To me, there’s nothing more heart breaking than saying that Jesus suffering and dying on the cross for us was not enough. That we must also have some thing in addition. Kind of like Jesus + water baptism + Holy Spirit=salvation. This grieves my heart deeply. His gift to us was perfection. We need nothing else. These other things are additions to our Christian life to help us live for him and to give us strength to witness to others. Please please realize this.!!!
@@michaelk7299 He never answered the question, "will you go to Hell if you don't speak in tongues", the answer, of course, is that salvation isn't based on speaking in tongues.
Don’t miss the Forest for the trees. You may have not received the answer you are looking for, but maybe this will help. John 3:5 when answering Nicodemus about how to be born again Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. In other words you cannot enter into the kingdom of God without being baptized by water and baptized by Spirit. When you are baptized by Spirit you speak in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. Speaking in tongues is evidence that you have the Holy Spirit. Having concrete evidence that you have it is importance since you can’t make it into heaven without it. If you repent and are baptized in the Name of Jesus for the remission of sin, the promise is that you WILL receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. If you don’t have it yet, continue to seek it. Ask the Lord for it everyday, go to the altar. Seek the Lord until He gives it to you. If you truly have questions. Feel free to contact me via email at: RandallCreativeDesigns@gmail.com
It was a blessing to hear you, bro Norris, address your book; Acts 238. I bought that book for my 40 year old son for Christmas. He was a Christian and greatly used of God in Bible quizzing and church plays until he graduated from high school. He’s not served God since but listens respectfully when I talk to him about The Lord. So I’m praying that somehow your book will stir up his heart. I didn’t read the book but now I see that it’s a good choice. Praise God I believe Him for great things!
The answer is yes. As a 30 plus year member, born and raised in the organization - the UPCI believes if you do not speak in tongues you are not saved. To try to imply anything else and not say it plainly is at the very least disingenuous and frankly dishonest.
I myself was born and raised in the UPCI myself... And I concur with you! What’s worse is that David K Bernard says (and the rest of the org) is that faith isn’t real until you speak in tongues. They will literally deny the salvation of people who are trusting in Christ! Different gospel!
@Hadley Carr I been baptized in the the name of Jesus and I did not receive a gift of lounge, I know many Christians who been baptized in the name of the holy spirit who never received. Why?? Because god doesn’t give the gift to everyone even Paul said so. If you speak in tongue it’s meant to be prophecy the interpretation of speaking in the Bible by many Christians is confused. Speaking in tongues is supposed to happen when you receive a prophecy, meaning you are being sent a message by god, there must be a separate person who interprets that message or it’s not prophecy. The Bible is clear that people can fake this ability to be like others in the church who claim to have this ability but if there is not someone to interpret or a message from god it’s not prophecy. Speaking in tongues in the Bible spoken by Paul is referring to a prophecy not a form of worship. If there is no interpretation to your tongue or prophecy you are to keep it to yourself and not mislead others of a miracle when no miracle has taken place without the message
It's a wild amount of hate in this comment thread, people saying he didn't answer the question, others saying pentecostals are wrong and that tongues aren't required.. I dunno, I loved this video. Loved his detailed story telling ability. I followed every word. I felt the holy ghost as he spoke. Not to sound arrogant or condescending but I pray everyone in these comments that God will reveal truth to you. 🙏 Peace and blessings friends.
That's because he's talking in circles in an effort to confuse people w/nonsense theology. The Bible says..."But let your communication be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay: for whatsoever is more than these cometh of evil." Matthew 5:37
Andrew, it is frustrating when a pastor talks about a Heaven/Hell issue and never answered the question... he talked a lot but never made a biblical point... that's confusing, and God isn't the author of confusion.
Acts 2:38, they spoke in other languages. So if you continue to push that verse as an outline for salvation, then I expect EVERY single person in a service, who speaks in tongues, to be heard by someone who can say exactly what was being said.
I have brought this up many times. I see people speaking in tongues or other languages but who am I to know if they truly are?? Is it noise or what is it?? I feel like this is a missing link among other things.
That happened in Acts:2 but not in Acts:10. Acts 10:46 [46] For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, It happens sometimes but it’s not a requirement. Jews from every nation were there in Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost in Acts:2. Acts 2:5 [5] And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven. Jesus said all nations needed to be taught the Gospel. Matthew 28:19 [19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: What better way to spread the Gospel than to have devout Jews from every nation come experience the outpouring of the Holy Ghost and bring the good news back to their country. Makes since the plan of salvation would be given on the first day of the church to every nation. Didn’t happen Acts:19 either Acts 19:6 [6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
Paul tells us in Corinthians tongues and interpretation should only happen 2 or at the most 3 at a time. He is not contradicting what happened in acts but addressing spiritual gifts not the infilling of the Holy Ghost
