Your process worked great. And your flub on the electrical connector prevented mine! Brilliant work. Much thanks.
Thank you! Glad to hear it helped you 👍
My lady's 2010 C250 doing this for over a year now. I will definetly be trying this. Thank you for this food for the brain knowledge.
Good luck with it, hope you manage to solve it 👍 Cheers, Phil
👍👍 thank you for pointing me in the right direction.. I was able to keep the switch in the lock and just pick up the arm of the micro switch with some needle-nose pliers and it bent it right back to where it should be!!
Good work, that's a really good option for getting the switch going again 👍
Plain and simple advice straight to the point - brilliant and thanks!
Thank you! 😀
Thank you so much for making this video! This is exactly what was happening with my 2010 GL550. In addition when it was parked the alarm kept going off!
No probs at all, glad the video helped you! Good point about the alarm, I actually had a few sporadic alarm triggers too and didn't associate it with the bonnet latch! Thanks, Phil
Thank you so much for your video! My CLS need only adjusting the length of the U latch at the 8:00 of the video ❤
Great! Glad that worked for you! 😀
Think I just did mine aswell took it for a spin round the block no bonnet light or sound will take it round for longer tomorrow to confirm
❤ One of those to the point, really helpful, no-nonsense vids. Thanks!
You’re welcome and thanks for your comment, much appreciated!
Just to add a little enhancement to this great video. If you follow all of the instructions, as I did, and the bonnet sensor is still coming on, then it may be what had happened to me. That is to say the small flat metal spring which presses on the sensor (you just bent it a little) was sliding along the side of the latch as it was closed, instead of sitting underneath it! To explain it a different way; once you have put the sensor body together with the latch housing and installed it in the car, check the shiny little flat metal spring is sitting correctly UNDER the latch, and not to the side - if it is to the side you will be able to see it when you look down inside the installed latch, and it will not be activated by the latch being closed. To move it into the correct position simply use a small screwdriver and push it down and it will slide under the latch mechanism again. Hey presto.
Thanks for sharing the extra info! Yes, I can see how the wire for the sensor could easily slide off of the bayonet! Cheers, Phil
Thank you for this. I was getting the bonnet open alert but also noticed the bonnet had to be really slammed to shut it so I skipped to the tab adjustment step and so far so good. The bonnet shuts easily and no more bonnet warnings.
Thanks! Glad the video helped you! 🙌 Yeah, you did the right thing, if I was doing it again, I would try tab adjustment first before messing with the switches (which were fiddly and a bit of a faff). Cheers, Phil
Lol, Me again! This happened to me just last weekend. I had just fitted a new battery (from Tayna and followed your video 👍) and thought I'd not put the bonnet down correctly. The light came on with the annoying ding noise as I drove down the road.
Before I got an opportunity to stop I went over a speed bump and the light went out and the noise stopped! I opened and closed the bonnet firmly when I next stopped and its not happened since. I'm sure it will be back tho' and your video will again help me to sort it out.
Cheers and keep up the good work. It looks like your car is one fault in front of mine 😁
Hi @Pufferkusser good to hear from you! Fingers crossed, the light stays off for you! Lol, let's test out the "one fault in front theory"! My car has been saying "Radar sensors dirty" and the drivers side seat belt isn't retracting properly. In the next week or two, you will get one or both of these problems! (Sorry!) 😜
I would like to say THANK YOU.
I followed this step by step and I have fixed the issue.
Thanks for you comment! 😁 Glad it worked for you 👍 cheers, Phil
I ordered a switch but now I will try adjusting the latch, thanks!!!!!!
Yeah, with a bit of luck, a small adjustment will do it for you! 👍
Thanks very much - a little screw turning and now all is fine!
Great! 👍
I thought it will be an easy fix. But whoa, so many steps. I will definitely dismantle my new car apart :D
Hi, it can turn into a fun afternoon! If you take it all apart, try not to have any bolts left over afterwards! 😂Sometimes it is an easy fix, open the hood / bonnet, shut it again. Sounds like you were unlucky... I had to make a small adjustment to my bonnet closure pin as shown at 8:16 in the video and it's been fine ever since! 👍
Thanks@@ReviveMyRide . I will try to gain confidence to try one afternoon :D Best Regards,
I have this issue now with my cls w218. The video was helpful thanks
Hi @pipolebnene Cheers, glad the vid helped you! 👍😎
Excellent video explaining how it works. Thank you
Thanks! 😊
Your information was extremely helpful.
Great to hear! Thanks!
Thank you for you video! You explained how deassemble, so I tried to fix the sensor without taking it apart: I took a zip tie and slightly touched the metal “arm” connected to the sensor from the top of the lock. AND IT HELPED
I got an issue after the car wash. So now everything is working correctly) maybe my path will help somebody: try to touch the sensor before tacking everything apart!)
