I love to hear that I’m not the only one whose heart leaps out of their chest when they see a rare fruit at a market! Thanks for another awesome video!
Its such a rush sometimes haha
That happens to me
Same lol
Jared, your reaction to the guy who yelled "Sapote!" at you...
I haven't laughed that hard in weeks, and I'd just like to send a subtle nod and a casual yet hesitant wave your way.
Thanks for making such a cool and unique channel.
"I have a string in my teeth. *pulls it out* ...That's attractive."😂
just giving you good people at home what you came here for
Also, I’m glad you enjoyed Colombia! 🇨🇴 and I’m so happy they behaved at the fruit market like you said. I don’t think the guards where giving you a stink eye. Maybe just concerned for your safety ! Colombians are very warm and hospitable. I hope you had a wonderful stay.
The guy yelling Sapote at you😂I died with your reaction😂. LOVE sapotes they remind me of summers spent in Colombia on vacation. My grandfather bought them by the sack on the side of the roads up in the mountains in Medellin. Thanks for the trip down memory lane on the exotic fruit train. “Sapote!” 😂😂😂
That guy screaming was right, it is called the South American Sapote!
Matthew Graves Both names are acceptable though
Watching this videos makes me crave fruit.
I DEFINITELY didn't just buy a 5 pound box of rambutan...noooo. I'm very happy with my purchase 😂
I laughed when I read this while opening a purple mangosteen. A Birthday treat to myself!🤣
i bought a bag of those things as big as my torso once
I'm from Colombia and its literally the first time I hear "chupa chupa" hahahahaha, I think someone made a joke to you about its name, in Colombia is know as "Zapote" and its soposed to be very juici, maybe yours was very dry, because a really good zapote drops the juice instantly you open it, similar to a mango.
Nope, chupa chupa is a common name for it, though I guess not in Colombia :) It didn't drip everywhere, but the flesh was juicy when I ate it.
Weird Explorer I’ve also always heard this referred to as a chupa chupa
@@WeirdExplorer this is what we call zapote in venezuela too, and zapote aint just any soft fruit
@@alecity4877 "Zapote" comes from the Nahuatl language word "tzápotl" it does indeed mean soft edible fruit and refers usually to at least 6 completly diffrent, unrelated species, Manilkara zapota, Pouteria campechiana, Pouteria sapota, Diospyros nigra, Casimiroa edulis and this one Matisia cordata
@@FruitingPlanet oh, didn't know the etymology. Though I don't know what I meant with the part of "Zapote ain't just any soft fruit", as you see no one in the thread mentions softness but juicyness, I can only guess I tried to make a comment about its softness(?
I ate that fruit just now... in Quebec city! I found an importer of Columbian fruits right next door, they just opened and they have very rare fruits! He called it a sapote, but it was a little different than the usual sapote so I came on your channel to check and found this! I'm going to support that little shop hard because they tend to close quickly. The fruits are damn expensive though, the Chupa chupa cost me 6$ and the mangosteen 2$
4:04 like something the Lorax would speak for
I love your fruit channel. I appreciate all the fruit videos.
thanks!
aaaaand I just worked out why chupa chups are called what they are
chu Harry it means suck suck...... coz they’re shaped like tits 😳
I'm a fruit lover like you, your videos give me more interest in this field. ... Thank you very much
Thanks!
Most welcome Bro
Yeah! You were able to try Chupa Chupa!! We would buy them at the Sunday market in Puyo, Ecuador. The ones we purchased did not have all that fiber. One of my favorite fruits. Wish I could grow it here. Love your videos!
Oh nice! Thank you
Nope, there are chupa chupas that have fruited there. www.hort.purdue.edu/newcrop/morton/chupa-chupa.html
That's why it is called Zapote colombiano in Costa Rica
Here in Panama is called sapote colombiano
Luis Arauz Panamanian here! Huge fan of the channel too
Keep that fruit train rolling! Choo choo! 😉
haha!
Yeyyyy new video!!! Looks similar to what we call Chicos in the Philippines. But Chicos has a sort of sandy texture.
Lex Manson He reviewed a sapodilla already.
Juan Pedro Mariano Oh that's what it's called! Thank you! 🙂
It does! It tastes a little bit like them too
OHHHH! Now THAT is interesting!
Lex Manson gross
I have not watched the video yet, but when I grew up in Australia there was a candy, a lollipop, with the brand name Chupa Chup....
stevemonkey6666 yeah, I remember them too. It only further cements the fact that the name of the fruit is spanish for suck-suck.
stevemonkey6666 It still exists.:)
Yeah, Chupa Chups. Not only in Australia, it exists in Europe as well.
In Italy we call it Chupa Chupa
Same but I'm from Bulgaria. Those lolipops were the best.
It looks like a good fruit. “Chupar” in Spanish means “to suck,” and one name for a hummingbird is “chuparosas” (“that which sucks roses”). So yes, “suck suck fruit.”
Yep. In Spanish, chupa is suck. Not the negative, but like sweeties.
in portuguese too!
best fruit ever
Hi Jared, I just want you to know that I love your videos! I think you have the coolest life, and I am slightly jealous that I can't explore and try new fruits like you! ;)
I do have a question though..... Have you ever had an allergic reaction to trying one of the fruits? If so which one, and what did you do to stop it?
Keep it up!
