@@kohn7160 lmfao exactly. I’m sure the poor cop has been thro so much worse 😢😢 like that time he was bullied for being a weird nerd all through out Highschool which was the reason he decided he wanted to be a cop
Hear Hear. When I think that my first car was a (then) 13 year old rust bucket Ford Cortina. The whole interior was 99% metal with no plastic padding, no head rests, no seat belts, no ABS, no traction control, no collapsible steering column, no air bags, no crumple zones, no laminate windscreen, drum brakes all round - a complete death trap.
My little sister and her boyfriend were on the interstate doing about 75 mph. A car going the opposite direction suffered a suspension failure and suddenly jerked into oncoming traffic and hit my sister and her boyfriend head on going 75 mph. She not only walked away uninjured but actually the most severe injury she suffered were burns from the air bag deployment. Other than that she was just just a little sore and bruised up in a few places. I also went out and bought an Audi because thats what they were in.
I used to have a 79 Mercury Grand Marquis that thing was a damn tank lol 😅, some guy rear ended me in a Corolla and it crushed the whole front end of his car like a pop can, but only loosened the bumper on mine and put a little dent on the trunk 😅
@@xiongjieduan698 But if you were to hit anything going that fast your body would absurd all the impact those old metal cars are death traps. That’s why new cars fold the way they do in accidents because my life is more important than the car.
@@hughjanus2781 I don't know about that one dude. Those old cars were solid steel. The OLD steel, not the new steel. I'll never forget years ago when I was a boy, my grandmother had a good friend who got into a severe accident. She was hit and it wasn't her fault. Her heel was injured but that's it. She was driving one of those big tanks from the mid '70's. The cop told her the big car saved her life. Also, back in the 90's I had a 1984 Cadillac Fleetwood. One night, I was T-boned by some kid in a small red sports car. On the drivers side. My car was bent almost into the shape of a V. The cops estimated he was going at least 25 to 30 MPH over the speed limit around a blind curve. He was in bad shape and was taken, unconscious, to the hospital. The only thing that happened to me was that due to the door being hit, it split apart the window controls and door locks where my arm was resting and the metal cut through my jacket and cut my elbow. To this day I can remember the cop putting his arm around me and saying 'son...you're lucky you were driving this big car. If you were driving a car like the kid who hit you, we'd be scraping you off the pavement right now!" The car had no airbags, no modern safety features, and I was NOT wearing a seatbelt. Which is why, even to this day, I drive a full size SUV. Although I know its not the old kind of steel cars were made from, it still offers good protection.
The act of that trooper trying to shield the other cars from impact, knowing he was going to get hit essentially at a dead stop with a 70mph missile, is nothing short of heroic. Can’t believe his back wasn’t destroyed.
I flipped a car 3 times, going 70mph.. I had cuts and bruising, but all and all thought I was ok. Years later, it started affecting my back. I can barely get a good night's sleep now. The moral of the story, shit can and will hurt later on.
That honestly depressed me. If that man has been through worse and smiling when he says it while trying to show he’s okay, he must’ve experienced some real tough times in life. I hope he’s okay, seems very genuine.
The cop that put his car into drive and steered it towards the center median to avoid crashing into others is not only hero but a real good guy. Very noble of him.
@@UpstateMan607 People who intentionally put themselves in danger, or take a stand against corruption against astounding odds. If that cop is a hero, It's not because of this.
@@TheIrishMugFug the only reason the officer is there is to be the first line of defense for this exact scenario. He literally put himself in harm's way to protect everyone at the first accident site. By your own definition, he's a hero.
That trooper is the loveliest person! Tried to minimise damage when he saw the accident coming. Concerned about the other driver. What an absolutely wonderful person!
I have infinite respect for that state trooper man. He was just trying to serve the community, got hit at 70 mph, and got out smiling saying “ill live, ive been through worse.” He took that like an absolute champ.
The hit trooper saying, "I haven't gotten a chance to check on him yet, hope he's okay" to a guy who nearly killed him is extremely caring and empathetic.
He also stopped to help out the other police agency just to put traffic cones out to make sure the kids are safe. Dude definitely seems like a good one
Wow, the fact that the officer was able to assess the immanent crash and steer toward the barrier is excellent! He still had the situational awareness to see the threat coming before it was too late. This could really have ended differently if he hadn't noticed and was just rocketed forward. Great work, officer!
assess is to evaluate whatever is going on. anticipate is to predict what is going to happen. So to anticipate something, you must first assess the situation. He's not wrong. You're not wrong either. But you don't have to try to sound smart by trying to correct him. Just sayin.@@3_up_moon
