Geoff is with a group called Voiceplay. Although, he and the bass singer of Home Free, Tim Foust, are actually friends. Geoff is singing every part of this; he has a 5 octave range.

Tennesee Ernie Ford did it when I heard it the first time. It's All Geoff singing all the parts. He's the bass for VoicePlay. Take a listen to his cover of " Take Me Home Country Roads. You need to go and listen to more VoicePlay the group. AMAZING. I also love Home Free with Tim Foust as bass. Can tell that I have a thing for smooth bass singers.

@@tatewakinew My Mother Told Me Maunalee probably will like, because Eli is the show runner as well and harmonies. besides Geoffs bass is actually used as mood setting, not "just" low notes for cool factor or even beat setting (though obviously still present). Oogie Boogie she might enjoy for the wackiness & theatrics or when she's just a big fan of the original.
Geoff's Headless Horseman is one among his solos I would say not to recommend. That's all about the low notes.

Your description of it as "burps" really make me worry that your headphones and/or your sound card are unable to process his voice and actually let you hear it properly...
Growls are a technique used in bass singing, but he didn't use that at all in this video, so it shouldn't sound that way at all.
Most of the reaction videos to this one done by pro musicans actually comments on how clear his singing is, how you can hear the diction etc perfectly unlike a lot of basses out there.
I totally get that these super low notes isn't for everyone.
But your description makes me worry that this isn't a case of you not liking his singing and rather of you not *hearing* his singing due to your equipment making it impossible for you to actually give it a fair evaluation.
I hope that isn't the case though.

Yes you're wrong.. He's from VoicePlay. I think it's high time that VoicePlay was better known. Everybody talks about Homefree or Pentatonix but But VoicePlay are equally good and so much more versatile and fun. See Geoff's solo of The Bare Necessities, for him having fun. He's now done a lot of deep bass covers on his own as most women melt on hearing his voice. Actually a lot of men are impressed too. Sex sells, as they say. He's no fool. :) Maybe try True Colours to hear their beautiful harmonies, or Can't help falling in Love with you.
Yes Geoff's range is that wide. He layered the audio as well as the video. Geoff just likes to do solo stuff on the side that's not with Voiceplay. Austin, Chance and Tim also do solo stuff on personal channels outside of the Home Free channel.
This song was written decades ago about actual life as a coal miner. The original song was sung by Merle Travis in 1947 but Tennessee Ernie Ford made it famous in 1955. It's been covered by numerous singers over the years.

I would suggest checking out Geoff’s cover of either Blackbird or High and Dry. Hes a bass singer but also goes into a mid range for most of those songs making them sound very pleasing

Usually I really like your reactions, but disappointed in your view since Geoff Castalucci (VoicePlay Acapella group) is a fabulous singer...his range is 5 octaves !! Listen to VoicePlays rendition of "Ooggie Boggie Song" (from Tim Burton's "Nightmare Before Christmas")...you might change your mind !!

You need pretty high end ones to really apprechiate good bass singers.
The super low notes may not always be the best choice, but Geoff knows his fans(me) want it.

I think you will find Merle Travis was the original singer and composer in the 40’s. Is one of those songs that has been covered by a multitude of singers including Johnny Cash, Tom Jones, Tennessee Ernie Ford to mention just a few. ❤️🤘🇦🇺

Until hearing this version, I think the deepest voice I have heard came from the rendition by the Platters. Amazing how many times this has been covered.

Voiceplay ft Rachel Potter "Under the Sea" medley might be something you like. Rachel's "Ariel" is beautiful, they have some humour in it and Geoff's bass is more in the background. He's Ursula so more of his deep notes is really just speaking.

This is NOT his deepest - nor is it his highest... He can dust the rafters as well as clear out the cellar. I believe that is in Voiceplays "Oogie Boogie" song. That or "Kidnap the Santy Clause". Geoff's "solo" work is for those that want the rumble as well as some songs that are less mainstream.

(2) This is not his whole range, down or up - "Sixteen Tons" are made all in his chest voice range without fry, growl etc. (3) If you prefer not too much bass - you might want to listen to VoicePlay's rendition of Can't Help Falling in Love.

Miners were paid in script which was good at the company store, which the coal mine owners also owned. So basically, they received the pay back in exchange for goods. There was not any shopping for the best price since the script was only good at the company store.

The attention to detail, the inventiveness, and sheer work it took to record each line, each vocal range, and synchronize them is astounding. He can sing subharmonic notes off of the piano keyboard. The harmonies are amazing, why don’t you listen to certified vocal coaches, especially those that sing opera, they will break down the harmonies for you and educate your musical ears.

Part of the reason Geoff sang this as low as he did is because Ernie Ford, who popularized the song in the '50s, had a deep voice and sang in lower keys than other popular singers. Geoff figured that since the song was known to be sung in a low voice, he'd put his deep bass twist on it. Maybe it was one of the few songs that Geoff could sing along with comfortably in his natural range as a teenager.
Or that's me projecting because I can't sing tenor lines, like, at all.

As folks have noted, his version of this song was not the original, but it was the most well-known one. He had his own TV variety show at the time (late 1950s), so exposure was not a problem.

Tim Foust of Home Free has worked with Geoff to help with holding the low growl (G0) notes. Tim has a 6 octave range where Geoff has like a 4 or so. Tim has also worked with Avi Kaplan from Pentatonix to do the same thing. Love all 3 of them though. Geoff has a nasal quality, Avi is smooth & Tim can hit the growl note without the growl.
