Summertime Perch - Getting Stung!

  • Today we're out here on Lake Erie on a beautiful summer day, fishing in about 55 feet of water, using the stingnose jigging spoon and jigging for perch.
We're running the 1/2oz silver stingnose. Why so big? In the summer and fall the fish are more aggressive, especially in deep water, and the larger size will help me get down to the bottom while still be attractive to the perch.

Nice perch and video Ivo thank you for sharing. The stingnose is one great jig all winter long I got perch and walleye. And now the river is open and it is catching the big walleye. Thank you for creating it.

Great vid. I fish up in Haliburton, ONT and on my lake the perch don't get very big. Have to catch a lot to get a good meal. But in a way it's good... because if the perch don't get very big that means there's a good population of predator fish (Bass, Muskie) keeping them in check!!

The stingnose was fantastic for the few ice fishing trips I took this winter. Can’t wait to give it a shot on Lake Erie later in the year!

i didnt catch anything before using a stingnose, they really do work. i found out they get tangled if you are not using bait on the hook but that might be my jigging style.

I love fishing Eerie, especially for smallmouth and walleye! Georgian Bay / Lake Huron has some really decent perch fishing too! The biggest perch I have caught have been from ponds, though, surprisingly.

Thanks for the video. Trying to teach myself and my kids fishing. Any chance you can share the general location. I’m terrible at finding fish.

Hay Evo when I'm sting noseing for walleye and perch in Erie I seem to catch a lot sheep heads any way around that...??

..that's a tough one, as there are a lot of sheepshead in Lake Erie, but if you are getting a lot of sheepshead at a certain depth, bump out a bit deeper

What length rod and what action were your using in this video to catch the perch with the sting nose? Putting together the right rod and reel is important to using certain lures. Thx

Diedrich Penner trolling a large spread anywhere form 7’2-8’4 for bouncing I use a 7’2

...depends...for perch, you can use a 5 1/2 to 6 ft light action rod, but fro walleye or bass, you will want a medium action rod 6 - 7 or 7 1/2 foot :)

Hi Ivo.. Did you mark a bunch of fish at that location or did you just go deep and jig? I ask because I don’t have a fish finder and didn’t know if it would be beneficial to just go out and cover water with casting out and jigging back! Thanks in advance and thank you for all the education you provide for us!!

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  4 роки тому

We marked a few fish - the big schools do not seem to be around as much any more - but if you are able to mark a school, start jigging :) If they are scattered, you can drift

Are Sheepshead not edible? or just a personal thing? I lived in Michigan for a long time and fished Lake St. Clair and the rivers and really don't remember ever catching one. They say the salt water Sheephead is really tasty though cant testify to that either though!

Sheepshead are very edible and they are actually very good - most people just do not eat them.......

I've only ever heard of the saltwater sheepshead that I catch in Florida. Are these actually a related species in freshwater?? From your video, they didn't look much like Saltwater ones.