"Disgusting"? You need to choose your words carefully because if you don't watch your mouth, you're going to say something that you regret to a grown man who will put you in your place. For example, if you took the wrong tone with a guy like me, you might find yourself in a fight that you can't handle.
Couldn't agree more. I hope people appreciate how incredibly aware the officer actually was. His action to preemptively steer towards the median could have saved lives, all the while knowing he could have been severely injured by the inevitable collision.
I'm angry at both drivers. The one who didn't have his kids properly secured and the guy who crashed into the officer. Imagine those children in a collision! You don't know who's on the road, and if you can't even trust your parent to keep you as safe as possible, who can you count on?!
Imagine thinking stoping a drunk driver putting innocent children and other drivers in danger is wrong. You partake in crack too? Also how is it that everyone else managed to move out the way but this guy didn't? Idiots, you and them. @user-jj9ib7iq6u
@user-jj9ib7iq6u So let the drunk guy drive with his kids not properly in their seats (the video said the father was impaired as well) and potentially kill them cause some other drunk asshole might crash into the car?? Y'all just find any reason to hate the police 😂
I had to downvote that comment by User-jj9ib7iq6u who obviously has a fake/bot account to troll like this because lets face it - cops doing cops job and showing empathy as well in a situation that could have ended that troopers life because of an irresponsible driver making a deadly decision to drive drunk. You can't miss a state trooper blocking traffic with lights on - no one else was missing it, except for the drunk person. Only criminals hate police because they are the ones who force criminals to face judgement, something no criminal would do on their own.
Actually he was protecting the driver of the car who crashed into the back of him. By putting it into drive instead of keeping it on hand break, it meant the collision was a lot less sudden than otherwise decreasing the force of the collision potentially saving the guys life
This video is also a perfect example of why you shouldn't change a tire or try to fix a faulty engine on the side of the highway. Someone I knew was literally cut in half this way. He was trying to fix a blown gasket, "safely" in the breakdown lane on the highway. But a drunk driver fixated on his hazard lights and hit the car from behind while he was standing in front of the engine bay. It wasn't a pretty sight. If you have a flat tire, or an engine issue, do NOT try to fix it anywhere near a highway. Either try to limp your disabled vehicle to an off-ramp and into a suburban street or quiet area, or stay in your car (seatbelt on) and call a tow truck or mobile mechanic for help. Once you've assessed your situation, and if it's safe, exit the car and stand behind the highway barricades. There are literally thousands of drunk/high scum like the guy in this video driving around at any one time.
I completely agree, however an experience I had in May 2021 has me questioning the seatbelt thing. I was driving along when a guy cut off a semi and his rear end clipped the semi and sent him into the concrete barrier in the left lane. The guy got out of his car and started freaking out. I keep telling him to get back in, he finally listens after an SUV rolled after swerving to miss him. The next car slammed into the back of him, ejecting him out his passenger door as his car went up in flames immediately and was engulfed. He only broke his arm. Maybe he was lucky but seeing that happen really makes you wonder if seatbelts should be worn in certain circumstances or not.
Yup, I had to deal with a blown tire a few months ago when I was going to visit a friend in Colorado. Pulled off to the side to change the tire and had a state trooper pull up behind me, he told me that it would be safer to drive the extra one hundred feet and pull off the road (I didn't realize there was an offramp just a hundred feet or so since this happened in the mountains) but I took his advice and did just that. He stayed behind me since I couldn't go very fast and even after I off the expressway, he stayed and helped me change the tire. On the way back I saw a terrible accident on the road and found out when I got home that a different driver was doing what I was doing: changing their tire, and got struck by a mustang going 90. That driver, sadly, was killed (the eighteen year driving the mustang wasn't)
@@AJVD2123 I’d rather not become a flying object than have a slight chance of my car bursting into flames. They drill the importance of seatbelts into you in drivers ED. Basic physics tells you that anything in your car becomes a missile.
Really smart thinking on the part of the trooper. Popped the car in drive, turned towards the barrier and got ready for impact. Potentially prevented a much worse crash.
The trooper actually saw the car coming toward him, KNEW he was gonna get hit, and had the forethought to get himself ready to be smashed into the divider instead of the other units in front of him. Just wow... 💜 Thank God he walked away without a scratch. We need more people and officers like him in this world.
@@falcon1378 Actually quite the opposite; Bracing tenses the body up which can lead to further injury, hence why so many drunk drivers survive major/fatal collisions with minor injury while the other person is seriously hurt or killed
@@falcon1378 Haha no worries... You may be right, I prefer dodging punches myself, but even in a fight, maybe "going with the blow" is the way to go... Less impact. 👍👊

