Broken Puppet and Dagget Designs have both taught me so much about drawing different tattoo styles. I have learned more in these videos than I ever did in my one year long apprenticeship in a run of the mill street shop. but I did get really good at scrubbing tubes and grips and bagging them for the autoclave and mopping up the shop at the end of the day. Oh and tracing flash pattern's off the wall. yes I did learn some valuable knowledge as far as tattooing along the way. But learned absolutely NOTHING about the fundamentals and building blocks of being a able to design a tattoo so that it meets the requirements necessary to be able to pick what style it was done in. You Sir thebrokenpuppet are a legend for sharing your hard earned knowledge with the rest of us.
Nicely done bro and very inspiring. I'm going through this one pencil stroke at a time to try and capture the feel. its definitely a challenge. Thankyou.
Wow..just simple but stands out.. true what you said, "contras is the key" somehow we should know how to play with colour MIX & MATCH kinda thing.. well, i used to doodling when im younger..even during school days. Not doing it that much now. But at times i do help out friend design some storage space for tools kinda stuff. Like wall mount wardrobes.thay friend is a craftsmen. So his tools is all over the place. After watching your video,it reminds me how fun it is to draw or simple do a piece. again, what type did you used for the shadding? After the grey i mean. Correct me if im wrong. Fading maker is it? Oh and my gf she just love to doddle. She got lots and lots of sharpies. Just like you artists!😂 really enjoy your video.! Cheers!
Dude thankyou so much , this is amazing. Your literally teaching me everything. I been coming back to your videos non stop. And I've learned so much. Pushing the envelope 🧠
I found your channel a few days ago, I have already drawn more than 6 drawings Thank you very much for everything! I'm waiting to try to paint this one too !!! ( you are so talented ) !
Love your videos man. Could you do a video on composition? On like when to end a drawing, for example like how to make things flow with smoke and feathering or like how to draw the top half of a body without legs and make it look good at the bottom without a harsh end? Ik that might be confusing sorry.
you basically just answered your own question. soft shading and feather it out to nothing. But the more difficult answer watch some tutorials on figure drawing and anatomy that way you can stop leaving your figures half finished and wont have to worry about hiding what you are not sure how to draw. A simple rule to follow when wanting something to "flow" think in terms of the letter S hope this helped you in your journey to become a better artist.
@@benjaminsmith5614 things like busts exists and sometimes people jus want body parts mate. I know my anatomy. Softy shading off is boring and uninspired, but mostly of the time it's works. I'm just trying to improve mate. Thanks for the S thing though I'm sure it isn't ment for all
@@b.e.z6831 actually the S thing pretty much does apply to all. Its not a actual letter "S". But that basic shape and all variations you can think of for that shape. For example smoke. If you were to draw smoke coming up around your figure you wouldnt draw one big fluffly cloud . you want it long slender and to curve near your figures body. That in itself is flow. .. As far as when to stop.. Especially with smoke. Less is more. When it comes to back ground elements because you dont want to lose focus. Of the main subject. In your case your figure drawing. And again I am just trying to share what I have learned over the last 40 years of my life in hopes that it helps you improve your art. I by no means know it all. I have a long way to go and a whole lot more to learn. But what i do know I like to share with others.
Hey thebrokenpuppet. I appreciate your videos and I would like to propose an idea/request. I have yet to see reference material or tutorials regarding the structure of or the rules of the background elements in japanese tattoos (aside from your wave video of course) for example. Those spirals in the background, what direction they have to go. Japanese clouds, rock formations, etc. It would be cool to see a tutorial that explores background elements in depth. Thank you and I appreciate your videos
found a quick vid on exactly this topic covers the elements of a traditional Japanese back ground. But as far as I know and from what I have seen there are no"rules" as to which direction the "wind bars" have to go. they don't even have to spiral if you don't want them to. But check out Dagget Designs he has a few vids on Traditional Japanese
Your awesome dude🗡 love the content I’m dedicating my life to art and tattooing especially so thank you so much 🤙🏽 my first apprenticeship starts with you🗡
Sober Joe does some good tutorials too, but I find BP does the best because he tells us why he makes the choices he makes. And the work stands for itself. Inspiring, fun and very clean designs. Love your stuff mate!
Haha that’s actually my kid lol. With lockdown I’m doing these vids from home currently so will be noises from time to time and probably a visit or two from him asking to draw with me. Definitely going to be a future apprentice of mine
@@thebrokenpuppet much appreciated. droppin a large stack on a iphone to be able to use procreate not real high on what I am sure is the majority of your audiences list of priorities. Thank you for not forgetting about us broke bastards out here.