Thank you Bro Norris for baring your heart. What beautiful testimonies! I’m so thankful to be apart of the UPCI and grateful for such great Brothers and Sisters of faith, like yourself. May God bless you!
That’s because he didn’t answer it. In Apostolic Oneness circles it is an implied, but absolute NO! That eliminates most of the reformation, and most of church history. But that is why they label themselves as Restorationist instead of Reformed. They want to restore the church to the Jewish church of Acts 2, back when they would go to the temple - the very same Jesus prophesied would be destroyed. Willful ignorance of Acts nature and conclusion - how the gospel went from Jews to Gentiles (Acts 28:28) has led them down this path of “restorationism”.
John 3:5 Jesus says to Nicodemus, Verily, verily (meaning truly, truly), I say unto thee, Exept a man be born of water (baptized in Jesus name) and of the Spirit (speaking with evidence of tongues), he cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
@@Mike34006 I am not looking to argue, I was also not teaching, just simply trying to help. I apologize for that. However, in the most general terms, women have always been involved in the ministry and work of God. "The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses," Exodus 35:29. Although that verse does not demonstrate a speaking role for women, there are many examples. From ancient times, women have played many significant roles in the nation of Israel and in the Church. We cannot properly interpret Paul's instruction without considering all the other defining verses in the Bible on the subject of women's role in the ministry. If we ignore the other scriptures that ALSO DEFINE the subject, we will surely be in error. We must not formulate ANY doctrine on a few verses while ignoring many other verses that address the same subject. All scriptures have to be reconciled to each other. Before we jump to the conclusion that Paul would never let a woman have a voice in church, we must face the fact that Paul himself said that "every woman that prayeth or prophesieth with her head uncovered dishonoureth her head." Aside from the issue of head covering, he gives us this evidence that women DID PRAY AND PROPHESY in the church. That was NOT silence! Their voices were heard praying. Their voices were heard prophesying. Why did not Paul demand THEM to remain silent?
@@warriorpwasw am I blind?? Because I don't see were it says about speaking in tongues? Oh, ur implying that it mentions speaking in tongues? I get it now Galatians 5:22-23 these are also evidences of the holy Spirit
Dear Lisa, In the story, around 18:30 through 18:60, somewhere thereabout, he is telling of the worship that is going on, and God's presence fills the room, and the people received the Holy Ghost as they did in Acts 10. There would be the answer if it was not a necessity, then why does God keep giving it to those who obey Him Acts 5:32? Humanity fell into sin; we are born into sin at our natural birth; in John 3:1-8, Jesus teaches we must be born again. Jesus is introducing the new birth. (being born of the water and the Spirit), we are born of God, and it is a transformation; John 3:8 requires some study, but the word (sound in The Greek language is fo-nay) is where we get our word phonics which means sound, language, or voice, so is every one that is born of the Spirit. Please contact me here if you want more information about being born again.
The answer he gives is the focus needs to be on receiving the Holy Spirit not tongues. Tongues does not save us but His Spirit does and Reverend Norris was pointing out in so many ways was to seek the experiences found in the Bible and the experience he was focusing on was being baptized by the Holy Spirit. So many today stop at believing like those in Acts 19:1-6 and in that story in Acts Paul leads those believers to a deeper experience which is the climatical experience of being baptized with the Holy Spirit. In every Holy Spirit baptism you will find in the Bible there was a outward evidence of the Spirit infilling. I encourage you to open your Bible and read the 4 locations someone was filled with the Spirit and ask how did the know they got it. And if you have learned that the Holy Spirit comes when you believe then why did the Apostles have to come in Acts 8 to pray with people who believed and were baptized to receive the Holy Spirit? (Acts baptisms can be found in chapters 2, 8, 10, 19) hope this helps
What about the man on the cross next to Jesus. He was never baptized and never prayed in tongues and yet Jesus said today you will be with me in paradise
Different dispensation some would argue /yet if Jesus said it I believe it “Today you will be with Me in Paradise” that’s good enough for me/reassurance..Blessed Assurance
The thief on the cross died while the law was still in effect during the law you had to repent and have faith to be saved but after Christ died and resurrected it all changed
The question that was asked was a doctrinal question that needed to be answered with scripture. Rather than exegete Biblical passages Dr Norris chose to tell stories, and quoted almost no scripture. Dr Norris has a great voice for narration and tells interesting stories, but no knowledge or Biblical understanding was conveyed in this video. At the end of the video his final words of advice to those that are asking this question, was to "try this out. See if God does miracles..." That is called Experience Based Salvation and the Mormons use this exact same technique. Christians should NEVER form doctrine based on their experiences. Modern day Christians should be like the Bereans in the Book of Acts who were "more noble" than the other Jews for they "searched the scriptures daily" to see if what Paul was telling them was true. I would BEG anyone that watched this video to LET THE SCRIPTURE HAVE THE FINAL AUTHORITY in all doctrinal matters of salvation and to NOT USE experiences to form a doctrine of salvation.
