I understand you admire these soldiers. So do I - I admire them more than just about any other profession. But what part of their activities do you think 'keeps' you safe in America? Afghanistan were not a threat to the US, Iraq certainly weren't. Neither were Libya. Most of the bombers at 9/11 were Saudis - over 90 % of them. It's a more complex picture than just saying those guys keep us safe. They really don't. The thing that keeps the US safe is the overall might of the military. For any country to declare war on the US directly and try to land ground troops in the US - it wouldn't be a great idea.

Some have both but not all.. Force Recon, at least when I served had additional testing requirements and all were both jump and dive certified... Biggest difference is that Force goes MUCH further behind enemy lines to gather Intel.. Div Recon typically dont have to go long range like the Force guys... When I served the indoc for the force guys was harder as well... I've been told directly by 2 Marines who served in both Force and MARSOC, that they have nearly identical skillsets and they attend the same schools.. IMO the primary differences being chain of command, and the fact the MARSOC Marines have to be proficient in a second language... ALL THREE units are INCREDIBLY difficult... Also don't let the fact that, ON THE SURFACE, MARSOC OR SEALS or Green Beret training is more difficult due to school lengths... Most Recon guys attended the same schools, they're just not as streamlined... It usually takes 1.5 - 2 years to train a FULLY qualified Recon Marine... Approximately the same amount of time as it would any another Spec Operator.
