    Amazing! The switch is for deploying (abwurf = Throwing out) the trailing antenna (schleppantenna) a long wire that trailed behind the aircraft in the slipstream and gave long range HF communications by Morse code, as opposed to the vhf (UKW in German) short range communication that was the mainstay of the Luftwaffe . Excellent find! :)

    For those asking how he is picking up coal. Coal contains various minerals that will ding a detector. Same thing happens with sand on a beach. Coal also contains Mercury which is a metal.

    fantastic find with the holster, ammo and clip. I am aware that they were issued to officers and non commissioned officers. I wonder if when the war had come to an end, the owner discarded it under the rock? Pilots were also issued the side arms as well. It's a shame the weapon was not there, as if it was a luger, it would be worth a penny. They stopped producing the luger as it was too costly and changed it for a similar model during the war. Thanks for bringing history alive, really interesting. Keep going mate!

    The food container lid with key for rolling it up was a cool find. I can imagine a soldier sitting in his foxhole opening his meal for that day. Seeing the different food containers in your videos made me think, did they have containers that had crackers or biscuits in them? I thought the cartridges you found on the surface were in good shape considering they had been on the surface all these years. The antenna cover and searchlight rod were interesting finds. Things I had never seen before until I started watching your videos. After the great find on the holster, did you continue searching to see if you could find the gun or have you gone back searching hoping to find the gun? Very nice adventure in this video.

    • @WW2HistoryHunter
      @WW2HistoryHunter  2 роки тому +1

      yes sometimes i imagine a soldier sitting there and then the alarm comes on and the container just thrown aside and into battle he went. Thanks for watching Anthony.

    I might get you to send me some of that coal to put in my grandchildren’s Christmas Stockings lol. I wonder if the handle on theses shovels you find broke and instead of repairing them they just threw them away. I think you’ve found a lot of good finds. No wonder you went back to the site around 20 times HH. It is laden with WW2 treasures. Even though it can be tough work at times, you really seem to take great pleasure in metal detecting. It is a good thing you didn't fall backwards down the plateau. The Luftwaffe switch cover for a HE177 Greif cockpit was an amazing find and in great shape. Also, can't forget the 3 pieces of leather of a 1940 Walter P38 Pistol Holster. You could see the Luftwaffe symbol quite clearly. Thanks for the pic so we can see what it would like like in it's original form. Did you use sheep oil on it to keep it supple? Yes finding the magazine and live cartridges in a span of 3 yrs in the same area and then the holster brings things together. Wonder what happened to the soldier who carried that weapon? I bet one could go back there and still find more valuable treasures. Thank you HH, continue to stay safe please.

    Inside the holster there are signs of rust, I think someone found this before you, ripped the holster apart and just took the pistol. It would explain why the holster parts were scattered but close.

    Funny thing is, the pistol and holster we had when I was with the Bundeswehr were pretty much the same. In fact they were identical, except for all those stamps, Reichsadler and Waffenamt numbers. That was about 40 years after WW II and we still used the same pistol and machine gun. Quality never goes out of style. :)

    If you can treat that leather you can probably be able to have it stitched back to its original condition... very nice find. I usually dont mess with pieces but when its all there just seperated, its worth the try

    Wow, I thought the silver box was a cigarillo box at first, maybe too narrow for normal cigarettes. The holster find was amazing.............. its not just the fact its an item, and also its historical in what its purpose was for, made for the war, but to me its even more incredible that at some point in time, a baby was born who grew up to be a man who went to war, and carried that holster and weapon. What happened to him? Did he survive? etc etc........ those relics, especially the personal ones such as clothing and holsters, cups and plates etc have even more symbolic interest to me.
    That may be a bit deep, but thats what history feels like to me. I love watching these videos exactly for that purpose.
    have a great next adventure.
