lmao, “this looks like a nice random rock” guy limits out with a ton of tog. i fish out on the south shore and theres a thousand boats on any given day and we all catch cock
I was out there that day to on my jetski fishing for black fish off Truman beach and the stripers and albies came in hard all day action. 10/11 2020 was one of the best days out there! i caught over 20 stripers with a 42 incher in the mix! everything with an epoxy jigg. ruff waters in the morning but calmed down by one oclock. love your content!
One of the most impressive videos I've seen. So many different types of fish... never mind the hat trick... Albies, blackfish, sea bass, striped bass, and a bluefish. Oh man.
Haha that lone roller has asthma!! Awesome to see some kayaking this fall John. Definitely is a lot going on at times in the kayak. Steller day for sure.
Great video! We were also in the sound on Sunday for the opener and a similar experience. After we ran out of crabs on blackfish and some short sea bass, we pulled anchor and started chasing the boiling schools of stripers. We noticed that there were fish under the clouds of bay anchovies on the fish finder, so we dropped squinnow jigs to the bottom and they were all keeper sea bass feeding on the bait balls from below. We caught about 10 keepers in a row with no shorts before we called it a day. Amazing day, but no albies for us.
Crabs last longest staying cool and damp but not wet. They can breathe out of water or in water , but switching back and forth uses a lot of their energy. Once out of the water, keep them out. We use a damp towel and cool as possible. Ice is ok too!
That was a crazy day if you ask me!! So many fish!!!😂 very entertaining watching you catch them. Hopefully because of your advice, this year I can get my first Albie! Great video.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Haha! Lord, that would jar my nerves as an alarm tone. No two sounds rattle a fisherman's head more than line screaming off a reel and the wife yelling your first name. Yin and Yang, pleasure and pain. Such is life. ;)
Great video. The albies are getting scarce up here in MA, but the fish that are left are big! I caught one last week that wrecked my Shimano Stradic, and I have a new high-speed Clash 2 on the way.
Wow john I'm loving it, i missed fishing since the pendamic, that was good fishing sir i wish i could be out there doing that, but I'm happy just watching you
great video , excellent action for a day on the water. Not sure if you've done a kayak walkthrough or not, but would like to see how you are set up. i'm waiting on a PA 14 360,should be getting a call in a couple weeks, also in the NE and hoping to get in on some striper and blackfish
Only Skinner can go out for Blackfish opening day and catch Albies and Striped Bass in the same outing.. oh and giant Sea Bass... and a blue fish. Holy smokes.
Hey John what’s up great video just went to the South Shore surfacing can’t believe how many weak fish I caught off the beach never been like that in a long time or within 25 to 28 inches
Hey John (or anybody) - I’m new to black fish jigging. Do you let the jig/crab on the bottom or keep them 1-2 cranks above the bottom? I had gone earlier today and my crabs were “stolen” from my jig when I kept them at the bottom. Felt a lot of taps.
you are great! ok... one last question (or at least on this video): is there a reason not to use a baitcaster (e.g, your fluke setup) for all of your bottom fishing (BSB, porgy, blackfish, etc.)?
Another Awesome video Thanks John , I honestly don’t think you find the fish , I think they find you and tell each other “ Hey I just meet the Great JOHN SKINNER “ LOL
They were so thick I tried to cast to the sides because I was afraid of one getting caught in my line. I had enough stuff in the cockpit. I didn't want to add a distressed seagull.
Hello mister skinner I’m you subscriber and I been watching a lot of you videos. You are amazing fisher. I can’t find the size regulations for albacore and bonito on Rhode Island and Massachusetts
I want my left hand on the reel handle at all times and I find that awkward with a left-handed baitcaster because I don't feel like I get leverage with my right hand below the baitcaster reel.
Really learned a lot from your video. Two questions, how do think that carbon shield rod for blackfish jig instead white rod? I know it is 7'6", too long? Second, I know you prefer spinning reel for leverage. Is that only reason? Some said that bait cast reel takes too long time to get to the bottom because of levelwind. So choosing the reel between two types is simply personal preference?
man John you put out really nice videos. I was out in Jones beach last week and not 1 bite.. you just make it look so easy!!! how come you not using your boat?
John, what time of day were you out on Sunday? I was in the mid-sound from about 11 to 3 pm and it was rough for my 21’ Parker, over 4 foot swells. It didn’t look bad where you were.
20# Seaguar Blue usually, although I was using Seaguar Premier on this trip. They really jumped on those lures. I won't use anything but Seaguar for them. It's almost a superstition with me at this point.
hello john, I've watched your videos at least 10x each video and noticed that your keep and consume fish from the long island sound, I've read that the levels of mercury in the sound are as high as the hudson river, would you care to elaborate or give your opinion or knowledge in regards to this matter, thanks john for all the knowledge that you share.
Have you ever had an albie destroy the drag washers in a reel? You'd think that reel makers would use albacore as the test dummies when designing drag systems.
I like the way he loosened the drag to make it scream. Always nobody around him. Simply amazing.

That albie strike near the kayak was outrageous...I did snicker a bit when the first limit blackfish made its way back in the water
Wow! what a day of catching.

I honestly don't know if I have seen a better fisher on UA-cam

I never seen or heard someone caught:
Bunch of stripedbass, albies,
9- keepers blackfish and 2 jumbo seabass in few hrs. That is impressive! 👍
He caught a bluefish in there too.
Great video John, as always I learn something every time I watch them. Keep them coming.
John can still make my ja drop seeing a video like this with all the different species.
Wonderful trip, John. Thanks for taking us along!

I just went on my first tog trip on Sunday. Really nice fighting fish
I like how you don't try to muscle the fish in, and just take it slow and easy, while taking your cues from the fish.
Nice video...You need some Reel Magic spray for that reel though.😂🤙🏼🎣

Bottom. That’s part of the price of jigging...got to let those little taps play out til you get the solid thump or you feel your line moving...
Thanks @jigging jerks. I wanted to make sure I was doing that correctly.
It would be great if a Fluke bite the hook! That would be the Long Island sound basket... (well... and a porgy..)
Man that reel sounded like Chewbacca 🤣
Gus yeah
thoughts on anchoring the kayak? thanks!
No problem. Do get an anchor trolley and you want to anchor off the stern so the current runs out in front of you.
Screaming real live it

I think he has a different bag. I got this one from Canyon Products around 10 years ago.
What an epic day of fishing. Have you gotten use to sitting while fishing? I always found kayaks to be such an awkward fishing platform.
For whatever reason, it just doesn't bother me.
John when you see the birds working, do you cast into the birds and the fish or to the side of them for stripers?
They were so thick I tried to cast to the sides because I was afraid of one getting caught in my line. I had enough stuff in the cockpit. I didn't want to add a distressed seagull.
if it's out there skinner will catch it
Wish I could hit ‘like’ twice.
Do you crush the barb for albies as well or only when bass fishing?
John great content! Please let me know where all on the mirage drive did you spray that lubricant?
I sprayed that stuff every place possible. I'll do it before every trip if needed. The quiet drive was one of the high points of this trip!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing agreed. I have a 2020 Outback and from time to time I get the squeak!

hey john quick question why do you choose not to use bait caster drop down rods and reels for the blackfish?