I believe he answered this way because there is no way for a man to answer this question. Men are not God, so they cannot tell you what WILL take you to Hell. God is merciful and a good judge. Instead, Bro. Norris chose to explain that, “God has good news for everyone.” and that we should seek the Lord with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength. The promises in the Bible are for us. This is how Bro. Norris chose to answer this question that cannot be answered by man. Our job as Christians is to teach the word God has given. We should lead people to Jesus, not in fear to His truths. Fear is not a lasting way to be saved (fear is not of God). I believe that Bro. Norris answered this in a way that Jesus Himself would have answered. He used parables. He followed the direction of our Lord and Savior.
You cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven without the Holy Spirit. John 3:5. How do you know if you have the Holy Spirit? Because you speak in tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance. Therefore, if you don’t speak in tongues then you don’t have the Holy Spirit and if you don’t have the Holy Spirit then you cannot enter into the kingdom of God.
@@timothyhaithcock1253 That wasn't the question. Watch the whole video. The title is misleading. Also, go watch the rest of his content, particularly w/ Dr. David K. Bernard and you will understand his stance. Nonetheless, it is okay for people to honor this great man of GOD.
@@kchilz32 We don’t get points for attendance. We must strive to understand the will of GOD. Both Bishop Bernard and Dr. Norris have, in times past, discussed in great detail the Holy Spirit and tongues. There is no harm in honoring them for their contributions to the body of Christ all over the world.
Ephesians 2:8-9 - 8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.
Everyone who says that they are apostolic Pentecostal or not. If you are not preaching or a teacher repentance and remission of sins you are not apostolic nor Penecostal
This is saying that you cannot earn your way into heaven by works. It’s not saying works are not essential or required. Works are a demonstration of our faith or in some cases lack there of. Read: Ephesians 2:10, James chapter 2 and Hebrews chapter 11. To see a clear picture of the relationship between faith and works. The Lord most definitely wants our acts or works of obedience.
Correct, saved by grace. Jesus died for us so there is nothing to do that as the old covenant, we had to do sacrifices for remission of sins. Now it is free. Now you need to obtain it. Like an example is, lets say we need to make one step to reach God, God is there waiting will you walk? does this considered an act? yes but it does not mean salvation is by your act, but is the act to obtain it
This was so heartfelt, broke my heart, made me want to cry😢 but I've been holding back for so long, greiving for my son that is not here any longer, and I was never angry towards God but more anger toward myself, God is good 👑🙏 I still praise and worship Him because in some way I believe it's still all about Jesus Christ.
My father died in 2020 and one of my biggest regrets in life was that I wasn’t living my life for the Lord back then. I feel like if I were I would have been able to lead my father into a relationship with the Lord. All I can do is move forward and make sure to minister to others ever chance I get.
Seeking after a sign of speaking in tongues for salvation, is not of faith, because faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen [ Hebrews 11:1 ] And without faith it is impossible to please Him [ Hebrews 11:6 ]
The Oneness is a mystery too/The Godhead is a mystery...Jesus said The Father And I Are One (Oneness) Jesus said that another would come in His Name(Holy Ghost) that’s Trinity...Some Of Our Jewish Messianic Brethren refers to the Godhead as Compound Unity...There’s 3 (Trinity)that bears record in Heaven and these 3 are One (Oneness) ...Just dialoguing
It’s not about tongues it’s about the Holy Spirit. John 3:5 Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Unless you have the Holy Spirit you cannot enter the kingdom of God. How do I know if I have the Holy Spirit or not? Because I speak in tongues. That’s the evidence the Lord gave us. Just like we are saved by grace through faith and not of works. If we have faith that faith will be demonstrated by our works of obedience to the Lord according to His Word. Faith without works is dead. It’s faith by word and deed not just word. Your works demonstrate your faith and your speaking in tongues demonstrate that you have the Holy Spirit.
Certainly agreed in most part. There are two types of "tongues" there are spiritual tongues but this does not help nothing to others, that is why it says is for the person itself. If you speak in different tongues meaning another language then yes, it does speaks to the unbelievers. But if there's no one to interpret then remain silence. Speaking in tongues is a manifestation but not necessary if you do not speak you dont have. Galatians 5:22-23 tell us the fruit of spirit
@@RandallJFeinberg a believing heart changed into the image of Christ is the evidence of the Holy Spirit, not speaking in tongues. That is a teaching of men not God and 1 Cor 12:29-31 makes that clear.
I grew up in the UPCI. I love my ex-brothers and sisters. This is the one doctrine I could not agree with. Today as a Conservative Mennonite I feel saved. But I’ll always remain close friends with the UPCI. They mean well. Our two Great holy movements have a lot in common. Some things we can simply agree to disagree on.
Greetings Bro. Norris, Have just finished reading your new book Acts 2:38, and I love the way that you laid it out with the seminar as well as the school setting along with the witnessing to the minister on the plane. As a matter of fact I'm also making my way through your excellent volume... "I AM" and I must say (though I am self educated and have read it twice), I like the way that you arranged the notes, lining up page and note numbers. Thank you for your scholarship and willingness to allow the theological expression to be on a level that, if I apply myself, I can understand and comprehend. This is my third time reading "I AM" and I am finding it much more rewarding this time around... Thanks Again, Arthur Farraway, Hamilton, Ont., Canada
