- This is the original opening sequence from the Comedy playhouse pilot episode, which has a longer opening sequence than subsequent episodes, the theme tune is also longer, (the longest version of the original OST available) and there is no audience applause over the main theme tune, the main theme is preceded by the comedy playhouse opening sequence and theme, which does have some audience applause.
A UK classic in every sense

Steptoe & Son was first broadcast by the BBC in 1962.
Sandford & Son came 10 years later in 1972.
Catchy wee tune 😊
This is the best version, I think the others are slightly different, this is definately the original.
Love the comedy playhouse tune. Happy Joe!
0:37 now there's a happy soul
Oh my gawd
brilliant programme
the first time i heard this was on the dvd boxset at first i thought it was a jamican version as dvd extra but then i thought hang this is the first version of the the tune sounds great the reason i thought jamican was thought it was steel drums lol
This seems different from the composers Old Ned original but i agree it's the best one.
Definitely like “Sanford & Son”. The son pulls into the junkyard and the dad gets up to help him unload.
Yeah a bit like it, only thing is that this the original version of that
Reared on those progs! don't make them like that anymore!
The other way round. We stole it from them.
Boring
Play Quincy Jones' "The Streetbeater" over this.
Arsehole!
Ryo Amora Ya Burk!😡😠🤬