The cop in his cruiser that was hit by someone doing 70 mph, then steering his cruiser into a safer position is a “ Legend”. He is truly Awesome, glad he was okay and hopefully the other driver didn’t suffer to much
What impresses me most about this video: The progression of car safety technology. He rear-ended a stationary SUV at 70mph, and while he did get a broken knee, he was still mobile enough that he opened the door and was trying to get out of his car. The deputy who got rear-ended appeared to be pretty much fine. If these had been 1970s cars, with the same type and speed of collision, the impaired driver would have had a closed-casket funeral, and the deputy who got rear-ended would either have been dead or paralyzed for life.
Cop cars are engineered to take hits like that. If you go through the fleet section of the auto manufacturer's website and look at their police cruisers they are usually rated for upwards of 70 mph rear impacts while protecting the driver. It's amazing what we can engineer.
@@Saxophone_King Correct...though it's actually a little higher at 75 mph. You can't buy a equivalent Ford SUV to the police inceptor though which is what pisses me off(would need to get one used at an auction) Ever since I've been rear ended by some distracted Gen Z driver I've been trying to find something engineered like the police inceptors. Crashes are at a all time high now because of cell phones.
As a deputy and knowing several troopers we are well aware that t-stops on interstates and multi lane roads in larger cities are just about death traps for all involved. I've seen troopers injured badly by other vehicles crashing into them at full I-state speeds PLUS. That trooper may say he's OK but I promise the incident will follow him all the rest of his days in his body. His training was good, he was watching that rear view. Good man, I hope he recovers well.
If it’s known to be a death trap then why is the stop done at the interstate at all? Why not pulling the car out at the next exit ramp and stop at a safe spot?
December 11, 1980 I was t-boned by another driver - who was eventually ticketed for failure to yield - while I was going around 45 mph. I also was NOT wearing a seat belt. (they weren't NEARLY as popular back then) I was thrown clear out of the vehicle thru the drivers door and ended up sliding down the road on my rear end, in basically a seated position, until I came to a complete stop. Nothing but scratches and bruises on myself, but I still remember it vividly to this day. I also remember the other drivers name. (not that I hold a grudge - much)

