I’ve owned all 3 of these guns, and the beretta is my favorite. It’s the perfect combination of compact and having enough weight to be a very accurate and shootable gun inside defense distances.

I agree, it’s a fantastic little piece. I found it was pretty darn accurate myself, one handed you can have accurate shots still. Perfect pocket gun

My first pocket pistol was the LCP 2 in 22lr. After awhile I wanted something a bit more powerful load. I found an LCP 2 in 380 with a Viridian Laser at a great price. I changed out the Trigger to a Galloway Precision which minimizes the take up. Then I swapped out the trigger springs, mag release springs, SS guide rod. All from MCARBO. Trigger pull is greatly reduced and the gun is much tighter in its operation. Less than $80 TOTAL!

Totally agree with your 3 choices. I have shot all 3 of these a lot, although for the .38 snubbie it's been either the Bodyguard Airweight or the 442 Centenial Airweight. My friend's Tomcat runs great now, but it took two trips back to the factory before it was reliable. All 3 are more accurate than you would think for a mouse gun if you practice, but I wouldn't hesitate to depend on any of these.

For a number of years I was a bicycle commuter. Rode through a couple of sketchy neighborhoods on my commute route. Looked at dozens of carry options. Settled on KT P32 and P11. The P32 for warm weather in a Remora sticky in the 6 position. The P11 was worn w/a Galco classic knockoff during cold weather under my outer layer.
Great video. Tried out all of your choices and loved them all. My wife did as well. Until she tried a used Seecamp .32. We bought it on the spot. A modified Remora sticky in 2 position. She's a lefty and prefers cross draw. Or a thigh holster for dress up. She, also wears the sticky in the 6 for certain modes of dress.
We both agreed the polymer 380s were just too snappy in general. Anything else in 380 weighed too much. Revolvers printed too much. Thank you for taking the time to make this video. Everything was clear and concise. Cheers.

Kahr is nice shooter but not what I call a "high value". I like my "pocket pistols" smaller though. I looked at a lot of options for summer/light dress carry and ankle holster. I decided on a Ruger LCPll. Super thin and light. Feels a little heavier than my phone. Never have had any problems with it. Paid $215 ~ 3 years ago.

My Kahr CW380, like your P380, is just awesome in every category. When it’s hot I can drop it in cargo shorts pocket; when it’s very cold I can put it in the pocket of a Carhartt coat, when I’d have trouble getting to my IWB P365XL. A DeSantis pocket Super Fly pocket holster and DeSantis spare mag holder in the opposite pocket completes the ensemble.

Nice picks! I love that tomcat, I'm thinking of getting one for myself soon. I carry a 642 performance center model and love it. It has a lasermax light up front and crimson trace laser grip and is super lightweight, I carry it religiously and feel well armed with it. I love that it has moonclips too, makes it easier when reloading. I like to carry it with 130gr hst on a moonclip (all come out together, no stragglers! Lol) and keep a speed strip with 130gr pdx1 that are easier to load into the cylinder for a reload (the hst aren't that easy, especially under stress). Ever since I picked up a Taurus PT-22 I feel in love with the tip up barrel and surprisingly great ergonomics of those little mouse guns, which is why I've been considering the tomcat (well actually I'd love to find a alleycat model with the night sight). Maybe Santa will get me one this year lol. Nice video 704.

I originally carried the Tomcat until I could afford the Seecamp .32. 😎
Then the Rohrbaugh 9mm R9 came out (about 2005) and that became my EDC for my pocket! I feel naked without it!
I haven’t found anything that hides in the pocket like the R9. It is discontinued but any of the other “plastic” guns just don’t work for me!
I have not been able to try the new nines out, like the 365,or Hellcat but they don’t appear to be as small as the Rohrbaugh!
I know that the R9 is expensive but for me it has been a great feeling to have it in the pocket for all these years and I shoot minute of pie plate out to as far as I need to for my defense needs!
I still try the Seecamp’s,.32 and.380 occasionally but go back to the 9mm in short time!

My RM380 is a 7+1 and I feel well protected with an extra mag. Hides anywhere on my body and it's not a bad round with good shot placement. Revolver like trigger and all my other daily carries are revolvers. I also have the Beretta 3032 in Inox but it makes me nervous to carry the higher dollar guns and worry about scratching it all up.

I also pocket carry daily for decades. I don't wear Jean's as a result. With Dockers or cargo pants/shorts you can easily conceal P365, Hellcat or PM/CM9 size guns and it disappears. I like the Vedder or Alabama Holster kydex pocket holsters but have also used a Galco Pocket Protector for years before kydex and P365 came out.
The Vedder with P365 is the best combination of comfort and capacity I've ever carried. I can easily pocket even the 12 round mag and draw smoothly and consistently, snag free and it disappears when standing. Prints a bit seated but doesn't profile the gun, just looks like you have something in the pocket.

