I wrote him a letter in the middle seventies when I got out of the Marine Corp. I asked if I could assist him as a gopher, inker, etc. and got a three page letter about Rand and objectiveism. He didn't answer any of my requests about helping or learning from him (how bold I was).
Wonderful interview with a very passionate comic fan and creator. I discovered your channel just today with your Chaykin interview. Another excellent conversation. Thank you, WITS' END
The appeal of Spider-Man for me is that he's an ordinary guy at heart who can sometimes act like a selfish little punk! That's part of who he is, which is why it's so exciting when he over comes that nerdy weakness and displays tremendous compassion and heroism even at great personal expense! At least, those are the kind of stories they USED to write about! BTW it's too long to write about here but The Green Goblin reveal was what he had in mind all along! Ditko wrote about it years before he left us. The following is a memory approximation, not an exact quote, which you can probably find online: " Stan didn`t know what was in my plots until Sol Brodsky took the artwork from me; at least from issue 24 until my last issues! So there couldn't have been any agreements or disagreements about The Green Goblin!..... I had an idea who he was and even introduced a character who would be close to Peter!" I would add that Norman Osborn was introduced as a background character who became even more prominent as the series progressed, especially in Ditko's last two issues!
Great show! I really enjoy hearing people who love Ditko talk about Ditko. (duh).

I have this whole run as part of the Mighty Marvel Masterworks (The Amazing Spider-Man Vol 1 - 4)
Great episode!
Don't forget my man Stan Goldberg. He gave you color though you were color blind.