1000%. My dad did it all the time with me in his truck from when i was just months old until he got his license revoked when I was 13. The danger I and others were in blows my mind. He feels no remorse, blames the cops for being bored all those nights he got DUIs. Makes me nauseous.
The sad thing is they continue to drive whether they have a license or not. The other major issue is the number of vehicles driving around with no registration or insurance.
@AR_119 I've never had someone say that to me about this, so it honestly means the world. Like knowing I didn't deserve to be put in that situation. Thank you so so much. I genuinely needed that.

All respect to the trooper, but he sounded like God's mighty charm bracelet with all that equipment jangling around. There MUST be a better way to equip our law enforcement officers so that they CAN run when necessary!
State Trooper: "Man I am getting sick of impaired drivers putting others at risk like these kids!" *patrol car gets smashed by another drunk driver* State Trooper: "AWWW COME ON!!"
Two birds one incident. On a serious note, hats off to the trooper for having the presence of mind to put his car in drive to lessen the blow and steer his car into the median to protect the other people at the scene ahead. Had he not been there, it would have been a lot worse. Now they got 2 impaired drivers off the road
That Trooper literally moved his SUV in front of the driver that was coming towards him to protect his buddies, and children in one other SUV. That takes bravery, toughness, and being a hero to a whole new level. That Trooper deserves a promotion for doing that!
Take it easy there turbo... the trooper was just doing his job and what he was trained to do, and using common sense. Stop acting like he saved the world
While I do agree the Trooper should be praised for his reaction, it is important to note that he didn't see the car coming and move into the way. He was parked, to block traffic, and the guy ran into him. What he did was enable his car to hit the median and not his fellow officers ahead of him

A cop friend of mine was rear-ended a few years ago and it noticably messed him up a lot and it didn't even look all the bad (the photos of the cars). But he still gets light headed all the time, still has neck problems, he's more easily annoyed, and he's just different. This guy certainly received a stiff neck for weeks to come. My brother's car was rear-ended by somebody else some decades ago. He in the driver's seat, me in the passenger seat. He saw the car approaching in the mirror and stiffened up. I was surprised. I was treated for my stiff neck a couple of times. But his was worse. Stiffening up, meant his neck was stretched even more. He needed treatment much longer than me. And the speed the other had was significantly less than what is shown here. The other car was hit in the front but it was not wrecked like the one in the video.

He most likely saved the lives of his fellow officers, and potentially the children as well. Nothing but respect for this officer!

It's rare when someone who actually knows how to react in a life or death situation, firstly is the one who actually finds themselves in the exact situation they were trained for. Secondly for them to remember something they've likely never practiced more than once if ever and to execute it perfectly. Putting the car in neutral or drive , letting go of the brake and steering in a clear direction saved this man's life at least from serious injury. Awesome to see something like that in action

Like a heavyweight boxer just punched me right in my chest. How this officer could speak right away and keep himself composed is amazing. That’s one tough officer right there!
It's crazy here in Wisconsin. This shit happens multiple times a day. This is normal for our state. The courts are so soft on people with DUI's it a joke. And you wonder why people still have a valid license with 6 DUI's under their belt. Very little consequence for driving drunk or high here in Wisconsin. And it's only getting worse.
I'm sorry, but that's freaking nuts. I mean, it seems like most states these days have fairly soft courts for pretty much every sort of crime, but still...
Taking people's licenses doesn't deter or do anything about it. It's your state culture that makes people alcoholics before they can even legally drink.
The fact that I read an article about a Wisconsin man with his TWELFTH DUI is appalling. The fact that he was somehow on the road? Disgusting. The fact that he has probably been drinking his entire life and lives in a state where he gets a slap on the wrist instead of intense rehab? Very sad. I also once had a very shitty neighbor who had an interlock system in his vehicle who would regularly have his girlfriend blow into it to drive half a mile, beer in his hand, to pick up more beer from the gas station. And this is all just in the city. Let alone what happens on the fringes of suburbia or rural areas which are honestly much worse. Fuck Wisconsin and their shitty drinking culture where getting an underage ticket is a "right of passage".

A credit to car manufacturers for developing cars that are so safe that a driver can survive a direct collision at 70 mph.
You know he is going to feel it the next day!
I’m pretty sure the kids were in one of those cars too
If dumbass didn't park in the road there wouldn't have been an accident
True
I flipped a car 3 times, going 70mph.. I had cuts and bruising, but all and all thought I was ok. Years later, it started affecting my back. I can barely get a good night's sleep now. The moral of the story, shit can and will hurt later on.

It might be standard procedure now related to Scott's Law
It makes you wonder if it would have never happened if he didnt park in the middle of the road. Not saying hes in the wrong but it makes me wonder
@@AJVD2123 staying inside the vehicle is the safest
@@AJVD2123 I still believe that in the majority of instances you are better off with your seatbelt on. But wow that was lucky.

The dui driver prolly woulda been turned to jelly, like damn our cars are so safe to those back then
Wow no one cares
Cop cars are engineered to take hits like that. If you go through the fleet section of the auto manufacturer's website and look at their police cruisers they are usually rated for upwards of 70 mph rear impacts while protecting the driver. It's amazing what we can engineer.