I don't carry, or feel the need to carry, but when I had son hand guns that I took to the range as a hobby the only one that jammed was a browning ,380. I think that revolvers are the best way to go. We took a girl who was given a 25 by her dad to keep in her glove box. She missed a man target on her first shot and then it jammed. We had the gun smith clean it for her to free the action and then it worked ok. My Taurus 357 never jammed. I got rid of them after I moved and no longer went to the range with friends and coworkers.

I still have it in mine is extremely accurate and reliable for a 22... The next small pistol I purchased was a Beretta 950 BS Jetfire.25 . I carried this in a DeSantis.. leather pocket holster.. the next pocket pistol around 2003 I purchased a Kel-Tec p 32..1st gen .. mine is extremely reliable and accurate out to 50 ft.. I still carry this pocket pistol in a DeSantis Nemesis pocket holster when I'm wearing lightweight shorts..... My next pocket pistol was one that I constantly carry to this day about 90% of the time which is the Taurus TCP 380.. mine is drop Dead reliable and accurate out to 50 ft.. I never leave home without it... My next pocket pistol that I purchased recently is 11oz !! Smith 342 air light ti (titanium cylinder) centennial 38 special..(discontinued in the late 1990s) I can put this in my right front pocket and a DeSantis Superfly pocket holster with velcroed on flap to prevent printing

I like the Ruger LCP in .380 ACP..slip it into my pocket with a pocket holster and it doesn't feel like I'm carrying a pistol in my pocket. Double action only too it operates exactly like a double action revolver..the trigger pull on the first shot is rather stiff and long trigger travel but once you get used to it it's fine. Like those Beretta pistols too they appear to made very well.

picked up a Tomcat 3032 a couple months ago and ran 100 rounds of PMC thru it. Was fairly disappointed after having a half dozen double-feeds(failure to eject, really). Otherwise, super accurate. But, imo, reliability is paramount. Gonna run different ammo types thru it and see if that changes anything. Ive no experience with blowback-only ejection…but surely can see the benefits of an extractor, which this doesnt have…
Anyways, will review my beloved Tommy after running Normas,Fiocchis, etc…thru it,checking my grip(to make sure Im not hindering the slide, etc.

While the RM380 is also snappy, it is to a lesser degree than many others I have tried. I've had it a couple years and so far have not found any pocket .380 less snappy. Also, it's been 100% reliable with 1,000 rounds through it. My wife prefers her Taurus Spectrum. She also did not like the snappiness of the Rugers. Living in Northern California and always wanting a Kahr P-380, I had only one choice due to the CA DOJ approved gun list and that was the "California Compliant" P-380. While retail prices of near $800 and extreme rarity put it out of reach for me and my budget I did get very lucky to find a used "California Compliant" P-380 in my local gun shop for $500! Now I really do not think the added features of the "California Compliant" P-380 justified a price double of the regular P-380 however, I like the Lothar Walther match grade polygonal rifled barrel and the Drift Adjustable White Bar-Dot Combat Sights. It also has the chambered round indicator as well as the magazine disconnect which I could easily do without. My gun is a tack driver at 30 feet. I've also hit a 2 foot hanging steel plate multiple times at 100 yards. I guess this example is the ONLY positive thing I have found about buying guns in California!

I would like to add a training tip from the VERY distant past: I learned to aim and fire a handgun using, NOT the Tomcat, but the Beretta Jetfire .25acp. (this was in the 1960's.) My father handloaded, so he was not afraid to create perfectly safe BEESWAX loads as follows: 1) You get yourself a box of cartridges (in my dad's case .25acp, but would work perfectly well with .32acp) - 2) You pull the bullets out of the cases and dump the powder - and 3) you press the now-empty cases into a bar of beeswax. What this gives you is beeswax loads that can be inserted into the chamber via the use of the tip-up barrel, and which you can fire into any appropriate target, one shot at a time, using ONLY THE ENERGY OF THE PRIMER. This allows you to learn the sights of the gun, as well as trigger control, in the privacy of your own home, without alarming your neighbors, and in complete safety (we hung a target on the opening of our fireplace, and the beeswax only helped us to start the fireplace when we wanted a fire). Unorthodox? Yes. My dad was weird like that, but then he was a Special Weapons Technician in the Navy during WWII, so he was used to finding out WHATEVER would work to get the job done.

I recommend the Ruger LCP II to a new shooter. But instead of the 6 round mag, get the 7 round extended mag and you have a full grip. Recoil is non existent! Then grab a pro mag 10 round as a backup. Only thing is, the 10 round mag does not lock the slide. But it’s just a backup.