@@DaniilAKein sounds like you did a good job! And as you say, much easier if you don’t have to take it all apart! 👍 cheers, Phil
@@ReviveMyRide anyway, without your help that wouldnt work. so much appreciate here!)
@@DaniilAKein Thank you!
Excellent video, Really helpful !!!
Thank you!
Changed both sensors and still on what next
Hi, did you try extending the metal bayonet of the bonnet latch (mounted on the bonnet) that goes down into the latch when you close the bonnet? If so, that’s defo the next step. After that, I’m afraid I would be looking at electrical work, so making sure you have got a positive coming to the latch and that it is passing through the latch / switch properly when the bayonet goes into the latch. If you haven’t done that sort of work before, ask around for a recommendation on a good auto electrician. Hope that helps! Cheers, Phil
Well done, thanx for the info ! I might need it one day ?
Ehh re wipers/washers, when i was fixing the C320 and prep for mot i tried the windscreen washer !! Didnt work, i removed reservoir etc but found no issues ! Then whilst searching online, someone stated " remember washers etc dont work if bonnet not closed properly !
Ehh, haha, shut bonnet and all ok. So only an hour wasted !
Hi @arnietwo11 hope you are doing well! Yeah, it's a pain because sometimes nothing works and the message doesn't come up on the instrument panel! I should have mentioned that in the video... Seems like a lot of modern cars have the same set up: VAG group, Porsche etc. Cheers, Phil
Interesting video! It make sense to adjust first from your experience. Any tips on avoiding the breakage, also wondering if bonnet closing technique can cause the problem, slamming or gently pressing to close?
Hi, thank you for your post! yes, if I did it again, I would definitely adjust the bonnet pins first before messing with the sensors. I’m normally pretty good at getting electrical plugs loose but had no luck at all on either of them! Couldn’t even see how I “should have done it” once I got them undone! And yes, I think slamming the bonnet down contributes to the issues.
@@ReviveMyRide thanks, appreciated
Hi, this is a fantastic video one of the best I've seen, showing how it should work, and a great explanation of the problem and the fix. Very thorough and easy to follow. I've used the information to fix this problem and all seemed OK until I went over a large bump in the road and something must have moved or lost contact. Do you have any suggestions as to where to start the investigation?
Thanks! I think the most likely culprit is the adjustment on the bonnet latch tab that goes down into the microswitch as shown at 8:24. Maybe try another small adjustment on it? Thanks, Phil
Thanks, that is exactly what worked. Small adjustments. I thought I had fixed it but under hard acceleration the warning came back, further adjustments and test and finally problem solved. Very happy. Thanks again. @@ReviveMyRide

Hi, you mentioned in your video that that if your bonnet doesnt open again its a pain trying to get it open, i was wondering if you know how to get it open, i have an A180 1.5 AMG and my bonnet release under the steering wheel is broken and im getting bonnet open warnings, when the bonnet is firmly closed, any help would be very much appreciated, thank you.
Loved the video, very simple and informative 🩵🩵
Hi glad you liked the vid 👍😎 I’ve haven’t had this issue before but did a little bit of reading. If you’re lucky, the cable may have snapped at the handle end inside the car. If so, apparently there is a cover around the handle that you can remove and you may be able to grab the end of the cable with pliers. If it has snapped somewhere in the engine bay, one owner took the engine tray off and then reached up with a long flat bar and flipped each one of the latches to the open position. Hope this helps some! Phil
You are great sir!!!
Thanks so much! 😎
Watch the video from the end to the beginning because I will try the mechanical things before going into the internals of the sensor switch and the lock and its wiring
Well explained.
Thanks! 😀
Great video thanks for the info.
Thanks! 👍
What about if you leave the cable unconnected instead? Would that remove the warning on the dash?
That's a really good question! But as mine is working right now, I'm not gonna mess with it! However, here's my thought: It depends on how the switch works, normally open or normally closed.. I suspect that it won't make the light go out. The reason for this is, I'm pretty sure that because Mercedes will consider the bonnet switch to be a safety device, they will have designed the switch to "fail safe", that means if the switch stops working for any reason, the light comes on. Unplugging the switch is the same as the switch failing / not working. But, if you test it, would love to hear how you get on! Cheers, Phil
Merci beaucoup
vous êtes les bienvenus! Content que la vidéo vous plaise. bravo, Phil
great informative video, thanks for posting!
You’re welcome! 👍🙂
I’ve having similar problems and one thing I’ve noticed is that orange electrical switch isn’t anywhere to be found. So the bonnet switch isn’t going into anything? Any advise?
@4Evablessed Only thing I can think to check is as follows: I've heard that not all cars have two switches (usually there are two bonnet latches, one on either side at the front). Have you checked them both? If not, you might find the plug, switch etc on the other side. Presumably the switch was working ok previously? If so, it must be there! Thanks, Phil
@@ReviveMyRide.. my car in the USA was on the passenger or right front..