Thanks! No I haven't had an allergic reaction. Though I did watch a friend of mine's face blow up like a balloon because I gave her a piece of jackfruit... oops.
I'd be interested to hear about fruits native to North America that aren't readily available in other parts of the world.
The chicle or chicozapote is a tree of the sapotaceae family native to Mexico, Central America, tropical South America and the Caribbean. It is also commonly known as ácana or níspero.
Scientific name: Manilkara zapota
I love your channel.
Looks like a baked sweet potato. When I saw the outside i thought it was going to be white inside. I was wrong.
Fruit train! Woowooo! Coming through!
So if you cook it with goat, do you get Chupacabra? ;)
Como me he reído hasta las lágrmas, debes ser puertorriqueño(a)
I died when you said "suck suck... Or maybe it's just my perverted brain" 😂😂😂
By the way here in SA we have home made suckers which we call Chupas... So no it aint ur brain👌🏾💛
why is it that in America. we can't find most of the exotic fruits that you eat and all these different countries. I wish they were some kind of place like a farmers market you can buy tropical and strange fruits from all over the world. I live in Los Angeles California. if you know of any supermarket are place that will have exotic fruits it'd be nice to have it posted so people can try them out. I love your videos and I like that you can go all over the world and try out all these exotic fruits. you're real lucky guy.
In perù (Iquitos) they call Zapote.
I don't know what it is, but it looks delicious.
Looks like you got plenty of weird looks there. There is reportedly an improved variety of that with almost no fiber though. Must be much more convenient to eat.
Oh yeah, people kept coming up to me the whole time I was at this market haha. A fiberless variety sounds amazing.
Please explorer Bangladesh after South America. You can find the ridge gourd, balsam apple, elephant apple, satkora and lots more
thanks
I’ve never laughed so hard 😂 You do not want to know what “chupa” means in the Philippines.
I do though! Is it just suck? Google won't tell me.
Who else has had chupa Chupa? Let me know what you think of them
You should try a Medlar fruit.
I'm working on that one. I found a place that grows them a few hours away from me.
Weird Explorer I have a medlar source. Want me to send you a few?
I get the suck thing! Chupa's are lolipops. THAT is why they use a word the means suck.
What are the benefits of the fruit?
It's innards are orange!
Mmmmmm this is my favorite fruit
Looks similar to the ripe Asian taal palm fruit (Borassus flabellifer). I wonder if they're related.
Foreseen G. Not at all
Nope, I did review that fruit too though, its listed as "toddy palm" if you search my channel
Weird Explorer you tasted the unripe version of the fruit, the ripe version looks very much like this. And your description of the taste seems to fit too.
Its name is not the appropriate chupa chupa but I understand it because still are in the time of Spanierds and English conquester in the animal and trees from the rain amazon forest
chupa in my native language means Suck, & it always refer to something sexual...
Actually I had a question- where do you hear about all of these tropical fruits? With all the time I spent on researching tropical and subtropical fruit growing I figured I would hear about more of these, but I’m constantly surprised by things I’ve never heard of before! Maybe it’s because I’m not actually out there traveling in the world and these are almost never grown in the US. Regardless, thanks for the by-proxy adventure!
it's called field work, if you want to prove really weird fruits, travel to Leticia in Colombia, there are weird fruits even for colombian standars
Hey Jen, its a combination of things. Before I go anywhere I look online for common fruits in the area, I also ask for suggestions from other fruit fanatics and growers. Also a number of things I just learn about from talking with other people and just researching fruit for the hell of it. But even with all that I will come across fruits I never seen and have to figure it out afterwards.
Carlos, I'll look up Leticia, thanks for the tip!
Maybe you can find it imost in Florida there are a lot of rare tropical fruit trees growing there
from around of the world
PERUVIAN MANGO MI AMIGO
Do u have the seeds to share ???
nope!
Did you tried to eat boiled unripe dates
Can we grow it in hot areas
Really confused there a lot fruits called zapotes" this one is a real rare fruit I try it a long time ago it's very good there is nothing to compare it's has it own taste
Okay...so I think it looks like a breast...and that might be part of the reason for the "chupa chupa" thing. Maybe I'm wrong...but I think there is a reason for the thumbnail being the fruit looking its most breast-like.
absolutely does. chupa chupa I think is because you have to suck the flesh off the seed though.
Chumash chupa literally means suck suck but also lollipop:)
The Spanish word for suck is chupa so you're probably right.
It's related to durian not sapotes.
Zapote = Big Frog
Why on earth would you call it a sapote when you can call it a “sucky sucky?” 😂
Does not take like zapote, it taste like heaven
It's called a Chupa Chupa because there is a famous German sweet, I think, that is called chupa chups because its a lollipop and you need to suck a lollipop and the fruit the same
No, in Spanish chupa means suck.
hahaha you don't wanna know the meaning of chupa chupa here in the Philippines. 😂
Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa Chupa
A tiny green coconut? It likes elephant apple found in Bangladesh
Chupa mean suck in Hindi
tony singh As with many languages
Algorithm comment
My favorite fruit. I hate you for having it
And I envy both of you for knowing what it tastes like. Nice colour, yummy chupa chupping. 😁
we actually call them sapotes even tho they're not related to the sapotes you've had, chupa chupa does mean suck suck, we don't call all soft fruits sapotes lol you're silly