I have a lot good to say about .32acp ammunition. I carry a Walther PPK. Rather long in the tooth, I know. But mine has remained quite accurate and dependable through the years. The .32acp ammo packs a good punch. I regularly shoot paper targets mounted on 5-ply wood. More than 3/4 of my rounds go entirely through the wood. As "Q" said to James Bond, "It has a delivery like a brick through a plate glass window."

I very regularly conceal carry a S&W 638 Airweight .38 spl loaded with Hornady Critical Defense +p rounds. It’s only 5 shots and has its obvious limitations, but it is a convenient handgun with sufficient power for a basic self-defense scenario. It is not an enjoyable gun to shoot, tho. Other handguns I own that I will CC from time to time, depending on the situation: S&W Shield EZ .380, Ruger LCP II .22LR (I will be buying the .380 version soon… same size, might as well get a more powerful / reliable caliber), NAA Wasp .22WMR, and a Canik TP9SF 9mm. For home defense or when I’m out on my land and have to deal with large, dangerous animals, I have a Ruger GP100 .357 magnum. I have a customized Walther P22 staged as well.

    From the Beretta website:
Frequently, our departments receive emails and calls concerning an “issue” with our 3032 Tomcat frames cracking. This is mostly misinformation, perpetuated over the years in various mediums.
All Tomcat frames are built using 7075 T6 aluminum, the exact material used to manufacture AR-15 lower receivers. At the time the firearm was introduced to the market in 1996, it's cartridge, .32 ACP, was relatively weak, when compared to the muzzle energy produced by many modern cartridges. Upon introduction, the muzzle energy limit was set at 130 ft. Ibs. As time passed, many ammunition manufacturers got in to the practice of increasing the muzzle energy produced by these cartridges, to a point where in some cases, the cartridges could easily exceed 150-200 ft. Ibs of muzzle energy, much higher than the 14 ounce aluminum frame can tolerate. Herein lies the problem.
Yes, the frames can crack, however, the issue in question stems from the use of improper ammunition, that exceeds the tolerances of the aluminum frame. If the owner purchases ammunition with a higher muzzle energy than specified, repeated use will crack the frame. This is not a defect with the firearm, and damage resulting from the use of improper ammunition is not covered by the factory warranty. Moreover, new Tomcat purchases typically carry a small note card, or note in the manual, indicating these ammunition limits.
In response to this ammunition issue, in 2007-2010, Beretta USA began manufacturing Tomcats with widened slides, with the capability of absorbing more energy and preventing cracks from the use of improper ammunition. However, this has not affected the muzzle energy limits.
Ammunition manufacturers may change the muzzle energy of their cartridges over time. With that in mind, it is incumbent upon the buyer to learn the parameters of each box of cartridges purchased. Online purchases are very helpful, as charts usually accompany the purchase, and demonstrate cartridge metrics. Moreover, the buyer should check for each purchase.
To that end, the purchase of a used Tomcat carries some risk, as the prospective buyer may never know how the pistol was treated by the original owner.
If your Tomcat has suffered a cracked frame, then it will ultimately need to be retired from service, as the frames, which are serialized and regulated, can be neither replaced nor repaired.
On rare occasions, we have been known to sell the owner a new Tomcat at wholesale cost, should this issue occur.

This was actually resolved with the newer INOX models. I own one and it’s flawless. Just an FYI.

    • @Subtlenimbus
      @Subtlenimbus 2 роки тому

It hasn’t been resolved, because it still happens to the inox ones, though it is rare. It happens when people use hot cartridges like those from Underwood or Buffalo Bore. AFAIK, it seems that the cracks are cosmetic anyway. The guns function fine after the crack is smoothed out with a file or sand paper.
Beretta feels that it is covered by putting a kinetic energy limit on the ammo someone should use, but the final energy can only be determined by a particular cartridge fired through a particular gun over a chronograph. Whatever the ammo box says only relates to whatever the test gun was at the factory. For the Tomcat, Fiocchi 73 grain fmj just about hits 130 ftlbs.

I gotta be honest I’d love to carry the Glock 42 or the LCP Max and see how those are but then again your adding 3-4 more ounces which doesn’t sound like much but in sweatpants or gym shorts you’ll really notice it.

If you can shoot the Beretta the best you should try a Sig P238 for another 380 or a P938 for basically the same gun in 9mm . The P938 is a bit on the snappy side depending on what you put in it for ammo . But he P238 handles everything 380 has to offer power wise , they shoot like a mini 1911's the triggers are single action and very clean . Plus if your going to stick a gun in your pocket pointing at parts you would like to keep I'd always prefer it had a safety , and if you can't deal with a safety you need to train more .
