    I’ve watched a few of your videos now and you’re clearly an expert on the helicopter systems. What I find missing though, is practical application. For example, this video provides very thorough coverage of the different AP modes and the theory of operation, but as someone new to this helicopter, I still have no clue what mode(s) I should be using during normal operations at different stages of flight. It would really help to have a video that covers what to do during taxi, take off, how best to get to your desired altitude, what is the optimal altitude?, how best to fly in cruise and at what speed, how to slow and descend for approach, with both VFR and IFR conditions and how to land. Including tips for your “whoa boy” technique. As it stands, I feel I had a great demo by an engineer, but not a pilot. 😊

      What I have learned through all my games is listen and write down the terms and then research them then return to this video when you figure them out. These guys make great video but hard to reach back to explain everything

      Firstly, this is a very good video, but at intermediate level. The FAA Helicopter Flying Handbook is free. FAA-H-8083-21B. Basic maneuvers is a good place to start. I would like to see end to end rw flight tho, with atc etc. I do believe shipmeck has done some other videos on how ap is used during each phase of flight. Good luck

      Heard, Understood, Acknowledged! Check out the series to get an understanding of what all the symbology is, what modes are and how to activate them etc. and subscribe... I will make my next video series more along what you are asking for.

    Thank you for making your videos explaining this helicopter. They've been helpful for me figuring out this heli, which is extremely different than any other I've flown.
    The only feedback I can give is to suggest maybe using a different term for hat switches. I've never heard anyone refer to them as a "coolie hat" before, and while I get the association, many people see "coolie" to be an offensive slur against Chinese people, with roots in indentured servitude. It's probably not something you've ever thought about in the context of aircraft controls, but using it might turn some people off of your instructional videos.

    • @Shipmeck
      @Shipmeck  Рік тому

      100% honest, I have never heard that term used for anything other than the 4-way trim switch. I would say that in the spirit of avoiding that terminology, hat switch is barely different and is simply omitting the overtly offensive part. I will stick to using trim switch.

    • @en0n126
      @en0n126 Рік тому

      @@Shipmeck Thanks for the response, and I figured you'd probably never heard of it before. I have only ever heard "hat switch" used, and that's not really offensive at all. I guess coolie as a slur is more prominent on the west coast where Chinese labor was common in the post-civil war days.

    I hope you'll make more video's like this one. I love flying the H145 in MSFS. and I hope to learn more from you I watch a show on tv about the UK Air Ambulance and just before landing the pilot switches auto trim off. If I am not mistaken that is the same as pushing the trim release? Is it just another way of accomplishing the same goal?

    • @Shipmeck
      @Shipmeck  Рік тому

      Not quite the same. Trim release releases the feedback springs, which disables the auto trim as a consequence. A. Trim just turns off the auto trim but the spring forces remain present.

    • @martin_b9130
      @martin_b9130 Рік тому

      @@Shipmeck thanks! I aprreciate your answer. It does make me wonder: is either way right or wrong? Is one a SOP and the other not?

    • @Shipmeck
      @Shipmeck  Рік тому

      @@martin_b9130 depends on the landing. Was the aircraft landing off site (unimproved/sloped landing site). The autopilot system will attempt to keep the aircraft attitude (pitch and roll) steady. When landing to a slope, while lowering the collective, the aircraft will naturally settle on the slope and the autopilot could interpret this as an unintended pitching/rolling motion and attempt to move the controls in order to right the aircraft. This would lead to a rollover or exceeding the mast moment.

    quick question though, when you talk about pushing the trim release button, do you mean the 'rotor trim reset' functions in the controller mappings? Does the follow up trim on the ipad have to be in cruise, hover or both?
    i can't for the life of me get me attitude to change with the release button

    • @Shipmeck
      @Shipmeck  Рік тому

      Yes. Force trim release is mapped as "rotor trim reset". If you use follow me trim in the hover position it will be more like the IRL behavior, although I still use the FTR. Make sure both APs are on, press and hold rotor trim reset button, move controls and release button, quickly allowing the cyclic to center (if you have springs)

    • @2Air
      @2Air Рік тому

      @@Shipmeck does it matter if the follow up trim on the ipad is set to cruise, hover or both?
      I'm going through the manual a couple of pages per day :)
      On page 12 of the manual it says the msfs binding for cyclic trim release is actually toggle engine 4 anti ice and that collective trim release is actually magneto 4 left.
      This adds to the confusion for me personally. Do i disregard this or?

    • @Shipmeck
      @Shipmeck  Рік тому

      @@2Air Set it to hover only. I believe you are using the version 1.0 of the manual. I don't know if toggle engine 4 anti ice is still useable for cyclic trim release. I use the "Rotor Trim Reset" and it works just fine. Do you have centering springs on your cyclic?

    • @2Air
      @2Air Рік тому

      @@Shipmeck i'll give it another go, with hover only. I am using v 1.0 and will try both toggle engine 4 anti ice and rotor trim reset again to see what the difference is. I have the VKB gladiator cyclic and it has self centering springs yes. Thanks for your help btw on this matter

    • @Shipmeck

    31:12, you don't have procedures, because you've used direct-to function. If you enter flightplan with Destination, you will have procedures. Have no idea if that is correct behaviour or not, but this is how PMS works.

    • @Shipmeck
      @Shipmeck  Рік тому +1

      I wasn't sure on that so I pulled up one in an aircraft, I was able to load a procedure without even doing a direct to. Just typed in the airport, pulled up the procedures and loaded an approach. I didn't even have reception (in the hangar) and it still let me load the approach.

      I would recommend jumping on the HPG Discord. There's a bunch of people a lot smarter than me about how the simulator works. The only thing I can recommend is to make sure the Avio Master switches are on in the overhead panel, but it honestly sounds like an installation issue.
