I love you review James, thanks for your great work, you talk with pictures, not with pixel-peeping. I like this lens, but photography wise ( i don't do video ) : - for landscape i would prefer the versatility of a second hand EF 16-35mm f/4 IS at around 500 euros. - for portrait (and that's why i finally sell it) i prefer a second hand the EF 24 1.4 II (700 euros ), while bokeh is not bad on RF, the EF has some magic powder for portrait . - for street shooting i would get the RF 35mm, because i find 35mm more versatile, while RF 24 might be a bit sharper i prefer the bokeh of RF 35. - the macro and very low weight is the most interesting aspect of this lens. I would recommand it for those who need good portrait / good landscape / good macro / in a very portable package and love to shoot wide. This is a very versatile lens for everyday use, but it's not a pro lens imo. I would buy it second hand at 500 euros max. At 700 euros this lens is overprice.
Wanna watch a comparison between 24mm 1.8 in R7 and 35mm in Canon R8/R6ii. Please make videos about R10--- there are lots of mid-level users who use R10 the most. Recently I purchased R10 with the kit which is a useless lens in vlogs and indoors. We need a fast overall zoom lens for R10/R50 with IS.
I compared the 24mm on the R7 to the 35mm on full frame in my earlier video reviewing the 24mm. I’ll definitely look into making a video about the R10, haven’t had chance to use it but would love to!
Good review. Canon is crazy with the price, it's the same casket as 35mm, heavy distortion for the half of price of 24-105 L. Probably like the rest of the new lenses it's 22mm corrected to 24mm so technically after raw conversion it will be wider depending on the program than camera jpg so for crop it may by closer to 35mm.
Yeah it's a shame to see Canon take this route, in the UK this lens is priced about the same as the new Sigma 24mm 1.4. I can live with this approach for cheap zooms or even the 16mm 2.8 but this lens feels way overpriced for the quality. Unfortunately we don't have any other native options. I may trade this in for the Sigma 28mm 1.4 and adapt it. That's probably my favourite wide angle prime. Thank you for watching Tomasz!
@@JamesReader I expect that price will drop by 1/3 in half the year, the same happened with 16mm and 85mm f2. You need to pay Canon first adapter tax first or wait patiently. Both 16 and 85 were overpriced at lunch but 16mm at least was not such expensive lens.
This lens is definitely Canons 35mm for APSC. Canon is dropping a 24mm 1.4 L and a 28mm 1.4 or 1.4 L at some point. Expect those to be flawless expect on your bank account.
Thank you!! The intro shots were a mix of C70 & R5. No LUTS on the R7 footage just colour transform to Arri LOG and then some tweaks. I do sometimes use the Phantom LUTS for CLOG 3 though for a quick grade. I find that it’s quite easy to get a nice look with the R7. Hope that helps.
No LUTs just colour space transform to Arri Log and then some tweaks, grain etc. If you’re looking for some LUTs for a similar look I would recommend the Phantom LUTs. The neutral one in particular.
@@ChicoFilmz909 check out www.joelfamularo.com/colour - I would also highly recommend Gamuts conversion LUTs. I’m hoping to release my own LUTs in the future or do a colour grading tutorial, but these products get you close enough.
Thanks for the video. I am researching on the RF24mm 1.8 Lens and I may buy it as I need a lightweight set up for travelling. I do have a 24-70mm 2.8 but it is too heavy when I am walking on the street
How was the distortion when using it for video on the C70, did you need to do post correction for the video too? Also is the autofocus quieter than the RF 24-70? Thanks
Hi, do you transcode your videos before importing the files into your project and timeline (either Resolve or Premiere Pro)? I transcoded mine to ProRes 422 HQ but I noticed some color banding and slight pixelation issues the moment I used CST (with no correction/grading) in Resolve. Resolve doesn't allow me to directly import h265 files so I had to transcode the files first. Shot using the R7 (C-Log 3). Hoping to get some advice.
Shouldnt a shorter distance to the sensor yield better lens designs why then an overpriced artficially corrected lens? Correction means you lose pixel.
hey!! this was a super awesome comparison video. it all looks amazing and your colors in video are amazing!!! I shoot Sony rn for weddings A1 and A7iv but miss my R5 I'm tossed between buying a used r5 or R6ii due to new hot shoe and unlimited video recording but I'm eh about 24 mp which truly doesn't matter too much . Cropping in camera on r5 is awesome though. What would you haha even though you have an r5
Thank you so much Marc! I have the R5 and R6 with the R6 mark II on pre order to replace the R6. I would absolutely say go for the R5 if you can, it’s the best camera I have ever used. Since the latest firmware I have not had it overheat on me again either.
Thanks for this kind of videos. I find them the most useful on UA-cam. It would be great if you could show us in a sooner video your preferred lens for the R7. Thanks!

I saw distortion in the 24mm close-up shots with the model. The 35mm looked more natural. Could you see it?
I would agree!