I always thought the climax was the Resurrection. The truth and everything else hinges on upon this one event. Paul acknowledges this very point. For if Christ be not risen, then is our preaching vain, and your faith is also vain.
100% What this man did was 1. Not answer the question because he is afraid to say what he truly feels...that you are not saved without the evidence of speaking in tongues. 2. He is very careful to pick and choose scriptures that fit his and his religions narrative.
Scripture is so clear with this… It’s Faith we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works (Ephesians 2:8-9). Grace Alone. Faith Alone. Grace alone means that God loves, forgives, and saves us not because of who we are or what we do, but because of the work of Christ. Anything other than this is a false Gospel.
✴ _11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, 12 Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; 13 Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; 14 Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works._ (Titus 2: 11-14; KJV)
This is just saying you cannot earn your way into heaven by works, but the Lord requires our obedience and our works of obedience are a demonstration of our faith and a demonstration of the condition of our heart. Without works our faith is dead. We believe in word and in deed, not just word, but no one deserves salvation and there is no work in and of itself that can earn us salvation. It’s about relationship with the Lord and we are to living a daily walk of obedience with him. As you read the word you will see how often the speaks about the importance of our obedience. Jesus said if you love me keep my commandments. That’s an example of works of obedience. Salvation comes through a daily walk with the Lord which requires faith and true faith is demonstrated by works. Luke 9:23 KJV 23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
@@RandallJFeinberg obedience is the fruit of the gift of salvation and the love for Jesus and NOT the requirement. It’s very clear. We can’t get saved every day because of a past sin. Hebrews 10:14z
The reason we cannot say the event of speaking in tongues (languages) like in Acts 2:6-8 - “every man heard them speak in his own language” KJV is NORMATIVE or PRESCRIPTIVE is because Peter himself is astonished in chapter 11 - roughly 9 years after Acts 2… “And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.” Acts 11:15 KJV “The beginning” - he didn’t say last week at sister so and so’s prayer meeting. Or yesterday at the rally, or last month at the convention. Peter said “in the beginning” a clear indication this didn’t happen all the time, nor was it expected to happen that way. Please never forget the Spirit is a gift. NO ONE begs for a gift, we simply believe and receive. NO BEGGING. The ACTS 2 experience is: -mighty rushing sound -tongues cloven as of fire -speaking in intelligible languages others can hear And it results in the furthering of the Gospel - the revelation that Jesus is the messiah, the Son of God, whom God allowed to be sacrificed and he foreknew this. Acts 2:23 - and how the Jews were expecting a different messiah, while crucifying this Jesus as a heretic and false teacher - of this they had to repent.
You missed the context there though because Peter is not astonished that someone else is speaking in tongues, but "as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell on them, as on us at the beginning. Then remembered I the word of the Lord, how that He said, John indeed baptized with water; but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit. Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as He did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?" He was astonished that the GENTILES also could receive the Holy Spirit, not that he hadn't witnessed anyone else speak in tongues for 9 years.
@@allenwoodward9258 I think what the original comment is saying is that if speaking in tongues upon the reception of the Holy Spirit was the normative experience for all believers, then it is odd that Peter would specifically refer to the "beginning". This phrasing makes it seems like the event at the beginning was a singular experience.
Amen you are so right . SPIRITUAL GIFTS are for SPIRITUAL BEINGS including TONGUES! You DO NOT receive TONGUES to GET SAVED you get them because YOU ARE SAVED ALREADY
Were all those holiness preachers, back near the turn of the century saved before anyone of them ever experienced the "baptism of the Holy Ghost"? Those holiness preachers prayed, preached, and had bible study and prayer meetings. Some Holiness groups had healings before anyone spoke in tongues. Was Charles Parham save before the student spoke in tongues? Was William Seymour saved before he went left Texas and went out to Los Angeles?
What breaks my heart is how many other Pentecostal camps flat out completely reject Water Baptism in The Name of Jesus. We get caught up in the what came first debate. Acts 10 shows people who were saved before they were baptized yet, Peter still commanded them to be Baptized. They reject Acts 2:38 for fear of being labeled "Jesus Only". The other Pentecostal camps do these things, They pray in The Name of Jesus Lay hands on the sick and annoint them with oil...In the Name of Jesus Sing songs lifting up the Name of Jesus yet when it comes to Baptism they jump back to Matthew 28:19. That aspect I don't understand.
Here's an answer for you. There's no such thing aa Hell. Hell is a construct of Norse mythology. Kjv translators needed a word for Gehenna, which is a trash-dump, so they used Hell in its place. If you believe in Hell, you might as well believe in The Mighty Thor & The Avengers from Marvel Comics.
John 3:5 tells us we cannot enter into the kingdom of heaven without having the Holy Spirit and we know that we have the Holy Spirit because we speak in tongues. If you don’t speak in tongues you don’t have the Holy Spirit and if you don’t have the Holy Spirit you cannot enter into the kingdom of God. Keep seeking and the Lord will give it to you. And what an Amazing gift it is! Hallelujah! 🙌🏻

