My mom, who would have turned 99 this year, would not take me to the doctor when we had cold symptoms. She said all they want to do is give you an antibiotic and if you take antibiotics for something like a cold then when you really need it for something serious, it won’t work! She also said we needed get over things on our own to build immunity.
That was the 'common' knowledge back before Penicillin became the hot thing in the '50s!!
@@dpeter6396 the common knowledge… on something that didn’t exist yet? Or just that people didn’t run to the doctor for a cold?
No.... Geez. Common knowledge that the problem would go away.....@@kerrytopel9835
What about when you have a horrid cough and wheezing with a sinus infection?
I love using oregano oil nasal spray. I never go to the doctor outside of my annual physical. I'm not on any drugs and I'm 67 and healthier than anyone I know of any age.
There’s a 95-97% chance I’m going to follow Dr. B’s advise.

There's a 3-5% chance that you're wrong.
Israeli doctors in the 1980s discovered that the rhinovirus dies when heated to 102°. To eliminate a viral sinus infection break out your hair dryer put it under your nose and breathe the warm air for like 5 to 10 minutes as long as you feel it's necessary and do this a couple of times during the day. I have told friends about this and use it on myself and within a few hours maybe 10 hours or less you will notice that your nose clears up, it's not running anymore, that's because the hot air from the hair dryer has killed the virus that's in your nose. The nose is running because the body is trying to flush the virus out. This is real, it always works and that's the truth. Dr Berry is the best but I wanted him to know about this.
Thanks for the reminder. I saw a video on this during the height of ovid.

What timing! My fever broke at 6:30 this morning, and I feel good after only two days of what seemed sinus-y. Here is what I did: Let my fever do its job; took a couple of very hot, longish showers to loosen things up and help blow and cough it out; used a eucalyptus shower spray; ate very little; drank hot unsweetened elderberry and echinacea teas with lemon; garbled with warm salt water; sucked on zinc lozenges; asked for prayer; and RESTED! Don't know for sure if everything helped, but it didn't hurt🤗
Salt water gargles/zinc lozenges/steamy hot wash cloth over impacted sinuses/ heavy doses Vit C..yep! Never lasts that long. Have fewer in Tx than in Utah..(?)
I also heard 50% each of peroxide and water gargled helps
Add some peppermint to that elderberry tea!
Thanks, I have some fresh mint, I’ll brew that this morning as well as take the hot showers and rest etc. I’m taking a bus and then flying south in three days and have to get it together!!
Amen to this! I’ve dealt with people demanding antibiotics over the years working as a nurse in an emergency room and in the outpatient setting. It’s time we all take responsibility for anti microbial stewardship.

Thank you! Someone finally telling it straight up about sinus infections.
I had a sinus infection a year ago. I tried every natural remedy but nothing worked. After 3 months I got a doctors appointment and was told it was a bacterial sinus infection that had spread. I had infection in my ears, throat and chest and bronchitis. I have never felt so unwell. 2 courses of antibiotics fixed it. I hate taking medication and always prefer natural remedies but in this case I’d had enough of feeling so sick.
This has happened to me numerous times, now I take AHCC by “ quality of life “ the soft gels NOT the capsules no more issues
What is ahcc?

