l do realize it's a very early design, but my God the Brodie-style helmet looks ridiculous. The Germans hit the jackpot when they came up with the Stahlhelm.
VeeEss well yea but no cause the liner chinstrap was well by its name its another chinstrap to secure the helmet to the head the soldier's decided to put it on the front of the helmet to like you said secure the liner to the shell because when the soldiers put the helmet on the shell would move and sometimes get off so they used the liner chinstrap to secure the liner with the shell
Your Stahlhelm is an M35. I have seen some people say in the comments that it's an M40 but that's completely wrong. The M40 and M42 had stamped air vents while the M35 didn't. Your's doesn't have stamped air vents which makes yours an M35. (M35 and M40 had the rolled edge, btw. Saw some people mess that up in the comments. The M42 had the unrolled edge)
Luc yea i was about to type that in the comments and the m35 is one of my favorite helmets of ww2 and i found an original for an amazing price and i forgot that it was rare so i am now excited
@M U F F the Tf2 sniper boy It has rolled edges look closely at the video. At some points the edge has rusted off but it very clearly has the rolled edge and has the welded vent holes so it's most certainly an M35.
I've often seen the m1 worn with the liner adjusted incorrectly. So an important bit to remember is that the side should cut across the middle of your ear and the back ought to cover to the bottom of your skull. Shrapnel going through the back of your skull will almost certainly be fatal and they considered this when designing the m1.
weaponsandstuff93 you many want to check out MikeB's channel where he goes pretty in depth into the history/features of different helmets and he has a store that sells a lot of cool surplus military equipment that you might find interesting.
Mike B on youtube does ballistic tests on a bunch of surplus helmets. Those are very interesting. Typically with the eastern bloc helmets, you can tell what country/year based off of the rivet placement. Mike B also goes over that as well
I wonder if the ww1/2 helmets actually helped? Did they? Also has anyone survived getting shot in the head with a pistol like it bounced off back then? Probably did but did it?
they can often deflect when hit at an angle like a glancing shot probably with a smaller calibre bullet perhaps something like the 9x19 but there are a few examples of this
@@Weaponsandstuff93 nice I'm in the process of purchasing a retro fitted German helmet. I collect mostly modern helmets from all over but do own a cork Cromwell from 1979 with full kit
i got a used Mark 6 helmet from a car boot sale for £5 with a cover it was used and from 1985 and it has a diffrent liner than your one and it doesn't seem to fall infront of my face when going prone or looking down it stays on my head pretty well.
@@Weaponsandstuff93 Swiss M71, Czech M52, East German M56/76, Yugoslavian M59(I don't know if it is the later version or not, not an expert), Polish Wz.67/75, and a French M51. Not a big collection but I like having them.

I dit got ssh40 helmet last week. Good condition whit liner and chin strap dated 1943. My friend dit giwe me good discount for it. I paid 50€+ cihping.
About the M1918 Swiss helmet, aparently from ballistic tests and shrapnel tests the helmet performs very poorly. Typically I'd say that almost every helmet can stop a 9mm to a .45, however the Swiss M1918 and M1970 (I believe that's the other one) couldn't stop a .45. Shame really, it's a cool helmet but I wouldn't take any chances with it. At least the Swiss weregood at making other things.
Hello! I've been looking for some cheap military surplus items. I have some money left over (About $50 CAD) I'm not really looking for gas mask just something cool. Thanks in advance! EDIT: I'm also not really looking for clothing unless its cool lmao
Maybe, if you want a plain one, the surplus and outdoors website has them for £7.99 and if youre close to tunbridge wells, kitmonster has them pre-scrimmed in their shop but not on their website, my one for the mk6 was £12 but i dont know how much the mk7 ones are
l do realize it's a very early design, but my God the Brodie-style helmet looks ridiculous. The Germans hit the jackpot when they came up with the Stahlhelm.
It protects the head from shrapnel so did it's job.
Well we germans loved to call the helmets Salad bowls.
How did they look ridiculous? I like the look of them
@@Weaponsandstuff93 So did the Stahlhelm.
they look better in my opinion
The "liner chinstrap" on the M1 was typically used to secure the liner to the shell. Pull it over the front brim and you're good.
Ah makes sense, I've seen photos of that.

Even though the M35 was (as far as I know) the longest in production it is the rarest and most wanted one out of the bunch, from what I've seen.

