    Thanks for the tip on upping the shutter speed. It seems common sense, but I'm still learning how to best use my camera’s manual settings and get miffed when my pictures aren't sharp. This will help a lot!!

    Tim, love the tips and liked the vlogs so don't lose them in the other vlogs I subscribe to. You always provide sound advice and back it up with your images, even the sorry ones. As always look forward to the next.

    Phenomenal video, Tim!
    Are you still using the Canon EOS R a lot, and did you shoot these pictures with it?
    I’m considering saving up for this camera body, and maybe a Canon 400mm f/5.6L USM lens or Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS II USM lens. The prime is cheaper and as sharp, but it doesn’t have the IS and zoom capacity.
    I’ll use this for bird photography, wildlife photography, landscape photography and street photography. I mainly shoot pictures of birds. I don’t need a fast frame rate, if that just results in more pictures in less time.
    Extra reach would do, though. I’m using a combination of the Canon 6D camera body, and Sigma 150-600mm f/5-6.3 DG OS HSM C lens as of now.
    I’m also thinking of getting a Sigma 50mm f/1.4 DG HSM A lens with this camera body instead of the expensive RF lenses. How do you think the Art lenses compare to the new RF lenses?

    Great tips thanks. Is there a difference between extension tubes and extenders?

    • @GodwitMediaLLC
      @GodwitMediaLLC  5 років тому +2

      Extenders or Tele-converters as they are sometimes called have glass in them and magnify the image. Most are 1.4 power or 2.0 power so a 100 mm lens would be a 140mm lens and with the 2.0 a 200mm lens. Extension Tube are hollow, and do not have any glass in them, they act as a spacer between the camera and the lens and are most often used in macro photography so the camera and lens can focus closer. In bird photography a lot of the lens have a 10 to 14 foot minimum focusing distance, and an extension tube will reduce that so you can be closer to the bird.

    Thank you for the video. Some very important things to learn.
    One point of dissent. Use of flash should be avoided while shooting wildlife. Wildlife Biologists maintain, sudden burst of light might adversely affect vision of the subject. For me, I'm happy to lose an awesome moment for the sake of their safely as their lives are far more important than a "great shot" of mine.
    Thanks again.

    I assume mostly you are shooting in manual mode, is that correct? I am still in AV because my main focus in the past has been more macro work.

    • @GodwitMediaLLC
      @GodwitMediaLLC  5 років тому

      Hi Regina,
      Yes I mostly use Manual Mode, I find that when I'm tired, I switch to Aperture Priority Mode because I shot that way for over 25 years. My goal is a soft background, and that's more important to me then what mode I use to get there. So if I get a good soft background with Aperture instead of Manual no one will know the difference. Lots of ways to get to the same place in the exposure triangle and photography.
      Thanks For watching the tutorials

    better not to use flash on birds..

    • @GodwitMediaLLC
      @GodwitMediaLLC  5 років тому

      Most birds do okay with some flash use, I would agree not to over use it, if a bird seems agitated, it's time to stop.