Next thing you're gonna tell me is that "evidence" - proving a person has the Holy Ghost - is if they pick up a snake & let it bite 'em. I'm not doing that either. "If believers truly had the Holy Spirit within them, Hensley argued, they should be able to handle rattlesnakes & any number of other venomous serpents" "The practice began in the early 20th century in Appalachia and plays only a small part in the church service. Participants are Holiness, or Pentecostals." "However, historians agree that Hensley's advocacy, leadership, and particularly his personal charisma, were important factors in advancing the Pentecostal snake handling & spreading it throughout the southeast United States."
The gift of the spirit of the Lord can't be limited to speaking in tongues .God only will do what we proclaim of him.Anyways thank you for sharing your experience here.
If you are reading this, run away from this teaching. As gentle, humble, and genuine as this man is... He is all those things and wrong. Find a Bible teacher that will bring God's word to bear on this issue. Find a teaching that will explain these passages in their context.

If I've never heard you speak in tongues then what is that to me? And vice versa also. Speaking in tongues is not salvation. It's part of salvation. Baptism isn't salvation. Very loaded title and I have yet to watch this. But there are hypcrities which speak in tongues, and relatively good people who don't. Speaking in tongues is not a ticket into heaven. This requires a life long walk with God and commitment to Him. But we receive many many benefits after receiving the Baptism of the Holy Ghost including strength to live for God and power to overcome sin. Without this there is no way we can live a Holy Overcoming life. Receiving the Holy Ghost is just the start but a necessary and mandatory one. Romans 8:9 Rom 8:9 KJV Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his.
Question NOT answered. Verses taken out of context…Holy Ghost and fire explained CLEARLY in the verses surrounding that one verse. And trust me you do NOT want the “fire”. Then Acts 2:38 does NOT mention the words “other tongues” at all. That is added in by the UPCI, who need to read about what happens to people who add or subtract from the Word of God. Then he never tells you that Jesus himself tells us the purpose of His life on earth and that is Luke 19:10 -to seek and to save those that are lost. This video was made a few years ago, but when he started in on the story-effectively evading the direct question altogether, it felt like a recent interview of a politician when asked a direct question answered “I grew up in a middle class family…” I had a woman who I kind of grew up with tell me adamantly that if all 3 steps in Acts 2:38 were not COMPLETED then you were going to hell. Period. No grace, no mercy. She tried to call in her preacher father (who belongs to what used to be called the PA of JC’s). He would not even acknowledge her attempt. Picture in your mind the last twenty people you came in contact with. If Hell is real, nineteen of those people will scream in agony forever. How does that make you feel?
The UPC believes that tongues is the initial evidence of the infilling of the Holy Spirit at salvation. So, no tongues, no salvation. In churches that push this doctrine to the ultimate degree there are seekers who fake tongus. They want to be saved and accepted so bad that they artificially produce the experience, sometimes copying what they have heard others saying.
Where can I find “with the initial evidence of tongues?” I have the spiritual gift of divers tongues but what saved me was the finished work on the cross and grace through faith in him alone. God the Father sent his Son so why do you insists the Son is the Father when Jesus said the Father was in him and also that the Father was greater than him. And if Christ said he would ask the Father to send the comforter and that he would come in my name why do you insist on calling the Holy Ghost a title? He’s the gift that comforts until Christ returns? Do you believe Jesus when he said he came to do the will of his Father who sent him and not his own? Do you believe Jesus is the Son of God?
I never heard you address the title of this video. However, tongues is scriptural but not the climax of spirituality. It’s a gift! If you don’t desire it, then He won’t pressure you. Will you give a gift to someone who doesn’t desire it? So save your breath, if you don’t speak in tongues but you are saved then that’s fine for you. Those of us that have received this great gift don’t criticize those who don’t! But it is a gift. Missionaries have used this awesome gift to minister to villages, rural areas in Africa and otherwise. It saved their lives and the gospel was rendered in a heavenly language. But you are not forced to receive this gift! Blessings!!
Well he didn’t answer the question. But I will purpose this question. How does the UPCI church get around 1 Corinthians 12? The word clearly states the Holy Spirit will give different people different gifts. It never says every person will receive the gift of speaking in tongues. The word never says but I assume those people who Jesus left to continue his church were given every gift of the Holy Spirit. The entire chapter tells how there is 1 body and different parts. Acts never says be baptized and speak in tongues. It says “Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost”. It clearly never says and speak in tongues. And Corinthians clearly states there are different gifts given. So just because those people who God poured out the Holy Spirit on spoke in tongues doesn’t mean all will because the word clearly says everyone will get a different gift.
1) Read all the accounts where people received the Holy Ghost. You will see that ALL present received the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues. Ex. Acts 2:1-4 it says ALL received the Holy Ghost speaking in tongues. It doesn't say just a few got the "gift of tongues" 2) Read 1 Cor 12-14 together, you will hear Paul say that there is a difference between tongues that edifies oneself (i.e prayer tongues) and a separate operation of the Gift of Tongues. There is the initial baptism of Spirit that all believers receive and then there is the gift of tongues/interpretation that somebody WHO ALREADY has the Holy Ghost operates in a church gathering. Same Spirit of God, just two different ways God works in an individual vs when there is a group of believers in a church gathering. Two different administrations - One and the same Spirit. 1 Corinthians 14:1-40 He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; ... Paul also instructs us to in his epistle to Pray in the Spirit. This is done by speaking in tongues that edifies ones self (what some call prayer tongues). When a believer speaks in his personal prayer tongues, it edifies himself. When a person operates the "gift of tongues" he doesn't edify himself but it is for the profit of the church that the church may be edified.
Acts 10 While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word. 45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost. **46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter, 47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, 'which have received' the Holy Ghost as well as we? Peter would not have known that they had received the gift, unless he had heard them. Cornelius: A devout man, and one that feared God with all his house, which gave much alms to the people, and prayed to God alway. Cornelius the centurion, a just man, and one that feareth God, and of good report among all the nation of the Jews, As we see Cornelius was full of Faith a True Believer, he was already living a lifestyle which was so honest and righteous that God noticed. We know he had Repented i.e. Died to his self will. But, he wasn't quite in the boat yet. He needed to Burry the old man i.e. Washed, and Resurrected -- reborn, new spirit.
@@markgenn8967 in all cases… the hearers heard them glorifying God. How did they know/hear that if they didn’t understand what they were saying? Look in the Greek originals. 1 Corinthians 12-14 “unknown” tongue. The word “unknown” is not in the original. Also, a tongue is a language. In Revelation you have people from every “tongue” same word in Greek. What the Spirit gives to each person in Acts is the ability to testify, whether it is in their language or a new language (tongue) but always so they are WITNESSES - witnessing. If you are not witnessing, then the Spirit is not using you.
What most people wish Acts 2:38 said is “you will receive the gift of the Spirit - with the evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance” but the scripture clearly doesn’t say that. Another thing the scripture doesn’t mention is whether these 3,000 who believed and were baptized spoke in tongues. Can you imagine the tumult/Ruckus hearing not just 120, but now 3,000 people speaking in new languages (Acts 2:5) would have been? But this marvel wasn’t recorded - perhaps because that event wasn’t repeated again. Imagine the ripple effect.
You remember ihave study bible verses send about it but people said God is right ihave said about Jesus Christ and said ihave faith only for God but Jesus Christ idont know so many times ihave Tiff time but I have prayers and bible verses send people's .
There are three instances only in the book of Acts to where believers recieved the Holy Spirit and what occured immediately upon them recieving is recorded, Acts ch.2,10, and ch.19. In each instance the first thing that happened was that they spoke in tongues. According to the biblical Law of Repetition the Word often repeats something three times to point our attention to an important spiritual truth.
1st Corinthians 12-15 is repeated at least 3 other times as well Also this teacher just said he didn’t like these people If you have the gift of tongues but have not love/charity you are like a clanging gong
@shannon9800 In 1Cor.12-15, Paul is saying that love and charity are important even if you have spoken in tongues. He isn't saying that speaking in tongues isn't important.
what do you do with a new comer who has never felt the Holy Spirit and watches everyone and including you and does what you are doing by immitation and says he is doing everything in the Holy Spirit just like you and he never spoke in tongues and nver prays and all he cares about is wrestling and Sports he even talks about Sports in Church and dont really listen to the Serman and Message
His eyes are not on Jesus but on the world. Maybe give him a bible study and mention how to keep your eyes on Jesus through prayer and obeying his commands.
Well if the UPCI believes in the gift of tongues shouldn't you have been able to speak to them in Russian ? I know how they felt. I speak English and I was feeling like I was on a long rabbit chase through Sherwood Forest.
Learning a language isn’t the same thing as having the gift of the Holy Ghost and speaking in tongues. An atheist can be English and learn Russian, doesn’t mean they have the Holy Ghost.
Well, that was the understanding 120 years ago, that is what Charles Parham believed. This came to be known as “missionary tongues”. But when missionaries went overseas and noticed it didn’t work, they re-interpreted tongues to mean unintelligible tongues. Look it up, this is well documented. “Missionary tongues”, “higher criticism” is the interpretation method they used. Charles Parham himself believed the reason the entire world hadn’t been reached yet was because denominations didn’t speak in tongues-other languages- to do the reaching out.
I have a whole lot to say...but I wont cause John 3 already covers this and so does Acts 2.....He knows the answer and wont say it. Tongues is part of Spiritual Birth process..no other way around it. John 3:5 kjv.
I don't think this gift of tongues is for now and I don't think believers are baptized with the holy Spirit I think that that's going to be for the very last days when we were delivered up before the Antichrist to call him out for being the fake Jesus the spurious Messiah
No, if you don't speak in tongues...you won't go to HELL . Once you're baptized in accordance to Acts 2:38, you receive the Holy Ghost. Salvation is granted through grace achieved by the practice of one's individual's faith.
False. Read about the house of Cornelius in Acts. They received the holy ghost before they were baptized. Jesus name, Father Son, Holy Sprit, its all good.

