"The military is our safe space" I have never agreed more and laughed at something so hard. Never would I have thought the military would be considered a 'safe space'

A friend of mine that was in the army told me *it's Republican welfare* I think he said that to make me feel better because at the time I was damn near homeless
That's funny. That is exactly what happened to me. I went to the VA for help with depression, and next thing I know I've got an ASD diagnosis. What is worse is that I told my family and my mother was like "oh yeah, they did that when you were child, we just didn't believe it". When I told my ARMY friends, they were all "oh yeah, you mean you didn't know that?".
I can relate to your story. Only after a teacher asked me if I ever got the proper support for my ADHD, after yet another failed professional education program, and got a depression, I was finally diagnosed with ADHD (ADD). At the time I was in my late twenties. It was a major relief to me to realize I wasn't just lazy or crazy, but there was actual something wrong, or better different, with me, but I still felt ‘socially awkward’. Afterwards my mother told me that she already knew (or suspected) this when I was a young boy at elementary school but didn’t think that a diagnosis would matter or could be beneficial to me. Just a little over a year ago, at almost forty, I was finally diagnosed with ASD. During a treatment for PTSD and panic attacks, the topic of ASD came up during a conversation with my psychiatrist, about the overlap between ASD and ADHD. It was as if someone turned the lights on and I could finally explain so much of all the feelings and struggles I have and am still experiencing all my life.

It's kinda 2D graph, one axis is 'tism, second is "adhd". If you're low on both axis, then you're a normie (neurotypical), the rest is a matter of exact individual mixture xD Though there's also the Tourette, OCD and Major Depression "trifecta" that's often comorbid with either 'tism or "adhd". Basically it's "brain overclock with a bag of random side effects"
you guys genuinely are the reason I'm going to get autism testing done tomorrow, thank you. the amount of shit that I've learned from y'all isn't normal people stuff that I do is astounding. cheers
My autism will pass the test. I know it. It's strong. The cycles of random hobbies AJ talked about feels so familiar. I'm the same way. Whether it's reading, getting really good at video game speed runs, writing, solving rubiks cubes. There was a time i could solve a cube in 40 seconds flat. Now I couldn't imagine getting half way through one in an hour lol im still undiagnosed but it's comforting to know there's a cause to my neuroticism. I'm 30 and have no health insurance so it's tough to even get a diagnosis.
Ok, been an AJ Wilkerson fan for a little while, about six months. This was such a great surprise and I'm glad you guys had him on. Jack is great too. Brandon, always a treat. This was a great one, even if it was kind of thrown together last minute.
The name of the Russian officer y'all were talking about is Stanislav Petrov and he was a lieutenant colonel in the Soviet Air Defense Forces. He passed away in May of 2017 at the age of 77. From what I read the Russian government supposedly tried to use him as a scapegoat for the false alarm but then didn't and that he wasn't rewarded or punished for his actions.
I’m 42 and I look like I’m in my early 30s I don’t even have grey in my beard or hair. All the guys at work that are like late 20s early 30s keeps saying “ you know we’re the same age” and I just say yup