@@kathyharmon2093 what is AHCC ?
AHCC, what is this?
I’m sorry, but either you have not experienced it, or prefer not to bring it up for some other reason, but you’ve not mentioned the one thing that has helped life-long (and in 73 years, I’ve had a lot of head colds and sinus infections) and even today.
This time-honored method is the Steam Tent. Find your biggest mixing bowl and a large (but not thick or cumbersome) towel. It must be almost bath sized to cover head and neck. Then you need an old fashioned kettle full of water. Boil the water. If you have no kettle, use a large pot. Pour enough to fill your mixing bowl about 2” short of the rim. Carry the bowl to your kitchen table; the towel should be already spread out on the back of the chair. A second towel set under the bowl would not come amiss.
Make sure any pets or small children are out of the way for 15-20 minutes-scalding water is potentially risky! By “out of the way”, I mean baby in crib, toddler in play pen, dogs or other pets in another room, ideally another adult to supervise.
Pull the towel over your head. Center your face over the water. Tuck towel under chin so neck skin won’t get too hot. Now this is important: hold the towel open a little at first, to let in some cooler air, until you get used to breathing steam. It will be hot, maybe even painful to breathe at first. Breathe in through your nose, and back out also through your nose. Alternate with breathing in through open mouth, deep into chest. As air cools down, close the towel and breathe the steamy air slowly and deeply in and out. It’s peaceful-like a meditation.
After 15 minutes you will have the most benefit and can stop. Push your damp hair away from your face, dry your face with the towel. Your eyelids will probably be a little red and tender. This will pass. Carefully get up, steady yourself, and dump the still-very-hot water in the sink. Phew!
The steam shrinks swollen nasal passages. You might need to blow your nose a lot afterwards, or even during. It should help a lot with clearing your head. If one side is stopped up, breathe through the side that works. Very good to do in the morning if your sinuses are aching. Also very good before bed. It can stimulate a real cleanout, so have plenty of tissues handy.
My great-grandmother, grandmother, and mother used it on me at a VERY young age. It was frightening. But once a child is old and self-controlled enough to cooperate, it can be used on children, but only under strict supervision, and only for 5-10 minutes.
One of the most soothing and comforting things to do in case of sickness. NOT FOR CHAOTIC HOUSEHOLDS. In must be done very controlled.
Set a timer for 15-20 minutes. Sit down and pull your chair close.
In December 2023, I had Covid for the first time. My doctor prescribed a lot of medications but I never took them. It manifested first as a sore throat, then a severe sinus infection-symptoms lasted 2 weeks. In that time I used the steam tent 8 times, and that’s what ultimately defeated the sinus infection. I should have done it every day but I was just so weak and exhausted. It was really enough.
This practice was forced on me by my mother, it never helped and turned me into a raging claustrophobe 😂
I use a hot shower over my head, it works a lot the same way. Yes, it works! Thank you for sharing😊
You can also do this in a sauna I bought one on Amazon for $120 . Really helps
You're right about fasting. I had a sinus infection that wouldn't clear up, and I fasted for five days and finally recovered.
Fasting is the best cure for any ailment.
Your not hungry for a reason.
Obviously cutting out all carbs and sugar when sick
There is a theory that what we're told are viruses are actually exosomes, a natural part of our body's process when detoxing. So fasting helping would fit with that theory, as you're not adding anything else for your body to either process (digest) or filter.
@@w1975b ya... terrain theory... I personally do not believe in viruse... but Fungus and Bacteria yes.
And we do get "sick" as part of a detox process, usually around seasonal chamges... just like animals may loose their fur coat.

I had it so bad. I didn’t end up taking any antibiotics. I did use steam with 3% food grade hydrogen peroxide, drank lots water, made chicken soup. Took advil for pain. Mine was 2.5 weeks of misery but I survived 😅
You're lucky. Sounds like it was viral. I get it so bad when it takes me out that I can't ingest any food or walk. I just throw up & crawl around or stand for 1 minute intervals while trying to make my kids cereal or something until I can get meds if I try ride mine out. Mine gets better after like 2 doses of antibiotics & I can function again. I must have crappy immune. I have 5 kids & trying to breastfeed & manage a household while not holding anything down or being able to walk is not an option for me. I know each time when I get it bad that if I do not get meds I will end up with sepsis or meningitis. I have changed a lot of thing in my life like the clothes wash I use, soap instead of perfumed body wash, antihistamines always at certain times of yr & it is not as chronic. I only need help a couple of times a yr now.

Who recognizes this: After a few days of eating some off-plan food during the holidays I suddenly had a drippy nose. It's not hard to figure out the cause and effect, often times. It only lasted an hour or so, luckily, but still. In my earlier years this was bound to develop into a serious sinus infection or worse, which I haven't had since the start of following a low carb diet.