Hm5409, people in the Bible were saved before they were baptised with the Holy Ghost, you naughty oneness people make things up, things that oppose the Bible. The Apostles and disciples of Jesus were saved 40+ days before they were baptised with the Holy Ghost. The disciples in Acts 8 were saved days before they were baptised with the Holy Ghost. Paul in Acts 9 was saved for three days before he was baptised with the Holy Ghost. .The Gentiles in Acts 10 were saved just before they were baptised with the Holy Ghost. The disciples in Acts 19 were saved, they could have been saved for up to twenty years, but they weren't baptised with the Holy Ghost until they met Paul.
Did Jesus tell the thief on the cross to be baptized and speak in tongues? He believed and that was enough. There is no 3 step program to salvation. It’s simple so anyone can understand it. There is no dress code or hair code. That is NOT what the bible is about. You can NOT lose your salvation. It’s God’s gift. He doesn’t give to you and then snatch it back. You are saved by grace not works. That same grace that was enough to save you is also enough to keep you saved.
It’s funny that you people ALWAYS bring up the thief on the cross. Jesus wasn’t even dead yet, the thief was still under the Old Covenant. Of course he didn’t have to repent, be baptized and receive the Holy Spirit. It wasn’t until after Jesus died that the New covenant was put into place. We are still in the New Testament age, therefore Acts 2:38 applies to us!
Additionally, if someone willingly walks away from God and no longer believes, he obviously will not be saved! That scenario in itself disproves a “once saved always saved” mentality.
Faith without obedience to the word is not salvation faith .

