Morning Jack. Nice of you to say that. I am always about if you, or any other the other guys need me. Just call me Allan or JB. Take care mate and say hello to Milly for me. 😉👍
You should check out a channel called "papa hiker" if you are into tarp camping. He has the most and best videos on pitching various tarp shelters. It's a gem of a channel. Personally I don't like or find it necessary to incorporate a floor into the tarp shelter. I prefer just a separate ground sheet since making one with tyvek or polycro adds no weight to your pack. Mainly because I don't want to put Xtra wear on my tarp by laying on it and also because rain can pool on top of the tarp floor given it goes all the way to the edge like in the video
Dude be smart and take an enclosed tent. This is a good set up and I've added it to my knowledge but I'd never take a tarp if there was a tent available. Spiders aren't going to unzip a tent to let themselves in
What I really like about this tarpsetup is, that when you store your tarp already folded to an triangular, you can set it up in the pouring rain without the inside getting wet. Hands down the best setup for an hunting/ hiking or bushcrafting tour in my opinion. Thank you for sharing👍 You can also pack it without the inside getting wet. To speed up the process of setting it up, you can start packing it by leaving the string that conects to the tree on the tarp. Just leav it out so that you can reach it when your tarp is fully packed (thatway you can hang it fully packed to the tree and pull it out and getting a good amount of tension to it). Now remove all pegs but the first two and pull the lose corner out. Now stuff your tarp inside the bag starting with this lose corner. Remove the last two pegs when you reach them but let the loops and the treeline hang out. When you reach your next campside simply hang your bag and pull out this loops. Your camp while be set up in no time. Its also helpfull when its pitch black and you can only use limited lightsources.
I've been researching tons of tarp builds with a 10x10. And this I think is the winner. Low complication, only requires 1 tree or main object to tie to, floor and door, no full guy-line needed, tons of room. Bravo, can't wait to try this soon!
“Is it better than any other tarp set up? No but i just get bored.” Uhhhhh this is way better than every other tarp set up haha i love how humble this guy is
Really like this configuration. I'm a fan of the fully enclosed ones and I imagine this would be a great stealth shelter with the camo. I always feel too exposed with the open configurations. Might give this one a go. Another good one is the pyramid configuration.
This is very similar to my go-to tarp shelter. So many people on UA-cam make things so complicated with tarp shelters. Simple is better. Thumbs up to you.
I purchased a 12x12 Kodiak Lodge tent ⛺️... she's a sweetie, but not for backpacking in with. This is great knowledge to have... especially if Grand kids show up... I can pull the tarp out and they can have their own setup and it only takes a few moments to setup !!! Thanks for the great demo video. ...Alan in 🇨🇱
That is brilliant mate! I'm definitely going to try this. You did a great job of explaining, but even when you realized that you had made a slight mistake, you explained it so well I didn't get confused. Looks like you could almost stand up in it. With a 4x4 tarp I'm sure you could.
That's brilliant. I'm visiting my mother-in-law and my wife told me to leave the tent at home! However she didn't say anything about the two tarps I have in the bottom of my bag 😉 Will be trying this one tomorrow. Cheers, great video
Your video shows another benefit of having a square tarp. I agree with you on having doubts about using a tarp as a ground sheet but if needs must you don't have any choice in the matter; I'd rather run the risk of getting a hole in a groundsheet costing less than half the price of my tarp. ATB
The black ground sheet I use is just a cheap discount shop type one, so disposable really. Saying that its done a few years now. 👍 Thanks for watching. JB.
I bought a roll of black and white poly sheeting ages back for a project and ended up with a nice offcut that is maybe 2.5 by 3, usual use is peg it out white side up, scop a load of leafage on it and let that dry off a bit, and the tent goes up over the top so insulated/mattressed and it packs down to my favourite dimension of approximately fkall. :-)
This is an easy and full coverage enclosed Plow point tarp config. It's easy, roomy, great in really bad weather conditions and allows for the doors to be flyed out on nice days with a fire out front! Love this style! Great instruction too, ty!
That is a brilliant set up, very cool, definitely one I'm going to try, never seen this set up before, good health and safe travels my friend, cheers craig
Now this is a great configuration. Sure beats the pole in the middle and the low entry and room. Having a bad back and limited flexibility your setup here could work for me. Thank you.
Fantastic! I’ve been looking for a tarp setup with a floor. I don’t understand the concept of camping when it’s not cold. Sweating under a tarp is not my idea of a good time. So for me, a design that minimizes cold wi d blowing under the edge of the tarp into my shelter is the ticket. From the U.S. I say thank you sir.
That is looking good, a bit cold and 30 cm snow outside so I probably wait a bit before trying it. At around 7 minutes camera started focusing on the big foot on the background, I would say is the most plausible explanation 🤓. Thumbs up and tagged the channel, thank you.
