Shaka King been saying he don't give a F' about awards. Love him.
@@thekey3033 I think he should go if this movie gets nominated
Never been a fan of awards it helps new directors and upcoming actors along the way
The only reason the Oscars matter is to get people to watch difficult material they wouldn't normally. Like Kaluuya said in an interview, "it's a way of selling sad movies to people". 😂
He shouldn’t be concerned, or looking for the validation of man, Man gives Awards, but God gives Us Rewards that the greatest gifts . 🙏🏾
Love hearing voices like his. So true to himself and proud of his culture.
It's inspirational
When he called out Hollywood for being just as racist as the rest of this country, I new he was the right brotha to make this film. I just love it when we get to tell our own history!
Not to add clownery to the conversation, but now that tyler perry has cashed in on chittlin circuit plays and has a huge studio it would be great of him to RESEARCH and start making more impactful black stories. Wishful thinking
Won’t ever happen he even said it
Pause.....that is not his ministry. That clownery has provided cash that has supported plenty of our communities. That clowning sheds light and helps to make the plight of universal dysfunction not as heavy and celebrates the funniest things about many folk's family heroes. He has made his impact ten times over including employing African American actors, funding HBCUs, buying groceries and holiday gifts, and paying for funerals for African Americans when Go Fund Me does not adequately cover burial costs.

BRILLIANT!!!!
So proud of him for giving us this classic... I know some people online were talking a lot of bull cause they didn't know his name or work. He's a name now!
Wasn't surprised to find out he was a student of Spike Lee's at NYU.
Hopefully more to come😊
Rest in power too fred Hampton
I AM A REVOLUTIONARY!!!
We are unfortunately weaponized against each other and against ourselves
Divide and conquer is always the agenda of power. Sadly we Americans seem all too willing to comply - rather than see our commonality.
Sadly, this is too true. And true liberation is awakening to that...
This happens so easily because most of us don't know we are at war.
Great thoughts.
Because they know our weaknesses is self preservation and as a group we struggle with thinking on one accord.
We don’t need white validation👏🏿👍🏿✊🏿

Appreciate Charlemagne for making sure Yee’s question was answered. People often talk over, or ignore her. She’s usually the most prepared & does the most background research.
Black people saved hollywood but they hide that fact. In the late 60's hollywood went bankrupt. It was the black films of the 70's that saved them. The 10 year run we had in the box offices made them the money they needed to bail themselves out. And that's why, If you notice, towards the end of the 70's you started to see big budget films like Star wars, Indiana Jones, Close encounters with the third kind, etc.. And of course they didn't need us after that, and this is why you didn't really see anymore black films. That was the thanks we got, and look how they degraded us in film since...
Saving America is the role of Black Americans.
@@fitawrarifitness6842 - we built this country.
Great observation which is reflected in your name.
Great observation but it is the same repetitive formula in all walks of black history..this is embedded in who the white man is. We know that now better than any race it is time to change that
@@suzygirl1843 - Black folk back then just saw an opportunity to make movies & earn money to better themselves and family. Coming out of the 60's, who could have ever known the truth then. However, I am glad it happened because now we have Classic films like Superfly, Let's Do it Again, Cooley High, many others. ✌
I remember when people used to get on Envy and Charlamagne for cutting Yee off now its her cutting them off every 5 minutes 🙄
I was waiting for someone else to say this. She has some great logical points, and sometimes Charlemagne tends always cuts her with a DJ Envy and Charlemagne gay joke smh
she realized that thats the only way she can get a word in. otherwise they wont let her speak
@@ironmandingo1 4:23 is perfect example. I understand the need to gather all the information they can in the short amount of time they have it’s just disrespectful to cut anyone off!
I don't see it envy still interrupts her but never CTG
I just think she's trying to be remain relevant. Some of her questions are repetitive. Not really thought provoking.. DJ Envy ain't doing podcast CTG is way more interesting than Yee.. Now she interrupting the guest. Smh. She can only talk about sex..
Wake up and learn your true roots with your history because we come from a strong one‼️
You can't spoil a movie that's based on actual events. Pick up a book and learn about history.
Right!
True but most of these stories are put in cinematic form which is “Based” on real events. So if you are the type of person who just likes the art of cinematography and direction of storytelling it can definitely be spoiled in that sense
And this story should not be told by some one who is not from the USA
Yes Sir
The William O'Neill character show how one indifference can be manipulated to one's self destruction!!!
Ppl forget how young General Fred Hampton was.....
I agree, I feel the movie missed that point.. I think it would have hit a lil different if they showed, that Fred, Deborah and William O'Neal were teens/young adults.. not grown folk as the movie makes you believe they are..
"Forget" implies that they all knew to begin with. The issue is that his story isn't widely known. So I believe that majority of people simply didn't know he died at 21. The problem is, I think with our generation, ignorance is willful and people don't want to learn more about our leaders from the past.
People shouldnt sit around and wait for these shows and movies. READ. Its still the same fight. Google the Panthers book list and read that shit
Exactly...
Yup. Not nearly enough of people are heeding the words of Fred Hampton:
"If you ever think about me, and you ain't gonna do no revolutionary act, forget about me. I don't want myself on your mind if you're not going to work for the people." -Chairman Fred Hampton
A good book that shows the what the black panthers did is called black against empire.
"Proper-ganda.." I love it, I cant wait to watch it tonight..Much Respect, Salute.
Why does Angela keep cutting of Charlamagne? She’s unprofessional.
She gets on my nerves with that. She does that all the time. She knows they are going to allow her to finish.
Seriously this made me mad.
They all cut each other off , I’ve watched hella interviews and I remember Angela gets cuts off more than them. I’m sure they just all have questions they want to get out at the same time.
@@tangie7294 noo she doesn’t, they cut her off, so it’s just a little get back. I’m glad she was doing, they’re typically rude and inconsiderate of her anyway.
Because they're working from home it is a delay 🤦🏾♂️
They never taught about Malcom X when I was going to school in Jersey and they have a whole city/high school (Newark) named after him
Doesn't surprise me...we have to teach ourselves about our history and not the "white-washed" history.
I lived in the south and surprisingly they taught us about malcolm x
Why do black people expect other people to teach our kids our history? Who is supposed to know our history better than US?!
@@sparklesp9304 This is sooooo true, as the adults in our children’s live we’re responsible to teach them our history, we’ve dropped the ball, only to teach them to imitate, simulate, those who don’t care.

