I just want to say thank you to all the teachers, earlier this week I started helping out in a 3rd grade classroom and experienced how hard virtual teaching can be on teachers. Before helping out in an elementary classroom I only saw a high school senior perspective on virtual learning. I only went one day so far and it was eye opening. All teachers are putting all there effort into virtual learning and some still struggle with technical problems, with the new learning style. Overall thank you to every single teacher for all the hard work and dedication to virtual learning and your students!!
Thank you so much for saying this! It really means a lot because most of us only hear from the general community when things are not going well. This profession takes over our entire lives! I'm in year 33 and my husband in year 25 and we both feel like first year teachers again during remote teaching! However, we both feel we're getting to know our students so much better in this setting! It's weird, but they're producing so much more than usual. I think it's because there are less distractions than in a regular classroom. It is definitely ore work, but it is going well! Thank you for noticing!
I use three screens and it has been a wonderful game changer for me for almost three years. I use three monitors in my career field as a Health Technologist but when I transitioned the same thing into my teaching career it has made my life wonderful!
Gotta love Apple TV as a second screen!! I’ve actually airplayed your videos on it. Your tech tips are always on point. They were well explained. I definitely got them. This video is being shared with my teacher friends as soon as I finish writing this! You have nailed the system down, it’s quick, efficient, and works for you!!
Michelle, I am a veteran teacher but I have learned so much from you! I look forward to your videos every week. I bought the doc cam you have because I saw it on your previous video and you were kind enough to link it. I can’t thank you enough! I know a lot of people are using their phones as a doc cam and personally, I did Google it and found out how to use my iPad as one. It was hard to maneuver it and set it up in just the right way. However, this doc cam is so easy to use and literally starts working as soon as you plug it in. It allows flexibility in showing things close up or far away. It is small and compact, which is another plus. I was allowed to bring an old ELMO from school home to teach virtual this year. However, it was so old that the drivers could not be installed. As for price, yes, it still is $84 on Amazon, but that is a fraction of what other doc cams cost. Seems to be some price gouging going on with doc cams lately. If you need a doc cam and web cam, it’s worth it. Btw, if you download an additional free app, it allows you to do a wide variety of more advanced functions, so all the better! Thanks again, Michelle!
Im so envious! All of the channels I see of teachers show like you guys have it packed down and it’s all smooth sailing for you and your students 😞 We had the worst experience ever with mine... we’re about to finish the school year but wasn’t able to connect fully with them, my set up is very basic and cant seem to get my students to engage... plus i got switched to 7th grade from 2nd grade which makes it way more complicated 😞 Thank you though, I always watch your vids for inspiration 😍
OMG! You have made my life so much better for teaching @ home! It gets so crowded on my screen trying to teach, switch between tabs, and trying to monitor my kids. I'm using a MacBook Pro and my Roku TV. Thank you X's 5! 😇 P.S. As you can tell... my name is Michelle too, and I'm a 3rd gr. teacher in MD (I had 4th last year). LOL
Thank you so much for all that you do. I love working with children with disabilities, but because of the treatment, I received over the past two years from my Administration. I have decided not to become a teacher. However, I wanted to thank you for all of your assistance for the past year.
I use a Chromebook for Google Meet. In Google Meet you are able to sign in with your own id more than once. So I sign in for both on two devices. That way I can see both what I am presenting and what my students are doing.
I maintain my sister's zoom classroom set up since I pass on my old tech to her. She's been using my old iMac and Elmo document camera from my job, but it started to fail so we had to get this. Your video helped us tremendously!
You have been a life saver. I am higher education but many of your amazing ideas can be applied. I am so glad I found your channel. We just received the news that we will continue to teach from home in the spring as well so will have to look into some of these suggestions here.
I’m a freshman in high school right now but I have wanted to be a middle schools science teacher since I was in seventh grade... I know your videos are directed to other teacher but I still love them 😂❤️
Thanks for the ideas! I’m using a second screen (ipad) and my LCD projector (so the kids at school can watch while I’m online with the rest of the class) at the same time which was echoing, but I think it’s fine now.
I have both places setup this way because I love to continue work while teaching at the same time lol I showed my colleagues to do the same. Makes it so much easier.
I like to connect my old iPhone to my Mac using a lightning cable and launch Quicktime Player. Click the File menu and choose "New Movie Recording." Click the arrow to the right of the record button and you'll see the iPhone as a choice. If you want to record audio as well, change the microphone to the iPhone as well
Always fantastic suggestions! I a using a second screen from now on and I also have a document camera, it belongs to my school and I purchased a ring light with a cell phone holder for making my videos and teaching virtually. I love your videos!!!
If your TV has something like an Amazon Firestick, you can screencast to your TV from a PC just like you can with Apple TV. You can also screen cast to your TV if you have a smart TV. Basically, you your device is connected to WIFI somehow, then it is likely you can screencast without wires and use it as a monitor.
It was clear. I tried to figure it out using google before I came to your video and couldn't find a good explanation! Then I remembered that you explained how to do it so I searched for this video again.
So this is how you look when you are tired, exhausted, run down? Jokes apart, thanks for the second screen thing. I followed you instructions and I have iMac, LCD screen and my MacAir all lined-up. Love your vlog.
Thank you. I have an outdated document camera that can’t download to a Mac. I hate switching computers back and forth, so I think I’ll break down and buy a document camera and light. Thanks for the tutorial.