I was shown this method in the late 70s. It's a very good design . Only thing different is to roll a small diameter stick into the edge( or place it under) the ground sheet part so water doesn't run in as easily if it rains. Other than that, its a brilliant way to use a tarp.
I made this kind of tarp tent with a walking stick and guide lines in open field no trees (much easier to adjust angles ;), way back in 1997 with blue tarp...it was fine bit dump...I like tarps because you can use them for different things.
I use this setup with my pack and dog when not too windy. I put the pack all the way in and it leaves me with a roomy space to be and sleep. My pup is content to be in there too. Mind you, only when there is no possibility to hang, because that's my favourite way of sleeping out. Hammock, with the same tarp over it. And yes, the dog goes into the hammock too.
@@jim-bob-outdoors Well I think you did a great job for being new to it, but if you have the time and don't mind doing another take of this pitch I'd love to see it. I just tried to myself with my square tarp, went up in a pinch!
Brilliant mate! I tried this set-up today and made a few errors. I came to UA-cam; you’ve answered exactly what I was looking for answers for regarding the placement being a foot or so away from the tree attachment area. Well explained, calm and relaxing tutorial. Thanks! Subscribed as well 😊

Seen similar set up on (far north bushcraft) with a link to a Spanish guy who he got the idea from ,they just use a pole at front , nice little setup well explained 👍
Brilliant idea! I’m putting my Bug Out Bag together and will be using a 10’ x 10’ tarp and was REALLY. Glad to see the floor, because I live in South Florida where we have beautiful weather and scenes but ALL KINDS of preditators: snakes, cats, alligators, crocodiles, just to name a few and you don’t want to sleep on the bare ground, do this setup will work great! Thanks so much for your video….just a note for future: I could barely hear your instructions unless you were up close to the front, All the best!
Glad you enjoyed it. Yes the sound was crap because I was using an old phone. I have a microphone now. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Regards JB.
This may well be exactly what I've been looking for Allan. Will give it a go and see if it works with my DD UL 3 X 2.9 tarp. Will definitely use a footprint. The DD Magic Carpet folded in half may be big enough. Will probably have to use a tree, my trekking poles only extend to 135cm.
This is a Tarp Tent, can be set up ~ 2min. Good in the rain, and benefits from a square shape, 9x9 feet for comfort. I like to use the longer side as a door that can be canopied out at different levels to allow for a covered space to use for cooking, but still covered from the rain, and improving air flow.
This is similar to a cornet, which is doorless and pegs the centre ridgeline into the ground instead of being offset, id called it a modified or enclosed cornet. Seems like an incredibly useful config for bad weather with only one tree available. I've never used this before but I think im gonna try this in a slightly different order to avoid the pitching guesswork by tieing it to the tree first then putting the ground tieouts in.
I was coming up with enclosed+floor tarp designs from making models from a square piece of paper, the best one I could think of was as a matter of fact exactly what you have done here! I haven't tried to do it with a tarp yet. It was good to know the slumped bit is where the centre loop is since my tarp only has a centre loop (in addition to the side loops). I was going to name the design after myself, but since you beat me to it perhaps it should be called the jim-bob tarp
Very intresting, watched this 3 times... fixing to purchase a DD Tarp... I'm gonna get the 4 × 4 meter. Just a bit more room. Very nice setup. Thanks 😊 ...Alan in 🇨🇱
If you stake the side under the floor on the edge and stake the two together at each point, there won’t be such an opening. Putting it together that way creates a less-penetrable shelter and reduces any chance of rain entering the shelter.

Could always run an extra line off to a tree from where you were pulling in the middle of that vertical line over head. Pull that whole thing out just a bit more instead of redoing the entire structure...? I'm sure you know that, I just figured I'd throw it out there. Nice little set up though. I haven't used this one in a while. Thanks for sharing.
I like this config Allan. Looks tricky from where I am but I'm sure with a couple of practice runs it would be as easy as you made it look. All the best. Mark
Its quite easy when you do it. Just have to remember to have the 1st 2 pegs offset from the tree about a foot or two. Can also be done with a walking pole and a guy line in the open. Regards Allan.
You're right, I don't think I've ever seen this setup, whatever it's called, on the UA-cam. Seen it elsewhere though but I'd forgotten about it. I'm assuming that's a 3x3m tarp? Thanks for a nice straight forward video without all the faffing about.
Simple and quick. Get those two thing's right and the rest is so much easier. No heavy tent poles. The one super quick Basha trick I remember was the Cleopatra roll up. Just lay it out and roll your self up inside it. If time weather and any other enemy is encroaching fast it will get you covered. Just make sure you don't roll yourself up to tight by keeping your arms out.
