says "sorry, the game's been cancelled. But hey its okay, you can still tailgate and sit in the stadium if you want; the main event just doesnt exist."
i literally defended the game and the low effort mini events they made because they were "making PVE so they can't put a lot of effort into it",i was starting to trust blizzard again after the deaths of OW1,HOTS and the abandonment of SC2 but this only confirms a suspect that i had since 2020-2019:THEY ONLY CARE FOR FUCKING WOW,if you look at the blizzard news site you will see that WOW has like 3 or more times the amount of news, because its not like they care for other IPs when they can just milk the stupid MMO that 26 million people pay for it every fucking month(without counting expansions and microtransactions) instead of actually developing good games right blizzard? its a job waaay to hard to do
Unfortunately, Overwatch's golden years are over, which is why they don't spend on development as much as they do for wow. Wow makes a LOT to this day, it's unbelievable how much money people spend on mounts, armor sets, and other unnecessary stuff. Since OW doesn't make half as much, they just don't bother creating a decent development team for it.
I think this is a good thing. Cause it just shows that the community is willing to buy crap. Now that the industry knows that, we will get more subpar releases and charged more for them. This is just what we need as a community. Less content at a higher price. Can't wait for $100 reskins.
See that’s the other thing. They call skins “legendary” when they barely look different from default. TF2 knows how to make skins that look different and stand out without messing with the base model heavily
I think it says a lot that I, someone from outside of any sort of fps, pvp, or battle royal fandom, much less Overwatch, can feel your absolute anger and pain through this video and am now invested in whatever is going on here. Great video, keep up the good work!
I was gonna consider redownloading the game once this released, not anymore I guess. The PvP is absolutely miserable with one of the most toxic communities in gaming and now all we have are custom matches and the occasional PVE event that's probably gonna just use recycled assets and that's it. If you truly care about taking a stand against this garbage, stop playing Overwatch 2 and practice what you preach.

This rant was so incredibly cathartic to listen to. Best rant I've heard about this situation yet. As someone who stopped playing OW around 2018, but was looking forward to the PVE, I can't say I'm too surprised. There were SO MANY red flags popping up constantly about the development of this mode that I was 90% sure they were just going to cancel it outright. Still, it sucks that that last bit of hope for this franchise has now completely died out. The character designs are now the only thing that even makes OW somewhat worthwhile anymore at this point. Everything else has gone to complete shit.
5:20 I just wanted to point out that Season 5 isn't necessarily the first season they haven't been working on the PvE they showed off in 2019. Aaron Keller actually mentioned in an interview with Gamespot that they knew in the run-up to launch that they wouldn't be doing that PvE anymore, which means they'd already internally cancelled the PvE before the update even went live.
The doomfist rework killed doomfist making him the objectively worst tank still playable but a car with a flat tire and a torn off roof is still techinacally drivable too but you wouldn't see me driving that piece of sh*t
Overwatch 2 isn't without its innovative merits. It introduced us to the wonderful world of de-building games and re-releasing them in a flimsy guise. We've been taken on a rollercoaster ride where the only excitement is waiting for the next patch to break something new or bring back an old bug. The much-vaunted 'Blizzard polish' is as real as a unicorn at this point.

This actually killed the game. So I played OW 1 the whole idea was the PVE tbh, everyone wanted it and they promised. Skip a few years nothing only 1-2 story missions. Skip few years the support for OW 1 is stop, and they are working on OW 2 fine, they promise a PVE. Skip a few years, PVE is cancelled. @SumoHummel it's bad too because there's no future proofing with it as well, it's a unstable and highly competitive job market

Lmao you’re right. Of course heavy OW fans are gonna be upset but since it’s free they got that sweet sweet casual gamer market

No one in the corporate suites actually has a care to give for the actual game. They just want the money. And the best way to make a ton of money fast is by just doing that-pump and dump.
Its no longer his game anymore.

the blizzard fans won't be eating good tonight.
I wonder if there any statistics for that. Just to imagine the amount (low, average or high?) people spend? I have never played any of OW (and unlikely I will), so I’m immune to such things like they did
Some like the streamers and competitors make a living off of it 😕, so no matter what they have to play and support the company.

I've been a creator on the workshop for a while, but I abandoned it when Overwatch 2 broke it and they've never fixed it.

What an absolute joke that a company as big as Activision Blizzard could possibly ruin something as fantastic as Overwatch. The game, fundamentally, is one of the best games I have ever played and the fact that it's been reduced to what it is today instead of lifted to even greater heights is disgusting.
Let's do the TF2 comparison now, instead of shit decisions, we are getting literally not decisions
Yeah man I feel like ow2 casual is just not nearly as fun or enjoyable, with all the core feature removals, 5v5 and character reworks
I think the OW2 characters look cool, but have pretty flat personalities. Definitely not something worth buying for them or stories about them, imo
I still can't believe they cancelled the game, slightly rebooted it, added new characters and skins... and called it a "new" game
I’m not saying this is good, what I’m saying is it doesn’t feel like highway robbery.

no mans sky is also such a game, but i dont see that happening with how they are treating the community at the moment, blatantly lying, taking away from what they promised, shit events and so on...
Yes but they improved the game.
That’s what was gonna happen meathead….but the ow simps demanded a new ip

Oh right, because no one's spent money on the game under the promise that it would have its lifeblood pumped into it soon. Even if we discount all the people who bought overwatch 1 ahead of OW2s release to avoid having to buy each hero individually, you still have many people who bought stuff for OW2, including heroes and cosmetics, under the promise that the game would have something much more to offer.

Everything else has gone to complete shit.

i’m on the same boat as you, except i really didn’t believe blizzard would be stupid enough to cancel PVE and tank their game
