  • A 40-year-old man suspected in two mass shootings that left at least 18 people dead in Lewiston, Maine, was found dead Friday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. After a 1996 firearm massacre in Tasmania in which 35 people died, Australian governments united to remove semi-automatic and pump-action shotguns and rifles from civilian possession, as a key component of gun law reforms.
Australia’s 1996 gun law reforms were followed by more than a decade free of fatal mass shootings, and accelerated declines in firearm deaths, particularly suicides. Total homicide rates followed the same pattern. Removing large numbers of rapid-firing firearms from civilians may be an effective way of reducing mass shootings, firearm homicides and firearm suicides.

It's a tragedy to be sure, but I can't help but feel distracted over this newsman's voice. Why does he sounds like he always on the verge of blubbering in every news appearance? The first time made sense on account of the tragic loss of life, but now it seems like he just talks like that normally. Just seems like an odd choice of person to hire for the news... what with that voice.

When someone who has a history of trauma and is in the military or reserves and here's voices that's when doctors need to take these things seriously.
When someone is losing a grasp on reality they are not accountable for their actions that's what mental illness is and until this country stops with the prejudiced against people who look fine these things will continue.
If this man had cancer a bald head a heart attack he would get all the sympathy in the world but when you have a disease like probable schizophrenia I'm sorry but this man is every bit of victim as the people he killed.
His family knew his friends knew and the doctors knew and no one did a damn thing.
He might have done the killing but there's blood on all of their hands He should have been held against his will assessed and medicated.
When you hear voices at that point it doesn't go away and it's a known fact that schizophrenia can present itself much later in life.
Just another example of the military hospitals dropping the ball. This isn't applicable to every mass shooting but I feel very passionate about this as someone who has lived with mental illness and the stigma of people holding me accountable for my behavior when I can't control myself.
Mental illness is treatable not curable. I want everyone to hear that again You can treat mental illness but organic brain disease can never be cured.
There are going to be flare-ups, triggers and even when these people are on medication sometimes there's still a little off.
That's my feeling on this whole mess, My heart goes out to the family and my heart goes out to this man who had a complete psychotic break and then once the realization kicked in of what he did he had to end his own life.
Nobody won here and everyone lost.

Did that bowling alley not allow you to exercise your second amendment? Did they not provide the proper security if they were restricting self protection through personal arms? If so, they should be sued to no end. I’m tired of hun restricted places not even providing adequate security guards while restricting freedom.
