    Thank you for sharing! This is a really important topic and one where I think most people are just left alone to figure things out for themselves. When you apply for highly competitive places, the odds are always stacked against you. If you have a track record of being a high achiever and surround yourself with high achieving, ambitious people, then it makes any failure you experience even more painful. They say comparison is the enemy of happiness and in an internet culture where achievements are screamed out all the time, it makes failures even more embarrassing and shameful. Would be very interested to watch any future videos where you address the whole 'comparisons aren't healthy' topic. Thanks again!

      Karthik, amazing comment my man. I especially love "Comparison is the enemy of happiness", especially when surrounded with other highly ambitious, successful people. I find that totally true, and try my best to use the opposite comparison to remind me of all the things I should feel good about (e.g. having a healthy family, place to sleep, food, and more personal things as well)
      Rohit and I will definitely make more videos on similar topics, especially as it relates to academic, career, and entrepreneurship things.

    Failure, to me, is being so fearful/intimidated of rejection that you never try. You put your heart and soul into this, and that's what really matters, even if it doesn't feel so, right now!

    Thanks for sharing. I also got rejected by a firm that I wanted to be at so badly and had to share that with all my friends/family who helped me to get to that stage. I really hope your waitlist comes through, wishing you and Rohit all the best :)

      I'm sorry to hear that Mark, but we appreciate you sharing with us. Definitely helps me to know that others are going through the same (even though I wish you weren't). Best of luck with future recruiting, and keep us posted (regardless of success or failure)!

    Neel!! I love your videos, I am preparing for a Bain mba intern interview and you've been super helpful! I am rooting for you and hopefully you got out of the waitlist and were offered a spot or found your place in the new scholarship. Either way as you said the value of process is there!!

    Just watched this video again but from beginning to end and rewinded a few times in the part where you mentioned about having spent ~10 hours a weekened writing, editing and reviewing the essays yourself plus trying to get help from others for all those 4 to 5 months I think (I was trying to have the video in the background while skiming through the case book resourses from one of the video related descriptions, been having concentration problems), really well done with the effort! Sorry if that comes across as patronising or anything like that but I mean well.
    I got the impression that you came across as having/going through traits/feelings of bereavements essentially. I'm sorry man. It's something which resonated with me from the years before/during/as feelings of burnout took over my life. I'm proud of you. The way you put together the links to the consulting related business school case books is also something which resonated with me. Well done man.
    You can't really win so to speak I feel - boosting your chances at things you believe in means can mean doing your best but doing your best may mean making sacrifices for things which might or might not work out. I feel that in this situation it's better that you tried your best so to speak. If you get called up from the waiting list with some good news than fair enough if not then you did best. I get the impression that the waiting list could be described as the most sensitive application related situation here in the sense that you could be described as being the worst of both world's - having made the sacrifices of a winning application with the lack of approval of an offer you know. So close but yet so far so to speak you know. I'm proud of you!
    It could be sensitive time for you I guess and I'm sorry Neel. If nothing else then at least it could also act as an informal test to see who still believes in you without a big fancy name scholarship to your name. I don't want to jinx things or anything but I get the impression that the younger bro/your college/university/undergrad room mate I think? (the start up guy - sorry trying to avoid mentioning someone else by name, mentioning people by name seems to have become a sensitive subject for me over the years but I mean well and yeah) still believes in you so fingers crossed!
    Really, really, really well done with the effort. In case it helps, from my point of view at least you shouldn't feel the need to feel worried about feeling ashamed towards/about facing people with the waiting list related news - the reaching out to people was done with good intentions, respect and authenticity I feel, You appreciated people and stuff like that. I feel that it's better for you to have tried your best and things not having worked out because you can walk away so to speak knowing that you've tried your best you know.
    Well done! Appreciate the effort behind the video work as well Neel!
    Raza =)

    I got rejected for final round of Bain for ACI and it does sting a lot. However, I’m trying to go over my interview, write it down, and find places I can improve so I can apply for full time next year.

    Thank you so much for all your videos, Rohit and Neel! I have been using your videos to case prep for the past 3 months working on close to 20 cases. I believe I improved quite a lot as an interviewee (altho my math and decision making is still slow at times). However, I blanked out in the BCG potential test, made a mistake, and was not able to secure further interviews. Really appreciate how honest you are in this video and hope to put your advice to use.
    I think #1 is especially important because it reminds us not to worry about outcomes that are beyond our control. At the same time it's a good reminder that the only thing we really control and the only thing that really defines us is our decisions in life.

    Interesting story Neel, thanks for sharing. I’m curious, what were your plans had you gotten the scholarship? What were you planning on doing afterwards? And what are your plans for the near future (couple of years) now?

    • @neelandrohit6490
      @neelandrohit6490  3 роки тому

      Appreciate you watching Joeblo!
      If I got the scholarship, I'd leave Bain (which would be right after the completion of my 2nd year) to do it - and would have made sure, as best as I could have, that the door to return if I wanted to was open.
      Afterward, my preliminary plan (although I would guarantee it would've changed based on experiences I had / people I met, etc.) would have been to either find an ops or strategy position at a sustainable food company (like a Beyond Meat or Impossible Foods) that's trying to break into the Chinese market. OR, see if I could land an analyst position at a Chinese Food-focused VC called Bits X Bytes.
      Currently, I'm applying to another very similar and potentially even better fit scholarship called the Yenching Scholarship. I actually have an interview for that soon, so my near future will depend on if I get that or not given that it's a 2 year Master's Program in China.
      Otherwise, stay at Bain for a third year, do an externship (a 6-month internship that Bain lets you do during your 3rd year as an analyst) at a sustainable food company, and apply for these China-based scholarships again.
      Curious to hear your thoughts on all this

    Thanks for sharing, Neel. My suggestion for you would be to reach out to the scholarship folks and ask them what else you can do to strengthen your application to get off the waitlist! Fingers crossed for you!

    • @neelandrohit6490
      @neelandrohit6490  3 роки тому

      Ishtiaq, great idea! Unfortunately, they've made it clear that to get off the waitlist, other people would probably need to decline the scholarship (which, as you could imagine, won't be likely to happen).
      But one thing I maybe should do is ask them what I could've done better - we shall see!
