  • Best Tarp Tent Shelter Setup with a 4.5 x 3 Metre DD XL Tarp, Has a Groundsheet!
    Step by Step Tutorial on how to set up the Tarp!
    In my opinion, this is the best tarp setup using the rectangular 4.5 x 3 metre tarp, creates a huge space with maximum coverage, and best of all has a groundsheet! Using only 1 trekking pole or stick, and 7 pegs or sticks...

    I was a nomad in the 80s and raced my nova across the country for food and gas and this was the tarp setup I used when I found a wooded area. Haven't seen anybody do this setup in ages. Thanks for sharing this man. Brought back some good memories.

    I'm shocked how easy it actually is to build this. I was on the fence between buying a 2-person tent or a 4.5x3m tarp. I'm getting the tarp for sure now!

    I used your instructions to make a tarp tent on a 3 nite hike and it worked flawlessly. The flaps can be carabinered together instead of staked back to keep the cold out too.

    Only modification I'd make is to move the starting points back a bit either to the next holes or use clips to go about halfway, this then pulls back excess ground sheet while creating more space and more material to close it up further. But you may be left with 50% floor, which is almost as good as no floor

    If you peg the 2 ground sheet corners to the side middle attachment points and tie some 550 cord to the center attachment point of the floor to the center of the hood, you can hoist the floor up to make a door with a good seal. Cool tarp setup, but no good for Australia, where you want to keep all the venomous snakes and spiders out of your tent. Also no good for the winter where you want to keep the wind from coming through the door and blowing all the warmth off you.. So, in other words, it's only good for summertime in countries with no ground-dwelling insects, reptiles or curious mammals. So, basically just the UK for two weeks of every year, all with a tarp that packs down larger and heavier than a fully enclosed two-person freestanding tent with bathtub floor, zippered doors and No-see-Um mesh...

    • @charliemcdowell5231
      @charliemcdowell5231 2 роки тому +1

      I'm sure at a certain point winter conditions are harsh enough to warrant a fully enclosed 4 season tent. Winter is the main time when I use my tarps the most, and i've always done less enclosed shelters than this, so this would be massive protection in comparison to an A frame or asymmetrical lean to which are the types I normally use down to 0F (-17C). I wouldn't want to use a tarp in summer here in MO without a bug net, and definitely not in Australia! You guys have all sorts of nasties, tent for sure in those places.