No. It was to protect from shrapnel bombs that explodes above the trenches.
I think it was a joke but yes you are right
I was issued the Mk3/Mk 4 helmet in 1979 and had it until the mk 6 in mid to
Late 80s
the German one you have is an M40 from the looks of it
Probably
It’s a M35
The second Brit helmet is Dutch post war, but repro liner will fit. German one looks like an M35. British turtle helmets are pull the dot liners.
I admire your collections.
Cheers
Don’t want to sound rude but you put the turtle helmet on backwards
Great video man. I have a U.S. M1 that's dated I believe September of 1973. It has the EDRL Vietnam era cover. I just use it for airsoft.
Cool

you should do a video of looking at the mk2 British helmet liner under a microscope and see if you can see anything dodgy
It's still got a coating on and I'm not going to cut it up.
the helmet with the hammer and sickle is a SSH-40 (I think). Love your videos. Keep them up :)
Really enjoyed this video, thank you for making it
Cheers
the 2nd helmet you showed I believe is an M197A2, the helmet the US adopted shortly after World War One just before adopting the M1 helmet
The M54 was basically the M44 which was a design of a helmet which Hitler rejected of.
weaponsandstuff93 you many want to check out MikeB's channel where he goes pretty in depth into the history/features of different helmets and he has a store that sells a lot of cool surplus military equipment that you might find interesting.
If he's the guy that shoots the helmets I've watched quite a few of those videos.
Yes, it's him.
The issue with the m1 was it was large. I have a triple reissued m42 stahlhelm original in great condition

I managed to get a German WW2 gas mask + it’s carry tin for £41 on EBay great condition, I’m soo happy 😁
Nice GM30 or GM38?
Weaponsandstuff93 GM38 I believe
be careful there was a video made that confirmed that there was asbestos inside the mask
Cool
+gasmaskreviewer do you mean filter?
22:10 part of the reason other nations don’t go with titanium is that Russia has like 80% or more of the world’s deposits of it
You should look up the Irish Vickers helmet it's roughly the same design has the German helmet
Looks a lot like the WW1 Stahlhelm, so nice design.
The brodie-helmet looks kind of hilarious but i guess it doesn't matter when shrapnels flying around .
It saves your life therefore it's good.
That one strap on the M1 pot helmet goes over the brim to keep the liner and helmet together
Someone beat you to that yesterday.
Oh ok
I think the Hungarian one you’ve shot is an M70. Great video too!
Yeah that looks like it thanks.
Brodie best helmet. Great video!
Simple and effective.
The M1 liner strap goes around the front of the shell to hold them both together.
The larger strap is to be put over the helmet and liner ie over the peak of the helmet helpt keep it to gather if the clips were worn
4:37, he's in disguise!
If you can it would be cool if u can do an American cop duty belt review with all the gear
Never really had any interest in belts to be honest, other than a few load bearing ones.
that is indeed a Mark II Brodie
I think the soviet helmet was called the M68 instead of M40
the danish one stamped with cf is c for civil (same in danish) f for defense (forsvar in danish) so civil forsvar
Ah cool thanks.
I’m a collector too!
I believe it’s a M40 Helmet. The Series wen’t M35, M40, M42.
the brodie helmet was the standard British and commonwealth helmet the whole war

In the 70s and 80s we used the MOD Mk1 riot helmet in green in NI in the Army
As in the MK4 helmet with the visor on it?
The second brodie could be post war or even an American kelly transitional helmet.
To be honest when you put the Brody helmet on you looked like you could be ww1 infantry Same the with the M1 Helmet 🇺🇸 🇬🇧
Yeah well the MK2 is very similar to the MK1 so it basically does look a lot like the WW1 version.
Nice Helmets!

The danish helmet is called m59
The CF stands for CEVIL FORSVARET
I means civil defense
Not the army
Interesting thanks
You are welcome
The liner chinstrap is for holding the liner in place👍
The only military helmet i currently have is an old russian ssh-39, it's in reasonably good condition, minus the chinstrap buckle.

VR 56 is a manufacturer mark I think not a year of manufacturing
the US is now going from the ACH (Advanced Combat Helmet) to the ECH (Enhanced Combat Helmet) which can stop 7.62X39 point blank
I really doubt that but I'm sure it's still a step up.
UA-camrs Mike B and Devin Krueger have both claimed that it can stop 7.62
You should replace the espestos with something safer

Theres companys that do that and you could probably make imitation

I’m quite sure you have the mk Brodie 2
It’s not a stalhelm if it’s Swiss stalhelms are German helmets
the Brodie was the helmet used by air raid wardens in ww2, right? Or did they use a slightly thinner variant?
There was a couple of variants, some wardens had MK1 and MK2 helmets just painted black etc, others had the Zuckerman helmet.
Brodie’s were used often in WWII. The upgraded model known as the Kelly helmet was in use quite commonly in the early years of the war.
That "M1918" is a GDR M54
the hungarian one is a copy of an ssh40 or ssh68, i believe ssh40

The secound chin strap goes on the visor of the m1 helmet its not a chin strap also they didint really use the chin strap
I've noticed the views on your videos are so sporadic
Yeah seems to totally depend if people like a certain video or not, or if Google promotes the video more than others.
I know the Brodie helmet is effective, but I just am not a fan of the design.
I love it lol, very retro
Are they screw holes or did two round go straight through the german stow (spelling?) helmet
Stahl, german for steel :)

About the M1918 Swiss helmet, aparently from ballistic tests and shrapnel tests the helmet performs very poorly. I'm not sure about the protection from the M1918, but there's a video where someone shoots an M71 with 9mm and 45ACP and the helmet stopped both.
Were the ww1 helmet liners asbestos laced?
British ones were apparently.
