Producer Charles King (CEO of MACRO) and Director of Judas and the Black Messiah #ShakaKing discuss the movie and it's impact before the films premiere.
Judas and the Black Messiah is in theaters and streaming on HBO Max February 12th! #BlackHistoryMonth #SummersFinestFilmFestival #JudasAndTheBlackMessiah
Inspired by true events, “Judas and the Black Messiah” is directed by Shaka King, marking his studio feature film directorial debut. The project originated with King and his writing partner, Will Berson, who co-wrote the screenplay, and Kenny Lucas & Keith Lucas, who co-wrote the story with Berson & King. King, who has a long relationship with filmmaker Ryan Coogler (“Fruitvale Station”), pitched the film to Coogler and Charles D. King (“Just Mercy,” “Fences”), who are producing the film with Shaka King. The executive producers are Sev Ohanian, Zinzi Coogler, Kim Roth, Poppy Hanks, Ravi Mehta, Jeff Skoll, Anikah McLaren, Aaron L. Gilbert, Jason Cloth, Ted Gidlow, and Niija Kuykendall.
“Judas and the Black Messiah” stars Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya (“Get Out,” “Widows,” “Black Panther”) as Fred Hampton and LaKeith Stanfield (“Atlanta,” “The Girl in the Spider’s Web”) as William O’Neal. The film also stars Jesse Plemons (“Vice,” “Game Night,” “The Post”), Dominique Fishback (“The Hate U Give,” “The Deuce”), Ashton Sanders (“The Equalizer 2,” “Moonlight”) and Martin Sheen (“The Departed,” TV’s “The West Wing,” TV’s “Grace & Frankie”).

I love Shaka King’s work. I’ve kept Newlyweeds in rotation for the past 5-6 years. I’ve been patiently waiting for more. So pleased to see his art on the screen again.

Shaka King/Charles King and the Wondeful Versatile Actors did an Amazing job. I would like to point out that Dominique (Judy Harmon) Thorne was that Soldier that Every Movement needs. She was fearless, Compassionate and she handled her weapon better than some men. Please add her to the interviews...

Great interview. But putting Fred Hampton and Barack Obama in the same sentence is a huge insult to Fred Hampton and suggests you really didn't get Chairman Fred's politics. Even if you never studied Hampton and the BPP, it was right there in the first scene when Fred is critical of putting Black names and faces on things to pacify Black people.

The *first all 'blk' film making group* to possibly get an Oscar? That...is..just...sad. And speaks volumes as to how far this country has *NOT* stepped out of *ITS* comfort zone. Congratulations gentlemen: even if you do not with the statuette you will make a mark within the historical narrative non the less.

Since there is information that you couldnt put in the movie due to time etc, think about creating a study guide or booklet to guide students and others.

I wish Bob Lee before he passed blessed the set as well. Bob Lee was a very important peace to the Chicago chapter as far as recruiting and was very instrumental in helping form the rainbow coalition. He worked very closely with chairman Fred, but I get it, everything can't be put in a two hour film. And Please don't put Barack Obama and fred hampton in the same category.

I'm sorry Daniel looks nothing like chairman Fred, but congrats to the brothers and thank you for at least bringing this icon to a new audience hoping people will research further.