I used to have chronic sinus infections. Two a year, one in the spring and one in the fall. Turned out I was living in a house with a mold problem. Even after moving out I was still getting them. Began using Afrin and sinus irrigation with warm salt water using a big syringe. Stopped having sinus infections but I became dependent on the Afrin for years. Finally kicked my addiction to that and now haven't had a sinus infection for about 10 years. The key for me seemed to be keeping the the sinuses open and cleaned out. Just be careful how you do it.
Almost exactly the same story for me. House with mold. Even after moving out the chronic sinus infections persisted. I stopped Afrin cold turkey and suffered a couple weeks but returned to normal. I have been using a Netti pot daily and now get sinus infections maybe once every four years.
Afrin is so addictive!
Never use it on both nostrils at the same time, one nostril for 3 days and if necessary, switch to the other nostril for no more than 3 days. I went over the addiction by using it only on one nostril for a couple of weeks.
I hated taking Afrin. Bleh! I switched to Simply Saline and I can deal with simply saline much better but I don't use it a lot. I'd rather use my vaporizer with only water..
I agree Afrin Burns bad!
YES. I use Vick's Simply Saline every day and have avoided the dreaded quarterly sinus infections! @@lisaruiz6799
Thank you!! I have told a few family members that antibiotics will not typically work for a sinus infection. They argue with me like crazy. Thank you for helping me realize that I was correct.
Thanks for covering this, Dr. Berry!
Since a debilitating adverse reaction to fluoroquinolone antibiotics 12 years ago, my go-to is oregano oil capsules, Olive leaf extract capsules, and sometimes echinacea and goldenseal, and flushing with a neti pot. Helps EVERY time I have any sinus issues and/or swollen nodes in my neck.
I, too, won't use fluoroquinolones again. For me it was Levaquin, which had been prescribed for a sinus infection. It was like using an atom bomb to kill an ant. For me, I felt symptoms of psychosis by the 2nd pill. UGH.
I started taking Oregoresp and Olive leaf extract along with a digestive emzyme each night around 1 am when I wake up to urinate. My MD told me it works best 2 hours after and 2 hours before food to be used best by body. It changed my life. I also use a netti pot daily in winter or when I am around lots of people during a day.
Amen … my go to as well. Unfortunately, I am very prone to bacterial sinus infections but the oil of oregano drops as well as nasal spray plus olive leaf are all antiviral/antibiotic/ as well as anti fungal. Sometimes they fully take care of my frequent sinus infections by themselves. If I still develop a full blown bacterial infection, they continue helping and I continue taking them along with antibiotic. But having taken SO many antibiotics, my gut microbiome has been severely compromised. I always try my very best to avoid the antibiotics because of my severe reactions to the antibiotics if at all possible!
Love the brutal honesty here! I wish a lot more doctors would be like this.
I had constant sinus/face pain for over 10 years and took decongestants like smarties, when i was on a bad month i would get gum inflammation too, but dentist said theres no connection between mouth and nasal infections
🤷WTAF.
The 4/5th day I was carnivore I went to the junk draw for a pen and just stood staring at my pills. I turned to my hubby holding one of the many half taken packets and said "I haven't taken any of these" from that day forward he has supported me 100% in the WOLife, I will not go back to a life of pain, No more gum inflammation either, strange.
WTAF made me lol
This is why I love you Dr. you lay it on the line and don’t beat around the bush. Sick of the lies my doctor told me too!! You’re the best ❤
Coloidal silver saline nasal spray. Hourly.
I literary just got done with a major sinus and lung infection and you're exactly right. The three things that I needed most were rest, water, and electrolytes. You need the rest! Don't over exert yourself and you will lose a lot of water to mucus and whatever else your body does and my heart was working harder too so absolutely get some electrolytes; this helped a lot. Some sunlight and nice music or anything you can do to be as stress free as possible makes it more bearable and mind your posture because you'll notice it get harder to breathe with bad posture. Took me 4 days to get rid of it before a fever put the final nail in the coffin and spent a whole day spitting and blowing out mucus after it went away so I can suggest to continue to stay hydrated for a couple days after as well. Great video Dr. Ken Berry.

