It’s horrifying that people are forgotten on group dives. It has happened several times that I’m aware of. A few people were never found. It’s terrifying how many unsafe/deadly situations occur on dives.
Yeah I feel like you shouldn't go on a dive unless you are with your partner or sibling or best friend. That way they will immediately notice if you're not there. There's no way my sister or husband would forget I was there. But if the whole group is just casual acquaintances or casual friends or not friends at all and happen to be in a group together, I feel like it's a lot easier for no one to notice you are suddenly gone.
The scariest dive story I ever heard was of that saturation diver who was on the ocean floor with 0 air for over 30 mins, the dive bell was ripped away from the equipment and he sunk. He laid on the bottom of the ocean for a long time before they could reteave him and to their suprise he was completely fine when he was rescued. They think the cold slowed his bodies natural functions to a crawl and kept him alive at those depths. There are a few UA-cam channels who have covered it and there is footage of him laying motionless on the grid floor of the platform. It's terrifying to watch and hear the story. Glad the guy survived and it is still considered outside of medical science as to why he survived so long being staved of oxygen. Amazing yet terrifying. Saturation divers are another breed. Then there is the second story of the bunch of saturation divers who died, someone opened the hatch when the pressure had not equalised. You can guess what happened to them all, one of them was sucked through a hole only 9 inches around. 3 people died from rapid decompression inside the dive bell. It was very very sad and a perfect example of why safety is so important in deep sea diving. It may seem time consuming but it's there for a reason. Not a fun way to go.
The one time i've dived, every sea life I encountered was either: idling, eating another fish eyeball first, or eating another fish butthole first. I aint ever touching the sea again
My biggest fear diving is being left by the boat. Make sure you get to know the other people on the boat before the dive, that way if you do get left, people will very quickly realize you aren't on the boat. Also, do your research before booking the first boat you find, make sure they have a good track record and take safety seriously.
If this video interests you look up diving disasters on UA-cam. There's a bunch of great UA-cam channels that cover dives gone wrong with disastrous consequences. I'm OBSESSED with those channels! A lot of it is cave diving gone wrong (also they cover mountain climbing and cave exploring disasters too)
@@WhitneyDahlin I’m not sure if any other UA-cam channels, but by stalking the comments and replies along with Reddit I’ve found some super interesting personal stories I never would’ve seen otherwise.
The instructor who kept that guy from taking his mask off to throw up probably saved his life. Your first reflex after vomiting is to take a sharp inhale. Taking his mask off would have drowned him - or at least been excruciating. Throwing up into your oxygen tank filters it out for you anyway.
Sorry, but most of these were just normal dives. Stuff happens, but it's not horrifying. Since I started diving in the early 80s, I've been the one to offer buddy breathing. And, yeah, it isn't fun to puke through your regulator. But that's life. (I can talk about diving in the Red Sea at night and ending up floating off towards the Canal. It was a fun 10 or 15 minutes, while the boats picked up the other divers and then headed over for me. I think I got to all of 20 feet on that dive before we aborted, due to my dive buddy being unable to get down.)
" Hello. I am under de water. " - Divers or something idk. I don't dive.
Can confirm: I was the de water.
What???
As a diver I can confirm this is what we do
my mate steve got stabbed in the heart by a sting ray while diving

Idling is somehow the most icky

Goliath Grouper - had to look it up. I think the disinterested look on it's face would've made me laugh even as it stole my fish.
Ah it's never good when the other divers are like "Boat??"

im so afraid of depths, super intrigued, but deathly afraid.
Imo knowing I'm gonna die and how would calm me down. I'm a knower.
Its all this uncertainty crap that gives me the anxiety.
What?
I hate the thought of dying when I’m not aware of it
The ocean is both beautiful and terrifying
These stories were crazy as s***
