I’ve seen some of Eric Oldham’s pistons explode because of a ton of nitrous but in you’re case my best guess is that the ring gap was too tight and when it expanded due to heat it broke the top of the piston off.
So the motor had 30 plus hours on it. I bought it rebuilt, but they could never get it to run. So i opened it up checked everything, re-shimmed it. Never had a single issue with it until I finally gave in and let my little brother ride it. Never started after that.
@farminghuntingtrapping-fht that's what had me puzzled. I did find a picture of another JE Piston almost identical damage online but no story behind it.

@@bulldogsbrothersracingVS it’s weird that it broke where it did and fact it’s a forged piston those things are incredibly hard.