This was informative. Answered some questions I've had for years.
Funny you put this out when I'm dealing with sinus or what I thought was an infection. I've had bad ones over the years but not for a while now. I've hardly suffered from anything since going keto. But a week ago woke to intense pain in my sinus on the right side. Just as it has always been. Thing was there wasn't the swelling or nasal blockage as usual.
What I found was a muscle or nerve starting at the base of my neck and running up to the base of my skull on the right side very tight and very sore. It continued around the side above my ear to my temple where is was intensely sore there as well. A hot shower and plenty of massaging finally eased the pain. Continued care given to my neck in the form of taking it easy and taking care how I have slept on it has almost gotten it straightened out.
Pretty crazy. Absolutely the exact symptoms and pain of an infection but wasn't at all.
Thank you Lord for helping me figure that one out!
Thanks Dr. Berry. This is spot on my protocol for sinus infections. My family is always trying to get me to take over the counter junk that I believe simply masks symptoms and tricks people into thinking they don’t need the rest that will help in the healing.
I used to get chronic sinus infections. I have been eating a ketovore diet for 8 months and have not had any sinus infections.

Great video. I never experienced a sinus infection until last year. Now it's recurring. It would be great to hear about why some of us suffer with chronic sinus infections.
My first one did get better with antibiotics.
My doctor tried to get me to take Cymbalta, claiming it's not addictive. I thought of a sentence in your book ... "let the eye-rolling and walking-out begin". Keep up the great work, Dr. Berry!
I am so thankful to you Doctor. This video is so informative for me.🙏🙏🙏.

My first sign of a sinus infection is a sore throat, then the sinus congestion and pain. I immediately take olive leaf extract and colloidal silver in a little orange juice 2-3 times a day, and it's gone within 2 days. Must use high quality colloidal silver, at least 500ppm. Been doing this for many years, and no my skin is not blue!
Do you order the colloidal silver from Amazon? Any particular brand of olive leaf extract? TY.
Where do you purchase the colloidal silver & olive leaf extract? Thank you!
I agree with most of you say. But fungal sinusitis is a real thing. After years of suffering my spouse was finally better after Diflucan and Nystatin tx (both anti-fungals) for a month. After years of suffering, it finally was gone for good. The fungal infection was caused by a doctor who carelessly prescribed antibiotics. Not all docs are good like Dr. Ken Berry!
How was the fungal infection diagnosed as fungal please?
Was there nasal discharge or completely dry?
I know lots of people that get fungal sinus issues. We gargle with anti fungal essential oils and make sprays they work immediately. I fully agree on the antifungals. We have used them before and they were immediately as well like by the end of the day to the next day your symptoms are cut in half
@@treasuresabound0062 very easy, collect a fresh sample, (mucus sample) send it to a laboratory where it is examined for signs of fungi. Or if your doctor is in a hospital with a good microscope, take a look. There are also tests that take 48 hours to look for growth of the infection. With all viral and bacterial infections a simple test should be performed. Personally I don't agree 95% are viral. Many cases of strep throat (bacterial), then expand into a bacterial sinus infection. Herpes type infections (viral) of the mouth or throat lead to sinus infections which need to be treated with antiviral medications. Even an infected tooth, gums (very common), can lead to a sinus infection, which requires antibiotics.
I def think mine are fungal or bacterial in nature, I haven't had anything viral happen to me in years.
Love to see this. Very helpful especially for those who are clueless.
One other thing to do when you have a sinus problem is to stay away from dairy! Or minimize it! I'm surprised you didn't mention this.
My chiropractor showed us how to massage the sinus points at the brow line, at your eye teeth pockets beside your nose, pull down from the bottom of your ear and pull down along the jawline. It does help with the pressure.
lol
It's called lymphatic drainage. I do this before it gets to infection. You can get a massage like this for the entire body. Look for yt videos for lymphatic drainage. Most mornings I use this method to get it out of my head, add the tapping where collarbone meets sternum. Drink water.
Ignore the skeptics if it works and it works for for me. Don't forget how everyone laughs at carnivore.
Yes! That will mobilize the Eustachian tube to allow to drain! I have great results with a nasal saline spray with Alkolol- it’s a mucous surfactant. Has EO’s also.
@@stephaniecavnar5290do they carry that in most stores? What's the brand?
I needed this as I am a week or so in the midst of a sinus infection that stemmed from a cold. I have a deviated septum so I already get them more than those that don't. I suspect that being carnivore for the 40 (so far!) days is lessening the severity of it though.
Excellent. The saline solution gave me some relief. Great advise!
Dr Berry - Just had a sinus infection I believe as I did not go to the doctor. Fever 3 days of 103 then green stuff and coughing for more than a week! I’m finally starting feeling better! Thank you for your insight. You are awesome and I’m so grateful for your guidance! God bless
Thank you, Dr. Berry! If one gets weird pain or swelling of sinuses, that is when you go to the doctor. Otherwise, rest, sip, and watch Dr. Berry videos! :)
You read my mind Ken! I have been struggling with a sinus infection since the beginning of November. I was doing my sinus rinses and just trying to wait it out. I gave in and took an old Rx I had for previous sinus infections because my face and teeth were killing me. I am 7 days into my antibiotic and its helped worlds for the face/teeth pain, but the side effects aren't pleasant at all. I haven't had to take an antibiotic in 8 years, hate them!
We live in a world that has been groomed with a lack of patience and are oblivious to the fact the body defending itself has to run it's course. Thanks for all of your common sense videos. Keep up the great work!
Thanks, Doc - you are the best!💕

