It was part of the fault of the players, honestly. First it was crying about teams being able to multi-pick the same character in quick play, then it shifted to bitching about team comps, demanding players be forced into 2-2-2 comps... *in quick play.*
Really, I knew the game was going downhill with quick play increasingly becoming an unranked version of competitive, all because of bunch of shitters that thought they had any chance of escaping silver wanted a safe place to "practice" for a competitive setting, implying they were ever going to get better. Sure there were other game modes, including one that mimicked the old quick play, but they were hidden behind the equivalent of page 2 Google search results. No one goes to page 2.
The gist of it is Blizzard sacrificed the core audience of their game on the altar of a game mode that most people don't care about for the sake of try hards that weren't worth a shit. Such a shame games like Battleborn and Gigantic had to die in the shadow of this slow burning dumpster fire.

I haven't played much OW2, but I did feel like some of the old excitement wasn't there, from both myself and the team. It's natural for things to chill out or slow down after many years, but this wasn’t that. All the controversies around them, all the expectations to be one of the well-loved dev teams, the team that gave people hope and comfort. I am not talking about the expectations from the fans. _Blizzard_ used and abused the team's good image. It couldn't have been easy. Eventually, something like that eats at you too much to put on a cheerful face anymore. I feel for them.

The profit is what tells you you’ve done right by the customer, that’s its entire point, and it lets you employ a bunch of men and yourself so everyone’s families are fed. Bobby isn’t profit-motivated, he’s greedy. Greed leads to short term schemes for fast immorally gotten cash. No one ever holds the immorally obtained for long, and we can see how the business of Blizzard is succumbing to the disease of its own immorality as we speak. Before that, blizzard was very good to the customer, and in doing so made a shitload of profit. It was one of the best game development companies ever, and was of course, and as is deserved, one of the richest. Now it is dying, because now it is functioning incorrectly, the profits are dying with it, as they should.

But unlike nintendo, Blizzard just fell off on everything. All their games now are not great anymore... As a software dev I had 0 hope for OW2 especially when Jeff said before launch that "they made multiple prototype of OW2" (which is not something you would want to hear in any software or game development, since that indicates no clear direction or the higher up making massive changes frequently)

Remember the reason they let OW1 go stale? Remember the reason they killed OW1 to make room for OW2? Remember the reason a majority of the player base was even playing? Yeah, well they cancelled it. I’m fact, they stopped working on it as soon as OW2 came out.

Great outro with the Steam price comparison!
Really puts it in perspective. A game like Valheim where me and my friends have spent endless hours together, is cheaper than a skin in OW2. That's just hilarious to me.
I'll keep playing OW2 because I fell in love with OW1, but that's probably the last time I download a game from blizzard.
I remember always thinking "blizzard ONLY gives out quality, like Warcraft, WoW, Starcraft and Overwatch.. Pure quality..". Then these last 3-4 years happened and I realized blizzard is done.

for 40€ you could get the persona 3 and 4 bundle, two of the best jrpgs ever made that will give you at minimum 200 hours of playtime,
or you could get two skins for an overwatch hero

You could pirate those games for $0. Or spend infinitely more money to own a digital license that will be meaningless whenever the game service shuts down. Spending money on video games is a waste of money in the first place doesnt matter if you buy an old ass jrpg or cosmetics in a game, either way its waste

it’s so sad seeing the direction the game has gone since it’s first release. i loved overwatch, not for the gameplay, but for the world and the characters. i can’t remember who said it first but i remember somebody saying that overwatch “made hope feel cool” and i couldn’t agree more
