This gentleman speaks gold. More people need to get off cable (FOX, CNN, MSNBC and all that garbage) and start investing more time into youtube videos like this. We have a gold mine here, but very few of us take advantage of it. Imagine if half of the population watched videos like this and thought deeply about them, we would literally be in the White House by now running our own country and distributing our resources into our own communities. Slavery has never ended.

Professor Harvey. I think a study/analysis of class and race in an often forgotten American subculture, would provide interesting results. The subculture I'm referring to is the American Military "Brat." Specifically, the sons and daughters of the career full time enlisted service members, who were born military brats and stayed a brats until adulthood.

"Universal healthcare" is a term liberal (non-progressive centrist) politicians came up with so that they could refrain from committing to Medicare for All without sounding like they would do nothing. The Affordable Care Act was supposed to be "universal healthcare", it ended up not being so, but regardless it was designed to help health insurance companies.

Also there is a legal precedent around eggshell thin skull cases, which essentially says you take your victim ad you find him. The most important concession Harvey makes here is worth underscoring: 'the bringing together of race and class is the one thing the ruling class fears the most'. This is an insight that has long been underscored by African American activists and scholars, and recently by Michelle Alexander (2010) as well as by Keeanga-Yamahtta Taylor (2016). It is also an insight shared by Mike Davis (1986; 2020) and Max Elbaum (2020). I wish Harvey had realized this earlier -- living in Baltimore should have offered adequate time for this realization.
It seems to have taken Harvey a long time to underscore this insight -- it is hard to see this insight emerging anywhere in his works on reading Marx or reading anyone else for that matter. This insight that Harvey offers amounts to the claim that Class Politics is NOT a substitute for Race Politics. This is a welcome admission from a Marxist who has consistently privileged Class Politics over any other kind of politics, including of course Identity-based Race Politics. It may also be the reason why most people who are from Minority Groups do not read Harvey!
In this video Harvey comes closer to admitting the terrible uneven realities of living and dying in the US or in the UK (the exemplary sites of Neoliberal spaces). Living and dying are not activities that are equally distributed for everybody. All bodies are NOT the same! Their destinies are different insofar as they are racialized differently! Acknowledging this opens the way, does it not, for a deeper class politics itself!

I think your analysis of why Black Americans have underlying conditions should be adjusted. Thses conditions are due to constant stress and threat, living in food deserts, widespread **environmental racism**... You suggest increased access to healthcare like M4A as solution, but that is not a cure or solution. Lack of wealth in a capitalist society is the root cause of most Black health issues, since healthcare is distributed spatially by wealth in the USA.
Direct cash #Reparations to Black American Descendants of Slavery is the only RESPECTABLE way to address what is happening in the USA now. Yes, universal policies are needed but we need to save Black Americans from utter annihilation before we help everyone thrive. It's death here all day every day for Black people David, and it's seemingly inescapable. It always catches up.
Unless the Marxist revolution is going down tomorrow, we need to talk how to immediately resolve the deep racial injustice baked into this society, the same injustice currently killing Black people with Coronavirus neglect at disturbing rates.
You say you are for REPARATIONS, which makes me very happy! Please make a video directly addressing this please and give it your always refreshing lens. This is so important, and all people with platforms who don't oppose direct cash reparations need to vocally discuss this at this crucial moment for Black Americans. We need strong voices to lift this view up!
It is not enough to change the economy. You will never see Black American have lives economically equal to white Americans without addressing extreme racial wealth inequality.
Also, I don't think all white people are racist. I think it's best to discuss systemic racism in the US as White Supremacy to capture the concerns you touch on towards the end of your video. Interpersonal racism is certainly part of it, but white people shouldn't be automatically labeled racist just because they are white. I don't judge until someone has the opportunity to act in an anti-racist manner but decides not to...

These ideas work themselves out according with the necessary and difficult disagreements of government. They are problems solved even when there is no real solution to governing justly. Binary systems and their "winner take all" doesn't work. No party in a two party system renders the wisdom of Solomon. Notions of ideological purity don't work. Actions and the noise and friction of being angry and dissatisfied work. A Congress that sits on its precious ass and is satisfied is silent, and an idiot. Nothing less than proportional representation, a bull pit rather than a pulpit, makes a government -- and corporate money, its grand theft of "free speech", together make this impossible.

Racism is as large an issue as you make it. Continue to make distinctions in race, and people will always find differences to hate each other for. Sooner or later we have to accept that none of us chose our skin color, none of us chose our ancestors. I do not oppress or deride others of different race, and I refuse to be blamed for things I actively refuse to do, and call out when i see them. I am not guilty of crimes I did not commit. And as far as saying I am 'touched' by the hateful society, sure: That touch just fills me with revulsion, which is why i'm not fucking racist. All humans are equal, and nothing can sway that fact. I refuse to be the hate that embodies humanity, and thats the only path to a society that doesn't treat each other differently based on race: acknowledge that all humans are equally valuable regardless of color, creed, or sex. anything else will leave room for intolerance and hate.

Perhaps i'm the aberration, a white man in the south who sees the oppression of so many on the basis of what fundamentally boils down to arbitrary-defined differences in genes and melatonin production. The way you solve any irrationality is to expose it as such, and the only way you do that for the irrationality of racism in my view is by exposing just how little difference there truly is.

Human beings are mammals. Complex mammals with cultures. Multiculturalism does not work (nor does it usually exist for those who promote it). Unfortunately, due to its unique history, America has to deal with this somehow, and, thanks to neo-liberalism, these same issues are now reproducing everywhere. A cohesive culture can comfortably accommodate any number of countercultures, but what it can't accommodate is a multitude of cultures (with their own countercultures) within the same physical space. The only sure product of such a society is an unhappy, divided people who can only be partially held together by consumerism or catastrophe. And the more you grease the identity politics pole, the more various groups will vie for power until their group dominates. Demanding that people "be nice" will not change anything, but only infuriate people more. Maybe it's time to go for a walk rather than pulling down another book.