Dr. Berry, as a FM doc myself I've been recommending chicken soup and fasting to most of my uri and sinus payjents for the past year, finding the wisdom in our oral traditions (eg feed a fever, starve a cold). Glad to hear other docs, especially those more knowledgeable than I also supporting it.

Thank you Dr. Berry. I’m going through a sinus infection currently. Agree 100% on toughing it out. I found the sinus rinse each morning in a hot shower to help ease the symptoms and provide instant relief as my body fights the good fight. Eating right since November 2018 (thanks to you!!). 👍
100% agree! I got the second sinus infection in mylife spring of 2020, they prescribed me antibiotics and within 5 days I had C-Diff, I had to go through a round of another antibiotic to kill it ended up in the ER and then had to take another 14 days when that did not work. Thankfully I am a dietitian and love natural cures so did some potent probiotics, and some chinese medicine, Dr feels my method was what cured me, I almost died of C-Diff, antibiotics need to be used with caution!
I am very sad you got ill in spring of 2020. It was really hard to get care. I asperated water. Yes I wound up with c.dif eventually . But in 2020 I had 5 antibiotics at the same time. Still wound up with lung issues.

💯 truth. I get them all the time. I use the extra strength saline sprays and the savage. This loosens the mucus and allows me to expel it. The rest just comes with patience, and letting it run its course. The key is getting as much of the mucus out as possible.
Thank you Dr Berry
Wishing you Neisha and family
Happy New year
Health and happiness in 2024
I used a neti pot once at the suggestion of a NP. It cleared my sinuses only to create the worst sore throat and tonsillar hypertrophy of my life. My husband and I are RN's (me BSN and him MSN) We want to thank you for the download on the proper human diet. I've been watching / listening to you and Neisha for years. I've lost 35 lbs since May this year. We've slacked over the holiday. However, we've put together a plan to get back on track now. I won't get into detail here but, you do know how hard it is keeping to a schedule when you're constantly flying by the seat of your health care professional pants. So, we are concentrating on the food itself; grass-fed and finished beef and pasture raised bacon from a very local E TN farm. We'll deal with the time issues as we go. A tide-us-over anytime of day cup of homemade broth from said meat will be added to our daily intake for those critical care getting our butts kicked events.
Thanks Doc! I need this as I’ve been sick with sinus infection for a week now. I went to my doctor but he said I didn’t need any prescription. He only gave me notes on what to do at home.
Dr B, what of those who get serious headaches as part of the symptoms of sinus infection. What would you recommend?
My chiropractor changed my life by treating my sinus every two weeks for several months. Hardly ever get sinus unless it's a cold. Also chopped garlic in a small amount of hot water when pieces fall to bottom use water for nosedrops. Does not completely cure but loosens and provides some relief. Would then rub forehead and around nose with Vicks or Ben gay cover face with hand towel to fall asleep and most of the time gone when I woke up. But my chiropractor was the best❤❤
To open nasal passages when laying down, so you can sleep...take few drops of the following essential oils mixed in a carrier oil.... olive oil works too. 2 drops peppermint essential oil, 3 drops Rosemary essential oil, 1-2 drops Lavender essential oil. Apply across bridge of your nose and around nostril opening, or on pillow case . Lavender and peppermint help with reducing inflammation of nasal passages....it works for me.
THANKS SO MUCH!! Great info.
Happy New Year Dr, and family 🎉🎉🎉