Initially when the war started, Roosevelt considered volunteering because he personally felt that if you were going to advocate for war then you had better volunteer to fight in that war, and by this time he already had a pretty decent reputation and his expectation was that he would be an enlisted man and just thrown in wherever he was needed. A newspaper article made mention of his intention to volunteer and other journalists took the line and ran with it and his office got dumped on with literally thousands of letters from every corner of the country begging to serve in his unit and serve under him. After the war was over and he gave up his volunteer commision the rough riders gave him a bronze statue made by Frederic Remington (the Bronco Buster) and even up till his death in 1919 he would always make time for visits from former Rough Riders. When he was in command he took great lengths to memorize the names of his troopers and would really go above and beyond to make sure they had what they needed. He got reprimanded when during a training exercise in Texas, he bought the entire company beer on a hot day and he was criticized because “officers aren’t supposed to be friends with the enlisted.” When he was in Cuba he “Stole” a bunch of bean rations from the commissary because his men were eating raw bacon and hard tack. The beans were intended for officers only and if you wanted more than you were supposed to be issued you had to pay for those supplies outta pocket. Rosevelt just took out his wallet, wrote the supply sergeant a check for the supplies and left. Check cleared but it was things like that that so endeared him to his men. While in Texas, Roosevelt learned that the unit was going to be issued winter clothing because the War Department thought “well by the time they get there it’ll be winter and winter means cold.” He was so fed up he telegraphed McKinley and basically brow beat the government into issuing summer kahki uniforms and probably saved a bunch of lives from heat exhaustion wearing full wool uniforms in the tropics. Even though it was awarded posthumously he was put in for the Medal of Honor for his actions at Kettle Hill and is the only American to have both a Medal of Honor and a Nobel Peace Prize which he got for getting the Russians and the Japanese to negotiate a peace treaty for the Russo Japanese war.
As a retired Spec Ed teacher, first I am glad to hear you strong. Men talk about this. Also, exercise and structure are the best aides for male Autistic and ADHD students.
While at basic training, my saw got caked up with carbon and sand because of some rain and a little low crawling. Once we got back from our FTX, when we started cleaning weapons, I realized my saw wouldn't lock back to the rear so I put it on its stock and kicked the charging handle to the rear. It ejected a blank, surprising the shit out of me. Not a live but still one hell of a surprise!
Answering C on government tests used to be a thing. My dad was a firefighter and when I was young we got to hang out with a lot of firefighters and police officers that were ex military and the common mantra back then was "when in doubt charlie out" meaning that if you were ever struggling with a question answer c. The rumor was that if you answered C on every answer you would pass no matter what because the test was designed to be that way.
I talked to a recruiter in ‘99. Went to MEPS and took the ASVAB, scored 90+ and they tried to force my to sign a contract for 11K (Heavy Mortar). Decided to pass on that and went into IT.

A Place For My Head
It's kinda 2D graph, one axis is 'tism, second is "adhd". If you're low on both axis, then you're a normie (neurotypical), the rest is a matter of exact individual mixture xD
Though there's also the Tourette, OCD and Major Depression "trifecta" that's often comorbid with either 'tism or "adhd".
Basically it's "brain overclock with a bag of random side effects"
They saw the ASVAB, saw that he put all C's and said "yep, this is prime marine material right here".
Hearing Brandon say he hates Spectrum as I was listening to this in my Spectrum work van on my way to my next job was a bit awkward.
Ah, my Autism support group is having another session.
you guys genuinely are the reason I'm going to get autism testing done tomorrow, thank you. the amount of shit that I've learned from y'all isn't normal people stuff that I do is astounding. cheers
Brandon with the Donut PTSD at 52:24 😂😂
Directly into evil shit eating grin. You know some heinous things just went through his brain lmao
Holy shit, Eli's literally me with phone notifications 👀🤣🤣 having unread notifications kills me 😫
I’m the same way with my phone but also my work email
It's a routine.
I have to clear my notifications each night.
Send things to trash, star, or just make the unread go away.

This was my first episode watching this podcast. I'm so glad I did! Despite your warnings, I just subscribed
Welcome!
Welcome 😂 😂 You have missed a lot......Time to get to watching!!!!
The “There will never ever be another X like Y” episode by EmpLemon on him is one of my favorites
Literally got the notification for this after a day of deep diving into autism because I think I have it. I think it's the universe speaking to me.
Brandon seems to be the brand ambassador to Finance and Maneuver
They’re one of the few peeps who seem to know how a good dad hat should fit.
To what?
Haven't heard of them

I had no idea Jack was only 40. I'm like "Shit. He looks older than me and I am 52." Poor fella has some city miles on him. Love the big lunk though.
I'm 38 and he definitely looks like a decade older than me lol
I’m 42 and I look like I’m in my early 30s I don’t even have grey in my beard or hair. All the guys at work that are like late 20s early 30s keeps saying “ you know we’re the same age” and I just say yup
Loving this! I have OCD, ADHD and Tism..... the jail broke computer analogy is right on!
The push ups video needs made! I was dying about Mat Best lol
How is this the most oddly wholesome episode so far?
I have tourette's, or as my recruiter called it a "mild cold"and I find those jokes to be hilarious! Make them as often as you want, the more fucked up the better.
Damn Brandon came on this episode just to find out he’s autistic…
I’m a simple man I see a new unsubscribe podcast I click
My god! As an adult being diagnosed with ADHD and tics at 27, I’m fricking LOVING this episode!! Laughing my ass off purely out of recognission and in awe for how you guys even functioned in the armedlife❤😂
In 07 i got a full blown, low functioning, autistic 28 y/o man as one of my soldiers. He was recruited and passed OSUT at Ft knox. He didn't last long in the army. We put him out on a failure to adapt before he got someone killed.
I can't believe I didn't know about this podcast until recently. With so many guests from Vet TV where they were absolutely hilarious😂😂😂 Absolutely loved Jack in Checkpoint Charlie with Rich and the Asian kid. You guys rock👌👍

