Wonderful build, Jay et. al! Question: Having already laid out the position of the interior boards on the sides of the sleigh for positioning the barrel bolts, did you consider cutting grooves into the sides for those pieces to fit into so as to offer additional support? Would that have been too much work for a negligible return?
Was thinking along the same lines. But it looks like this has been built and is in use in a well visited park, maybe I am over thinking. If sturdy enough for that use, should work very well for studio, parade, or other work. Wondering if the seat and floor would benefit from tabs that go through and are flush with the exterior of the sides. Or will the barrel bolts suffice? Alternately, add a few more strategically placed cross 44"x5" supports, one under the seat and two under the floor, to help support and prevent sag when Santa jumps in.
Great job by everyone. It looks like a Dowelmax or something similar would be handy for drilling the holes for the barrel bolts. Were the steps knockdown too or do they stay assembled?
If you download the files for the project you can see that he has a outline for a sheet of plywood you should be able to get the dimensions from that. If you assume that a sheet of plywood is 4 ft by 8 ft.
I can’t seem to get the files to open do you have them on pdf or anything else so I can project the images on to the ply so I can draw round them cheers
We used Behr premium plus exterior paint in "100 mile an hour red", Rustoleum metallic gold, and top coated everything in a couple coats of Total Boat Halcyon clear. We did not seal the plywood before hand - It has held up perfectly!
Hi great vid I just got the zip but my chrome browser on my Mac won’t let me open it I can’t seem to Veiw it I’m not going to be cutting it is it because I’ve not got Vcarve
Does it take 4 or 5 sheets of plywood? I see on the files only 4 sheets being used and the 5th one is blank. Since plywood is $65 a sheet thought I’d double check 😂
I thought you were going to built it around the Harley!! Who needs reindeer if you have Harley power ? ;-) Just thought if it's an SVG/Vector file, I could shrink it down to hobby CNC size !!
Due to the bit being upcut or downcut and due to the good side up or down on the CNC machine. This allows you to use a downcut bit with the good side of the plywood facing up and have a good left and right with no tearout on a specific side.
@@JayBates thank you for the explanation I just couldn’t figure it out on my own. It turned out great. The explanation on the areas to drain was much appreciated too.
@@JayBates could you edit the model or use the model and to make is come in to pieces like the side with like little pegs that slide into place so it is easier for storage if you could do that that would be a lot nicer I am planning on doing this for my front yard but don’t have enough of a opening in the door to put in attic with out it in more pieces and could this be cut with a water jet because I have a friend with a water jet?
Beautiful But when you said CNC and Vector you lost me. I have no clue how to use any of that modern computer stuff. If I could find a drawing and trace that onto the wood I could cut it out. Ron USCG RET
Makers helping Makers...barter and trade...well done gents.
Absolutely Stunning!
Wish I could order one.
Ready cut out and just put together.
Well Done 👏
This build is amazing! So fun and festive, beautifully done!
Thanks! It was even finished with Halcyon Clear!
@@MadduxWoodworks It looks great!! Is this sleigh posted on IG?
@@TotalBoat it sure is!
Excellent build - I was following Brandon on his IG for this build - came out great - koodoo's to you all
Great plans! I modified mine for a set of rollers under the sleigh.
I hope you and your family have a Merry Christmas!!!
You and your fancy cnc! I’m still jelly.
Wonderful build, Jay et. al!

too thin? maybe add 2x2 nailers under each side of interior plywood seat /floor

Hi mate, really impressive. Ive just had mine cut and ready to build. What weight can it hold as im concerned by the legs possibly snapping?
Great job by everyone. It looks like a Dowelmax or something similar would be handy for drilling the holes for the barrel bolts. Were the steps knockdown too or do they stay assembled?
Very nice! If I had a CNC, I would build one for my yard... I like the construction.. sort of like Ikea on steroids'!
The window dressers at Macy's will be jealous.
What gold color brand did you use? Was it spray paint?
This looks amazing. Great build.
How wide were the seat and backrest?
Excellent VCarve info...
This is amazing!
I'm in Scotland and struggling to find anyone with a CNC to cut this for me. Looks like I'll have to hand draw and jigsaw it out.
That is a beautiful build...Merry Christmas
That came out amazing... Is there no support under the seat? will it support the weight on just the plywood?
Great job Jay!!! and to think, I created that svg in Adobe capture from an ornament jpg🤣 I really need to get my Maslow back up and running!
Wonderful thank you for your time , best wishes for nets 2021 Cicle, very apprecate all your tiem and teachings, God Bless you
I'm not showing this to my wife.
Why not make her happy, it REALLY could work out in your favor
I actually laughed out loud 😂
😂😂😂 I’m definitely showing this to my husband. 😂
She probably has seen it already 😂
Hi, I downloaded the files, but it only showed the sides of the sleigh. Do you have another link with the additional pieces? thanks.
Hey Jay, I know its been a few years but wondering what the dimensions of this sleigh were ?
If you download the files for the project you can see that he has a outline for a sheet of plywood you should be able to get the dimensions from that. If you assume that a sheet of plywood is 4 ft by 8 ft.
Merry Christmas !

Do you have the approximate size.......I would like to build one to use for photo shoots .
Hey Deborah, the approximate size is 7ish feet long and roughly 52” wide with the trim.
How much would this cost to have this made?
Thank you for sharing. This is exactly what I am looking for. What is the weight limit? Can you please send me your patterns ? Thanks for sharing.
I had help making this. Is there a trick to assembling with barrel nuts by myself?
Not that I know of. Careful alignment and install.
@ Thanks! It went together, real snug! The jig we bought helped and some fellow makers in VA!
There are some questions I have to ask what is the weight limit that this way can hold that's the most important thing I need to know
Your amazing jay bates!!
What specific paint did you use? Did you seal the ply wood first?
We used Behr premium plus exterior paint in "100 mile an hour red", Rustoleum metallic gold, and top coated everything in a couple coats of Total Boat Halcyon clear. We did not seal the plywood before hand - It has held up perfectly!
Great Job!!! Turned Out Awesome!!! 👏👍😎
Thanks for the files. The project looks great.
Fantastic build Jay! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
Do you have any idea what size the Barrel Bolts are and the best place to buy them in Bulk ...( There is a Bunch )
Hey Thomas! We used M8x100mm and we just order them off of Amazon.
Is there a PDF file for this ?
How much would you charge to do one? Or would you?

Great!!! Excelente trabajo!!! 🇨🇷
I can't open the file?
Looks great!
What is the reason to flip the image for the left and right sides of the sleigh?
Due to the bit being upcut or downcut and due to the good side up or down on the CNC machine. This allows you to use a downcut bit with the good side of the plywood facing up and have a good left and right with no tearout on a specific side.

Congrats on the weight loss, it shows on camera!
Would you build another and sell it.
Do you have these plans or pattern files in a jpg format or pdf?
Unfortunately, no.