I make a powder snuff out of cayenne, Golden seal, and Barberry and just a minute few grains in the end of a swap snorted up the nose and it is instant relief from the headache, and begins to greatly help with nasal airflow. Yes it is quite intense but it goes away quickly and gets easier to adjust the amount up a little or down so you aren't quite so surprised when you use it a second time. The cayenne is a dialator and Antihistamine, the Barberry acts as an anti-viral and the golden seal is a neutralizer of toxins. If you have a sinus headache Just a few grains in the end of a swab the size of 2 or 3 periods from an ink pen will instantly give relief. Repeat as needed to give you the relief sought for. I also use it when I feel the first symptoms of a virus colonizing on the back of my palate and and sinus. If you can catch it early you can mitigate the progression the infection to an appreciable degree.
Excellent remedy!
@@susangilbert1392 Thanks. Cayenne or capsaicin can stop a heart attack if administered under the tongue releasing nitric oxide and other vasodilator compounds. It also can be used to increase blood flow to help support kidney function and help with edema in the lower legs.
@@richardfliearman3381 sprinkling Cayenne on a cut will stop the bleeding. It can even stop the bleeding from an artery that is pumping and squirting blood out. I have seen it happen. It is one of the many herbal remedies I carry in my car's first aid kit
I typically take zicam as soon as I start feeling any cold symptoms coming on. I also will use antihistamines to dry up the drip and decongestants to relieve the pressure.
Very convincing, thanks for sharing it !
Good presentation 👍👍
Informative video ♥
I'm on day 33, no fever, not getting worse. Just a never ending headache and ear pressure.
Consider seasonal allergies.
Have you tried a home made hot lemon drink with raw garlic, ginger and honey. Also absolutely no dairy.
Funny. I used to get tonsil infections all the time in my 20s and I had to refuse antibiotics. They always tested for strep and it was NEVER strep. I basically put my foot down and said I wanted the strep results before I'd take them. Mind you, this was more my small contribution to limiting antibiotic resistant bacteria than because I was worried about the effect of the antibiotics on me.
I have one right now. Thanks for another great video Doc
Very interesting Dr.KenDBerry.. why is that I've had breathing problems my whole life but as soon as elimination of seed oils I now have never breath through my nose better before. I think I've had inflammation my whole life not eating the proper human diet. Can't tell you enough how amazing this feels to breathe so well.
Thank you...I have suffered with this for yrs.
I quit eating gluten ALL Grains and never got another sinus infection.
Terrain theory at play.
After suffering for years with sore throats and headaches because of sinuses I finally reached the age of 76 and all stopped. Amazing!
Thank you Doctors Berry.
Not until I began to work in a daycare setting did I ever get a sinus infection. I thought at first it was my allergies. Then I thought it was a cold. 9 MONTHS later I was so sick. I tasted it, smelled it and was so exhausted. So sick. Copious amounts of mucus was created and I could never clear it. It was a child’s father that told me I had an infection. Went to the dr and started antibiotics. 5 days later I was all better. Never found out what was the exact cause (virus? Bacteria?) I had an inkling as to what it was: the air in the center. The air was circulated from room to room. The ducts were never cleaned the whole time I worked there. I had several infections while I worked there (10 years) and since I left I haven’t had one and never want another one. It was horrible.
In the Military (when I was younger and prettier) the usual treatment for us was sticking our faces into a bowl of warm salt water and sucking through the nostrils, then spitting out the junk that came out. It loosened all of the mucus and sinus whatevers, and did it a few times. You can then blow your nose and get cleared up for a few hours of relief. A warm shower also helped--its like it melted all of that stuff out of there. This was before Dr. Oz and Oprah introduced us to the Neti pot. Just did it the 10 days or so before Christmas when I caught one.
How much salt-to-water ratio did you use? And how many times a day?
Please use distilled water to rinse your sinus, boiled tap water is toxic with fluoride, antibiotics, hormones, PFA and heavy metals
Wow! Thank you! Going through this right now! 😳
Thank you so much.. your information was very helpful
