Juan Soto is a great player and I think he will do very well with the Mets. By the way, I believe Alex Rodriguez should have chosen the Mets when he had the chance. I think Alex career would have been even bigger since he was the best player/best shortstop; playing for the Mets as opposed to playing out of his natural position, and then being villainized by his own team did not help Alex reputation and career at all...I could not believe how the Yankees sicked their dogs, Michael K and company, on Alex when they were not happy with him.

He definitely regrets it but Boras ruined that. There was a CHANCE for Arod, Griffey, and Piazza.

Todd Zeile, I believe, from what I saw, homered in Game One of the 2000 World Series during the infamous "Timo Perez play". I saw the ball surpass the top of the wall and fall out to the warning track for sure. Instant replay in 2000 would have revealed this and the 2000 World Series would have undergone a different complexion.

Who would you want batting 1st? Soto with Pete protecting him? Or Pete with Soto protecting him?
I choose Pete with Soto behind him.

He turned down 158M, he turned down 90M. He is not worth what he thinks he is worth. Either he accepts offer or wave so long

I'm a die hard Mets fan, and very thankful for Todd Zeile's contributions during his playing career. However, his broadcasting career has been atrocious and it's dragging the rest of an outstanding SNY crew

Not true. Pete IS an asset up to a certain salary. That’s the unanswered question at the moment, how much will he ultimately sign for?

The Mets need another bat. No doubt. If it just ends up being +Soto and -Alonso ... that isn't a great calculus. It is a net positive, but not hugely so. If the Met bring back Pete or land Bregman, that is a real net-positive on the offense. And that is important. We'll see what happens. My take is to pay Pete not just for his current "market value," but also for what he's meant to the team and the fans up until now. Just get it done. It could be a great lineup. Just get it done.