Anyone who has been raised in the UPC can give you the short answer. Yes, they believe that you must speak in tongues to be saved.
What if you someone lost their tounge or isn’t able to speak

Acts 10:46

It happens sometimes but it’s not a requirement. Jews from every nation were there in Jerusalem for the feast of Pentecost in Acts:2.
Acts 2:5
[5] And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.
Jesus said all nations needed to be taught the Gospel.
Matthew 28:19
[19] Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
What better way to spread the Gospel than to have devout Jews from every nation come experience the outpouring of the Holy Ghost and bring the good news back to their country. Makes since the plan of salvation would be given on the first day of the church to every nation.
Didn’t happen Acts:19 either
Acts 19:6
[6] And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.
If there's no one to interpret should remain in silence. If we have the holy spirit we have this Galatians 5:22-23. Otherwise we do not
Paul tells us in Corinthians tongues and interpretation should only happen 2 or at the most 3 at a time. He is not contradicting what happened in acts but addressing spiritual gifts not the infilling of the Holy Ghost

I do not permit a woman to teach or to assume authority over a man; she must be quiet

The answer is found in so many places in the Bible. For one place, try Romans 10:9.
There was definitely an answer.
Lisa Wilson exactly, the same answers the others have given you... No answer

Emotions can be deceiving/misunderstood...yet when Jesus healed the sick they went away rejoicing...Just dialoguing

I always remember what Jesus said “this wicked and perverse generation seeks a sign”

No, you will not go to hell if you don't speak in tongues.