SCET (Square Corner Enclosed Tent) or RTT (Right Triangle Tent) or RATT (Right Angle Triangle Tent) lol, but I don't know if any of those are appealing names. I do love that setup though. Nice video.
if you make a floor with the tarp, the tarp should be bigger and bulkier. It means it is better to carry a tent instead of big and bulky tarp. Just make a top cover with smaller tarp and make a floor with your poncho. One tarp and a poncho combination is fantastic.
My local over-priced outdoorsy store had sold out of camo DD tarps when I bought mine😞, I'm more than happy with my huuuge 4x3.5, but would I prefer camo? Hell yes!😞, looks awesome! Isn't it called 'the floored pyramid'? Have a look at 'Owtandabowt', he's using tarp-clamps and coming up with genuinely different designs and variations- they certainly make more shapes possible🤔👍
I saw this setup twice now on youtube and your explanation is very good!👍 I'm definitely going to try this out. I wonder how stable it is in stronger winds and if this would also work with a trekking pole instead of a tree. 🤔
@@jim-bob-outdoors I wonder if you'd tie down the pole in three directions if that would make it more stable against wind. I sort of really like the idea this setup has a ground sheet!

Glad you like it! Regards JB.
I like that one Allen. Gonna give it a try I think.
Thanks!
Very good video. I'd probably call that the "Floor & Door Tarp Setup".
lol
Thanks for watching. 😁👍
Brilliant mate thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it. 😎
You're right, I don't think I've ever seen this setup, whatever it's called, on the UA-cam. Seen it elsewhere though but I'd forgotten about it. I'm assuming that's a 3x3m tarp? Thanks for a nice straight forward video without all the faffing about.
Thanks Davie. Just a bit of fun and yes a 3x3 tarp, but any square one will do.
Love this! Thanks for sharing.
My pleasure.
Nice setup there..one of kind..I never seen this style before..I like it..simple and easy..if u have other style setup u can make a video of it..thx😄
Glad you like it. I have a few set up videos on the channel. 👍
Nice video.
Thanks for watching. 👍
This is perfect!!! Thank you for sharing!
Glad it was helpful! JB.
if you make a floor with the tarp, the tarp should be bigger and bulkier.
It means it is better to carry a tent instead of big and bulky tarp.
Just make a top cover with smaller tarp and make a floor with your poncho.
One tarp and a poncho combination is fantastic.
great set up. thanks
Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. Regards JB.
Thanks. Great idea.
Glad it was helpful!
Tarps are awesome! 🤠👍💯
Yes they are! 😁👌
@@jim-bob-outdoors was that a ten by ten?
@@westonfurman3833 yes mate, 10x10 foot.
"who can give me a name for this?"
Uhm, fully-enclosed tarp tent...
Hi JB
Thanks for the informative video!
Where can I buy your tarp
I love the pattern and the color.
Greetings Alan
This is a direct link to the tarp, but sometimes they are sold cheaper on Amazon. 👍 www.ddhammocks.com/product/dd_tarp_mc?from_cat=33
What a brilliant set up there friend. I’m definitely gonna incorporate this into my survival skills plan 😇🙏👍👍
Its a interesting one, have fun Tom.
Very useful. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks Nice one! I have the same 3 x 3 DD Tarp will give it a go on next outing 👍
Hope you enjoy it! I must do this again for a camp at some point.
Thanks for that Billy, I will check that channel out. 👍
I saw this setup twice now on youtube and your explanation is very good!👍 I'm definitely going to try this out. I wonder how stable it is in stronger winds and if this would also work with a trekking pole instead of a tree. 🤔
Yes you can do it with a pole. Strong winds I would make a Tipi though. 👍
@@jim-bob-outdoors I wonder if you'd tie down the pole in three directions if that would make it more stable against wind. I sort of really like the idea this setup has a ground sheet!
@@residentgeardo long as you set it up with the pointed end into the wind, it should do ok.
Depending on the pegs. To waterproof the one side. Might be able to put the tarp wall part bottom under the ground part and pegnit from the inside.
I always put a groundsheet underneath.
Best way my friend.
Nicely done . I do a 5×7 ground trap as well
Thanks for watching my friend.
Great video, better than most at showing how it's done.
I appreciate that, thanks. 👍
Poor man's tent.. :p. Still really cool!
It's a Pyramid Tent and I love that setup. I use it fairly often.
I do the Pyramid a bit different. 😁 ua-cam.com/video/jFcQQPZKpeA/v-deo.html
@@jim-bob-outdoors I think everyone does and I even have 3 different Pyramids. I actually call this Pyramid tent #1 LOL
Just saw this and since it's a tarp...in a trapezoidal shape....I'm gonna say you can call this set up.......tarpezoid !!!!!..... cheers
Great answer. 😁👍
I like that one JB, can't say I have ever seen it before though, but it does remind me of the cornet I believe it's called?
Yes the cornet is similar, but a bit more curved and normally uses a pole.
Now imagine putting a tracking pole up in to the roof towards the back to tension it and raise it a little bit
