Her comment about recognizing a person's handwriting is the same as hearing a person's footsteps. The human brain's capacity to recognize patterns is a marvel.

      Better than AI.
Generative AI can recreate an image, but it would look weird. The fingers would be wrong, the perspective wrong, the legs of a chair would be wrong.

Shout out to Mrs. Diggs, my second grade teacher in Virginia. When I started school there, my penmanship was terrible. She said to me “Oh no baby, this won’t do.”
She sent a note home with me that day telling my Mom that I was not in trouble but had to stay after school to work on my handwriting.
Three days a week for about three weeks and I was good to go.

Barbara, I met you in your Sydney shop some years back. Although I bought some cufflinks in the end, and not a pen, we had a brief chat about fountain pens as it was my dad's passion as well. You couldn't resist and wrote your name on a piece of paper so artistically, as a memento of our encounter, for my father. It's so nice to see you on UA-cam, sharing your passion for writing. Greetings from Singapore, Cecilia here.

I love good handwriting but my own is highly variable which is not helped by arthritis. My innermost self can also be somewhat chaotic as the brain tends to run faster than the hand. I have resolved to improve this at 65 by purchasing some good fountain pens and methodically working toward consistency. 👍🏻

My first pen was a PaperMate fountain pen in 3rd grade. I enjoyed practicing my letters, even though they weren’t very good. My Mother had beautiful handwriting so I wanted to be like hers.
Fast forward decades when I found Quill and Nib writing and I’m starting all over again. Besides, today people don’t know Cursive anymore. But I do😊

Just use a fountain pen so you don’t keep dipping your pen. But if you really insist, at least use a glass dip pen.

I’m fortunate to to be in the generation that required handwriting. Penmanship was taught by Mr. White in the 6th grade. In this day of iPads, iPhones etc. I often thank Mr. White. I am left handed so my question is how do you respond to that in your classes?

My handwriting is not great. I would always be in a hurry to write, therefore it was messy. It is hard to see people write anymore with the cell phones, electronics, writing IS essential.
And some will find that out. It is a skill that I will never master like Ms. Nichols. For most people it is a gift to be able to write in a way that some are mesmerized by.
It's a training process all over again, when you get older and it gets harder be it age, hand pain, that is why I have seeked out Fountain Pens, they do help with hand pain.

Lamy Safari fountain pens are the most ergonomic and comfortable fountain pens I’ve tried.

@@artelisx You are one of the few people I have heard say that here in YT land.
I have no problems with them because I hold my pens like that. I enjoy them. Especially there broad nibs. Because I write big.

It's the only thing I don't like about being a lefty! Not the best handwriting. Very neat and legible but not pretty. 😢