I totally agree with you I believe in what our lord Jesus did but this man did not answer the question and I wonder why
Agreed. He's more focused on birth of church, than the amazing Savior coming back and saving us from our sins!!
100% What this man did was 1. Not answer the question because he is afraid to say what he truly feels...that you are not saved without the evidence of speaking in tongues. 2. He is very careful to pick and choose scriptures that fit his and his religions narrative.
So, no answer?
The answer he gave the pastor on the plane was @26:15. And ends with him quoting Acts 2:38 to the pastor.
Tongues don’t save you Only the Blood Of The Lamb saves Of Calvary’s Cross ❤Unknown Tongue is for self-edification in the Holy Spirit ❤
But tongues is a sign your doing the right tract
Scripture is so clear with this… It’s Faith
we are saved by grace through faith in Christ Jesus and not by our own efforts or works (Ephesians 2:8-9).
Luke 9:23 KJV
23 And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.
@@RandallJFeinberg obedience is the fruit of the gift of salvation and the love for Jesus and NOT the requirement. It’s very clear. We can’t get saved every day because of a past sin. Hebrews 10:14z
This is essentially the same question I had/have as my family and I have began attending a UPC in the last year or so.
The reason we cannot say the event of speaking in tongues (languages) like in Acts 2:6-8 - “every man heard them speak in his own language” KJV is NORMATIVE or PRESCRIPTIVE is because Peter himself is astonished in chapter 11 - roughly 9 years after Acts 2…
“And as I began to speak, the Holy Ghost fell on them, as on us at the beginning.”
Acts 11:15 KJV
“The beginning” - he didn’t say last week at sister so and so’s prayer meeting. Or yesterday at the rally, or last month at the convention. Peter said “in the beginning” a clear indication this didn’t happen all the time, nor was it expected to happen that way.
Please never forget the Spirit is a gift. NO ONE begs for a gift, we simply believe and receive. NO BEGGING.
The ACTS 2 experience is:
-mighty rushing sound
-tongues cloven as of fire
-speaking in intelligible languages others can hear
And it results in the furthering of the Gospel - the revelation that Jesus is the messiah, the Son of God, whom God allowed to be sacrificed and he foreknew this.
Forasmuch then as God gave them the like gift as He did unto us, who believed on the Lord Jesus Christ; what was I, that I could withstand God?"
He was astonished that the GENTILES also could receive the Holy Spirit, not that he hadn't witnessed anyone else speak in tongues for 9 years.
Exactly!

It does not take 30 minutes to answer one question.
The other Pentecostal camps do these things,
They pray in The Name of Jesus
Lay hands on the sick and annoint them with oil...In the Name of Jesus
Sing songs lifting up the Name of Jesus yet when it comes to Baptism they jump back to Matthew 28:19.
That aspect I don't understand.

Didn't talk about whether one goes to hell without tongues. Maybe wrong title.
It doesn't say just a few got the "gift of tongues"
2) Read 1 Cor 12-14 together, you will hear Paul say that there is a difference between tongues that edifies oneself (i.e prayer tongues) and a separate operation of the Gift of Tongues.
1 Corinthians 14:1-40
He that speaketh in an unknown tongue edifieth himself; ...
Acts 10
While Peter yet spake these words, the Holy Ghost fell on all them which heard the word.
45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
**46 For they heard them speak with tongues,
and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized,
'which have received' the Holy Ghost as well as we?
Peter would not have known that they had received the gift, unless he had heard them.

@shannon9800 In 1Cor.12-15, Paul is saying that love and charity are important even if you have spoken in tongues. He isn't saying that speaking in tongues isn't important.
Amen.
what do you do with a new comer who has never felt the Holy Spirit and watches everyone and including you and does what you are doing by immitation and says he is doing everything in the Holy Spirit just like you and he never spoke in tongues and nver prays and all he cares about is wrestling and Sports he even talks about Sports in Church and dont really listen to the Serman and Message
Charles Parham himself believed the reason the entire world hadn’t been reached yet was because denominations didn’t speak in tongues-other languages- to do the reaching out.
it is all fake, the first missionaries failed horribly going to China, it is history they are trying to bury
@@arc-michaelr9580 Parham was a devil! simple history
Read, study, and some day you'll understand the levels of tongues
I have a whole lot to say...but I wont cause John 3 already covers this and so does Acts 2.....He knows the answer and wont say it. Tongues is part of Spiritual Birth process..no other way around it. John 3:5 kjv.
No answer.
not all speak in tonques 1 Corinthians 12:30
Do you even have to ASK ?? Read your BIBLE, the words of JESUS and the message of Acts (Mark 16:15-20, John 3:3-5, Acts 2:38)
Yes you go to hell if one doesn't speak in tongues
I don't think this gift of tongues is for now and I don't think believers are baptized with the holy Spirit I think that that's going to be for the very last days when we were delivered up before the Antichrist to call him out for being the fake Jesus the spurious Messiah
Apostolic s lean super heavy on Acts 2:38 but run right over Acts 10:38 and not believe the words of Peter there..
@@courtneymoore7916 @courtneymoore7916 you're wrong. Cornelius still was still required to be baptized. We're saved by faith, not by works. Bible says "faith cometh by hearing & hearing the word." Peter just told Cornelius his story about his ministry w/Yeshua Hamashiach. Bible says we're "saved by blood of the lamb & the word of our testimony. " Doesn't say we're saved by speaking in tongues. Also, baptism is the new circumcision.