And if you use an old phone for your document camera, put it on one of those wire locker organizer shelves, with the phone on top shooting down at the document below. Some of our art teachers are using them.
I just set up another screen as well, it's a life changer! (Not to mention while I'm lesson planning I can watch netflix on one screen and work on the other! LOL)
If you don't have an HDMI cable and have to go out and buy one PLUS an adapter for the new macbooks, they sell HDMI cords that are HDMI to USB-C! They're on amazon, super handy because it's just one piece and I don't have to worry about an adapter.
Michelle, so I went on Amazon on 10/2 to order the web cam and didn't realize it was coming from Taiwan with a due date of 10/25. The next day I cancelled it. I went back on Amazon and can not find a USA distributor. This is a wonderful investment. Pls post the full name of the web cam and any other details that will enable me to purchase this item asap. Thanks Michele
Great video! Thank you. I am curious if you could do the same thing with a Chromecast if you did not have an AppleTV attached to your TV or second HDMI monitor. Less expensive option if you are just using airplay.
Easy hack on a pc (at least my windows 10), on keyboard press the windows key and p and display pops up and you can change from duplicate, extend screen, 2nd screen only, or 1st screen only.
Wow! So helpful. I wish I had found this sooner. I have an Okio Document Camera. I sure would appreciate a video tutorial on how to use it. Not really how to use the different features.
I heard you are using Google Meet. In Zoom, I place students in a Meeting Room to work on their individual Center activities (we are not allowed to leave 2nd graders in a Breakout room unattended). Has anyone used Google Meet Waiting Room extension for Centers or is there another extension? If so, please share your experiences and thoughts. Google Meet provides us with better audio than Zoom when students use Chromebooks.
Thank you for this! I literally *JUST* got hired for my first ever teaching job (I'll be teaching middle school english) and it'll be all virtual via Google Classroom/Meet. This has been so helpful.
I have to ha e two screens. I do the extend display at home but at school I bring my laptop and then turn on the pc but I’m thinking about just getting a monitor and bring that to school and dismantle the pc because it’s so slow. Love the videos.
Im using my phone and my computer for meets. I join as diffrent users and I talk through the phone and share through the computer, so I can se if theres delay in what im showing as internet conection isnt very good where I live
for anyone using a macbook that can run High Sierra or newer (Big Sur) you can use sidecar with an apple pencil compatible ipad and an apple pencil as a second monitor. that’s what i do when i need a second monitor for my macbook. just for anyone thats wondering i’m pretty sure the majority of Macbooks, Macbook Airs, Pros, And iMac/iMac Pro 2013 or newer can run High Sierra and use sidecar :) if you’re very tech savvy you could rig up an older computer to be able to run High Sierra with a program but beware of the lag :0
Michelle you are amazing!!!!!! I really appreciated watching your utube videos to learn as much as I can about VL. I teach Special Education in Toronto, Canada and when it comes to remote learning parents are not on board. They would rather send their child off to school and let us deal with in-person learning which is a shame because I have learnt some much from you I want to put into action. However, I do have one student at home I would like to use as a trial to incorporate all the technics. Can I ask you to direct me to one of your videos about sharing your screen on google meet, as I would love to use a slide lesson I have created using Nearpod. P.S. once again I must mention that you are so wonderful to provide us with all your fabulous ideas!
I loved seeing your set up! I am doing my student teaching right now and am trying to think of things my relatives can get me for christmas and graduation for my future classroom. What are some things you suggest asking for?
What is the make and name of the white desk you work from at home? Where did you purchase it? I have been looking for just the right desks for weeks! LOVE it! Thank you for supporting all of us through your videos!
Hello can you please tell me how to see all zoom participants while sharing screen…I have them on my tv as a second screen but when I start sharing the kids became in 2 pages so I can’t see all of them at once.. thank you so much for help my using my tv as a second screen..it’s so helpful thanks
I bought a Sceptre monitor as my additional display to use with my MacBook Air. It’s working great! The only problem I have is that I have to unplug my Mac charger in order to plug in the hdmi cable adapter. So my computer loses battery life while I’m using both. Is there a way to charge it at the same time?
Thank you so much for sharing! I'm wondering, when using a second laptop as a monitor, how do I stop the reverberation of sound. I have turned the audio off of my second laptop, but my voice reverberates terribly. Any advise?
Hi Michelle! First...thanks for being such a caring, sharing, and compassionate educator. I'm absorbing all your knowledge and appreciate the number of hours you've saved me. :-) I tried to click on the Box Light Link and it said "Page cannot be found." Just wanted to let you know. I'll try to find another one unless I hear back from you in a few days...want you to reap the rewards if possible! :-)
I actually use my SmartBoard as a second screen in my classroom, but I am also using two MacBook Airs. How could I use a second MacBook Air as a second screen (instead of the SmartBoard) if I don't have an Apple TV? Is there a way to do it without connecting to HDMI?
Thank you so much for these awesome videos!! Question - do you stand up when using the whiteboard behind you? Trying to figure out if I need a whiteboard on a stand or I can put it on the wall behind me. Thanks!

I teach live/synchronous college lectures with just my MacBook and whiteboard attached to my basement wall. They seem to like it, so...
@@marktwain368 As teachers, we should stick together and support one another, celebrate in each other’s triumphs.

I follow from Puerto Rico, I learn so much with you . I'm social science teacher.
I’ve been wanting a document camera… no idea why I didn’t think of using my phone!! Thank you so much… will be using in September
This DOC CAM!! Thank you for recommending it!
