I refer back to this video often ,for I've made several of these in different sizes as well as augers.
Thank you for the video
Really enjoyed this one, not sure how I missed it last year. Ever thought about making a miniature version? maybe around 350mm
It's always weird to see wood worked with metalworking tools, like that metal lathe and grinder.
Works, though. I really dig the end result - that's a cool tool you've made.
I saw this type of drill from the past for the first time, but very effective.
Congratulations :)
I enjoy your style of video making, easy to watch .
You got a real well tooled up workshop there, some nice machines. Happy to see somebody else who respects our ancestors for the amazing skills and talents they had. I just know the vikings making long ships century's ago would be using exactly the tools you are making. Are you planning to make a full shipwrights tool kit? That would look amazing. Well done sir.
Thank you! Excellent tutorial
4:53 use the auger bit to make the auger! MIND BLOWN!
What type of steel did you use? I'm recreating the mastermyr tool chest and Don't think regular stock will be good enough.
nice Video!
Keep going!
Skål from Germany
That is a beautiful piece. I would have had to have a set of these when I was working as a Wheelwright.
Fascinating. What is the name for that style of bit? How deep of a hole can it reasonably make? Were spoon bits more or less common than these?
I was wondering how that was going to work. Very cool.
Really enjoy Your videoes.
What is that big block with the different holes and grooves called, and any idea where I could look for one?
Its a Swage block, Ebay is easiest bet or scrap yards, old farms, old schools, etc
Excellent job!
nice vid. was this a straight quench and use or did you temper the edge?
that's neat. where did you get the ideas to make the Viking items? I've been trying a Lil blacksmithing to but nothing to this extent. any suggestions to better my skills would be appreciated.
Bryant Hoblit started doing a little reenactment so thought id make a set of tools for display at some shows. The only way to get better is to keep at it, practice and repeat
I didn't know Vikings had all those power tools back then! Cool. 🙂
felicitions for good work and better than drill very nice .Continue to make us dream
Great, is this one of the mastermyr augers?
Subbed you-of course!
How much to make me a full set of augers a viking battle axe & a viking sword light & combat ready
beautiful viking age machins :-)
Excellent work! I skipped down and read some other comments and replies, and was pleased to see that you follow history as a guideline.
Do you make any tools beyond viking influence? Tapered bits, froes, adzes, bark spuds?
Not yet but they are some good suggestions il add them to the list, thanks for the feedback
Top Job!!!
Great video.
Fantastic!
اها . فكرة وطريقة ممتازة . اتمنى لكم حياة سعيدة
Very nice tool
very nice!
Que beleza essa ferramenta!
Gostei dela.
Qual o nome dela?
Eu chamaria de furadeira manual.
Gives a nice finish to the hole too. Cuts rather than shreds
Awesome
GOOD JOB !!!
Very nice video
very nice.
I have an idea!,how about doing it traditional way,no power tools, only creativity and problem solving?
I'm Bored lol, maybe if the time allows.
BorntoForge i'll talk to time to give you some time hahaha
You're bored to auger? Shouldn't it be the other way around: You auger to bore.
BorntoForge if anything, some more handtool work in just a couple spots will drastically reduce the sanding you’re doing and help protect your lungs. I switched to spoke shaves, drawknives, chisels, and planers last year. Your nose, throat, and lungs will thanks you.
good job
moar of these viking age tools pls!
Matt falconian more grammar lessons and less time on the internet is what you need now put the box of tissues and lotion away and get a life

What kind of steel are you using?
Viking Gaming a piece of spring steel
oh ok, It's really nice. Keep up the awesome work!!
Well done!
I was expecting a spoonbit auger.
Augur how to use not shown in this video.. Please send another video

Mil,Muito bom
5:00 o_0. Thats... certainly one way to use a drill press.
Boa idéia
Hello from france and sorry for my bad english ! soo ...whe can see here how the world could bee simple ..and i think thath is the probleme of humanity to bee unable to leave simplely in a complexe world soo it s the reason why people are sad and depressive ...the joy is true when you transform the matter in tools or other creative object ...it wasn't better before ...but now it s clearly shit because it s the desir that creates needs ...and we live in the age of machines ...good job to stay in the reality of what we need ...
Pffft...hold muh beer...what could go wrong. 😂
một dụng cụ thật thú vị !
liked and subscribed ;)
Nice
Shit, that works good. I wonder how it would do on hardwood
these tools are perfekt. now you can start a boat build ;-)
Que ferramenta show, se fizer um dente, corta mais.
Gayet güzel bir ahşap oyma aleti.

Ничего себе, буравчик!
Hmmmmm .Y para que sirve ?
Never heard of using a clamp with a drill press.....
Hadir👍👍🙏
Зачем столько усилий,для этого есть дрель и перьевое сверло
Beauteful Beauteful Beauteful
viking augur, sharpened on a viking belt sander
Hay
Modern back to manual
Now show us how the Vikings made it. Without the bandsaw, electric drills and lathes!
Sorry to have to tell you, but this is not a auger drill. It is a spoon drill. An auger has a spiral flute around it and is entirely different.
You are right Scott. Usually I do these types of comments. I am glad you beat me to it.
Scott Rich you mean like this? en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Post_hole_auger_1905.png
whatever, auger/spoon bit (it IS a spoon bit) the craftsmanship is excellent, cant you appreciate that instead of quibble about semantics?
Yes, it is a spoon bit, but these were called augers long before spiral fluted wood bits were invented.
What is . your resource for that claim?
HERNYA
Came out nice. I'm going to go watch Vikings on the history channel
Sen li
???
That old lathe would have been thinking, what is this shit and why is it snowing!
Common zie eint droeuk trouct habben
But you did not show us how to actually work the top part.
Just push on it or lean your shoulder in to it
huh..and all this time I thought the vikings didn't use power tools to make their tools...
He never said he was gonna make it Viking style just that it was a Viking style auger
Смысл делать инструмент викингов используя самые современные станки? Вот если бы ты такую штуку ручным инструментом сделал, то другое дело.
did the sped up band saw portion make anyone else cringe? it looked like he was trying to ram the wood through the blade lol
Забытый вид инструмента 🤔
omfg wearing long sleeves while operating a lathe is never a good idea.
Im no safety cowboy, but it can end up in a bloody mess
When the world turns black that means you're burning it Not sanding it
dostum bu işler artık tarihe karıştı biraz yenilik çi oll
* wants to see end product and scrolls through all different kinds of electric machines working on the material *.... Dude this is not authentic - _-
and you are sure they had no better way to make these im sorry but that seems like its a bit too low tech
Que tontería tan ramplona! Tienes una lijadora de banda y terminas con un flap!!
Calm down! - why not "philosophical tempo"?
This video should be titled "A Viking STYLE Auger ". I'm pretty sure that REAL vikings did not have access to electric hand tools and fully equipped work shops.
Uno
Not even 15 seconds in and I decided I can't watch this. Would have been worth watching if the speed had never been altered.
Viking auger?...are you noobs?...it isnt viking tool...it is antiquity iberian tool from 10 000 years old or more ...