@@Fred-cw2ev 👍 thanks!
Great video!

Do you know if this repair also applies for a 2014 ML350 V6?
Hi, I'm pretty sure the info will be applicable to your Mercedes ML. Have a quick look under the hood, you should see a very similar latch and sensor arrangement to that shown in the video. Thanks, Phil
I have been working to correct this situation with the warning indicator, my passenger side latch will not lock in place when manually pressing down, removed latch and works fine but when I install and trying to push down remains open, any ideas?
Hi @garyfeatherston4850 my best guess: it sounds like the bayonet on the underneath of the bonnet / hood isn't going far enough into the latch. If you haven't done so already, I would extend the one on the passenger side a little bit as shown at 08:15 in the video. Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil
@@ReviveMyRide Thank you, however when I press down on the latch while it is installed it will not click to lock, stays open, when I remove the latch it functions fine. could it be the cable or sensor?
@@ReviveMyRide it was a bad cable system I had, replaced and works fine.
Do you think it's same for my c300 4matic 2010 w204 ? Will this work ?
Yes, Merc have been using a very similar system for quite a while. I’m pretty sure the info in the bud is relevant to you. 👍
Thank u Sir
You're welcome! 👍😎
Can the wing mirror switch on my Mercedes CLK be fixed or do I need a replacement? Thanks L Meredith
@user-nt7hd1xh6k Sorry, I would need a lot more information to help answer that question! I assume you have an electric wing mirror and the switch you are talking about is an electric switch that either controls the glass in the mirror or causes it to fold? If so, the first step is to see if power is getting to the switch. If it is, when you click the switch, does power come back out of it and go to the mirror. If a switch is cheap to buy used from Ebay, it can sometimes be useful to buy one and swap it in but if you have a problem with your electricity supply or earth, or with the mirror itself, it won't fix your problem.... Hope that helps! Thanks, Phil
The switch controls automatic folding of mirrors when doors are closed, also dipping and raising mirrors to aid parking.
The motor is working because it closed the mirrors but would not open them again.
It’s a unit in the dashboard which can be used to operate the wing mirrors manually.
Hope this helps.
@@user-nt7hd1xh6k If you are sure power is getting to the switch but when you click the buttons, it doesn't travel through the switch, then it does sound like the switch is faulty and I haven't ever been able to repair a sealed switch, probably contacts inside have failed. So, unfortunately, it does sound like a replacement will be required. If you remove the switch and get the part number from the back of it, you will be able to search google and Ebay for a replacement. Always worth trying Mercedes too, sometimes they are actually cheaper! Cheers, Phil
@@ReviveMyRide Thanks Phil….
The Mercedes man did get the mirrors out to their correct position but when asked about a replacement switch said they couldn’t obtain any.
At least the mirrors are open and usable.
Thanks for answering my queries.
L Meredith
@@user-nt7hd1xh6k No probs at all, I don't think I helped that much! Glad you got the mirrors out so you can use them. On our old CLK the folding mirrors got a little temperamental too. Thanks, Phil
Hi tried changing my bonnet switches but issue still remains no fault codes are present via Xentry. Pls advise thanks
Did you try extending the bayonet as shown at 8:15 in the video? If so, All I can think of is a bad wire / connection to the switches. So, if the wire that goes to the bonnet switches is damaged in some way. From memory, they run along the underneath of the slam panel and then up left hand side of the engine bay. Hope that helps some! Thanks, Phil
Hey Please Help. Is there a Fuse Or Relay for tye The Hood Lock Switches? My Right Side Switch is Saying Closed when the Lock is Actually Open and Then Says Open when the Lock is Actually Closed. I Have Good Battery Voltage 12.5V. I Have Checked the Wires I Even Replaced The Wire, But Still Not Fixed. The Fusebox does not Say what Fuse/Relay for the Hood Lock Switches.. Can you Help Please??
Thanks.
I love u boss❤
Thanks so much! 😂 I haven't had this comment before from anyone but I appreciate it! 👍
Does anyone know the fuse responsible
There probably won’t be a single fuse just for the hood open warning. It will probably be a fuse that powers multiple functions. It is possible to fool the sensors though if you start googling how to bypass the bonnet switch sensor with a resistor. Be careful though because the car will no longer know and be able to warn you if the bonnet is open. Cheers, Phil
I like how your face suits your voice
I get that a lot… 😂
Mark 2 escorts don't have this problem
Ha ha, yes, I can imagine they don’t! That’s progress huh! 🤔
If I disconnect the cable will it still pop the message ?
Honestly, I don't know! If you try it, remember that your car may have two switches, one on each latch. Cheers, Phil
