M1 and BAR are the same caliber, however the BAR has a longer barrow that develops a greater chamber pressure = more power, but both would make short work of the water tower. also the BAR man had one or two ammo carriers.
Sorry, for all intents and purposes the M1 Garand and the BAR have barrels of the same length, the M1 is 24.98" nominal and the BAR is 24.02" nominal(Source: Militaryfactory dot com). They fired the same cartridge, the 30-06. I've shot the M1 and it's Product Improved younger brother, the M14(in the XM21 variant). Have to say I like the M1 better altho the BM39 the Italians used looks like a better rifle. Never shot a BAR but have handled them--awkward as hell. Not going to disagree about the 06's power though! It would have gone straight thru the metal of the Kubelwagen and nailed the guy with the MP40 in a heartbeat!!!
+ShastaPacificRoad They fired how many rounds and not a hole or a scratched windshield on the Kubelwagen - the Germans should just make more of them and forget panzers! I loved my Federal Ordnance M1A (semi-auto M-14) - maybe because I never had or really used an M1 (fired a few rounds from my buddy's once) and we drilled with the M-14 in JROTC.
+Davidautofull Original BARs had that but DA decided, 'in their infinite wisdom', to go with a full-auto version when it was later updated. However the rate of fire was so low that a good BAR man could 'flick the trigger' and fire off just a few shots instead of a rock 'n' roll mag dump. Guessing that by WW2 all of the BARs in Army inventory were full-auto only..., Marine and Navy inventory-no idea. I'm told that because many supposedly were converted over to full-auto only that an original select-fire BAR can command a premium on the machine-gun collector's market. Probably way out of my price range...LOL!
The BAR holds 20 rounds. How many magazines does Kirby have? And the 30.06 rounds would go right thru the wood of that water tower. And can the machine gunner miss so badly? It's like the Germans are Star Wars stormtroopers...
If the Germans are dead by the Kubelwagen, why toss the MP-40 just a few feet away and leave it? At least someone (Little John?) picked up the officer's P-38. Maybe a passing nod to policing weapons after an action? Wouldn't the Frenchman want the MP-40? OK, sorry - it's just TV...

It was sometimes hard for me watching these to strike a balance between reality and recognizing they did a really, really great job overall for producing a high volume, low budget TV show. I think they may have had bazookas in one or two episodes, but I would expect the budget and time on the set to use them would have been prohibitive. Not to mention the plot issues - if they can blast every house, shop or pillbox right away, there goes the plotline of many of the episodes! I guess my biggest pet peeves were the use of stock footage of tanks and Stukas from 1939-1940, showing Mustangs as German fighters, and leaving operable weapons all over. Others seem to have more problems with interval, use of cover, and making noise on patrol - all of which were sacrificed because it was a TV show, not a documentary or even a big screen movie. All in all, still a great show.

Production cost, pyrotechnics I heard somewhere that Vic got 10,000 an episode and that was incredible money back then, when they went to color production cost got even higher.
The M1 Garand and the M1 carbine are two very different rifles. About 2 pounds difference and the Garand shoots 30-06 the M1 carbine is a .30 caliber that’s better than the 45acp round.
This movie 🎥 is just for entertainment, but still the Production costs entailed enormous budget, so your comments are well taken, but ENJOY the Show ! With popcorn 🍿 and “food pusher”(juice, coffee ☕️ or tea 🍵, the like)📺🎥‼️

こういう低レベルの戦争映画って、ドイツ軍をわざと弱くしてるから全然面白くないです。
映画のドイツ軍って、訓練受けてない素人集団？ドイツ軍の銃には弾が入ってないの？・・・ってくらい弱過ぎる。
対等に撃ち合ってるのに、ドイツ兵ばかり被弾して、アメリカ兵とかゲリラとかには当たらない。
もうちょっとドイツ側にも戦術や兵士の能力を付けないと、不自然さばっかり目について、面白くないです。