Respect how Shaka answered the question about the awards and accolades and how he unapologetically answered, "No" in how he doesn't care about their approval.
I usually don't listen to the breakfast club but I'm here for this. I watched the interview with Daniel but I wanted to hear the interview with Shaka King. I subscribed to HBO Max just to see this movie...It was sooooo good. Even though I knew the outcome, I agree with Charlamagne, I was screaming for Fred to get up. I laughed, felt pride and was hopeful, and cried like a baby at the end. It's a tragic story that I'm glad finally was told. I hope this movie is soooo successful that more of our buried stories hit the screen.

Just bought my ticket to go see this on Sunday! Haven't watched a movie in a theater since this time last year and am excited that my first film of 2021 will be supporting a movie with Black creatives behind and in front of the camera. :-)
Why go to a movie theater when you can save that money and watch it in the comfort of your own home without running the risk of getting sick 🤦🏾♂️
@@donnelmoss757 Thanks for your concern, but I'll be fine. I can't live my life worried and I put my trust in someone bigger. Plus, I'm supporting a local business and I want to treat myself to something nice, dress up, get out the house and have a nice meal with a movie. And of course I'll be safe, have my hand sanitizer, wipes and practice social distancing. 😉
I was right there with the director in his line of thinking: let this be an opportunity to truly tell the story in a series format.
This guy is the man. Judas and the Black Messiah was so raw and masterful, very excited for his next project

Dope interview
This was a great interview.
Ive been a fan of Shaka’s work ever since Newlyweeds, and I met Brother King when he was in Los Angeles at a music show, in which we were both mutual friends with the performer, and I was so happy to have told him how much of an inspiration he was to me as an aspiring filmmaker, and he looked me right in the eyes and said “Thank you, brother.”
I felt extremely elated and I was so honored to just have a conversation with him about Fred and what his intention was with this film, and I knew even then he was destined to do amazing work. And now it shows, so thank you Shaka! 🙏🏾 🙏🏾🖤🖤
Thank you 🙏🏽
Really good interview.
This is a great interview. SN: Yee always over talking her Co-host. It’s really annoying.
Yee is trash on the BC
They do the same to her as well. I noticed they cut her off or overtalk her during rumor report. They can all do better, honestly. A show of that magnitude should have better production or presentation of their hosts (timing, pace, preparation, etc.). That said, I'm trying to extend grace for the lag in time, Zoom and audio, tech glitches in a pandemic world! 😂
This is an incredible interview and powerful to watch after seeing the film
And Angela needs to stop interrupting and cutting everybody off with her questions
Last thing...I got a therapy session from the conversation about the culture shock entering white spaces at a later stage. He really touched on something that affected me deeply
White hollywood just love telling white savior movies, never tell stories like these👍👍👍. Can't wait to watch this, black panther story is one of those history period that should've been turn in a movie a LONG time ago.