WOO-HOO! BRANDON HERRERA ON THE POD AGAIN!
Fuck yeah, I love AJs stand up and advocacy for autism. And it's always great to see Brandon and Jack. Missing Baddie, though hope he's back next week.

Thank you for introducing me to AJ. His story’s and experiences reached out and captured me. @ 70 yrs old, it set a path for me that looks like it might answer my question “Why” and “Why me” to why us.
AMAZING CONNECTION!
Gob Bless!
The way you can tell you got really good scores on the ASVAB is when the USAF shows up at your door to talk to you even tho you took it for the Army.
The awkward moment when I told em they'd have to drive to Jackson to talk to my boy and one said "mississippi?" and I chuckled.
Hey Ryden,
I think you have discovered and delivered a winning concept. Humorous, honest and concise. Your video feels like morning sunshine. My dog (Maisie) pressed repeat before hiding the remote, so she must really enjoy this one! Thank you Ryden. I hope you upload more very soon. 👍 & 🐾 Dall & Maisie (from Australia)
When Jack sits in Baddies seat and talks history, that Master Chief helmet in the back ground hits a little different 😮
And side note not going to stop watching cause y'all are helping me cope and get through this. I think y'all are amazing and I understand.thanks and keep putting out amazing and empowering content.
That moment when your stimming watching others stim 😂
My cousin, who is a nurse, is convinced I have autism. I am vehemently convinced I’m not. This keeps putting me in the loop of “I’m not autistic, I’m not autistic… damn it I might be autistic.”
how is it yall keep getting better and better. side note my my nephew is on the spectrum and as we were learning about autism the signs and behaviors my entire family looked me and we collectively decided we now understood me so much more as well and it was both hilarious and disturbing to come to the realization hmm im probably autistic but its to late now to really do anything about it.
Some of us have found a niche and learned to handle the way we are. Eye contact is still very hard but people are comfortable once they realize you know what you are doing. Customer service sucks though😂
I'm 30 rn. And I had my conspiracy theory phase in my early 20s. I don't want it to happen again in 10 years
I keep thinking Jack Mandaville is Angry Cops having a bad hair day😂
Special needs division is called the short bus platoon and guys, I was platoon lead😂 edit I was discharged for autism wish i could go back without a waiver.
Oh man you just know this one is about to go full fucking regard. 🤣
I wanted to thank y’all for not making me feel alone in my adventures with autism.
As I’m watching this, 20 minutes in…I’m learning a whole lot about myself
Thank you for sharing your laughter and thoughts with us! 🤣
This is gonna be a banger. We need these four guys and fat electrician
I got a 96 on the ASVAB, the recruiter just said "you can pretty much have any job"
So i completed all but 2 classes for college and am now a machinist. Ahh, failed potential.
I was diagnosed adhd back in the early 90's when autism wasnt really heard of but i have met so many ppl with autism and the similarities r so uncanny that i wonder if i was misdiagnosed and i legit think i may have autism
Holy crap haha I got to see AJ open for a comedy show I went to and I couldn't get a break from laughing, it was non stop.

LETS GOOOOOOO this is gonna be a good one
I talked to a recruiter in ‘99. Went to MEPS and took the ASVAB, scored 90+ and they tried to force my to sign a contract for 11K (Heavy Mortar). Decided to pass on that and went into IT.
I failed the autism test but i went positive for HIV B)
Awesome job at talking about the SPECTRUM! It was fun, educative, and just real.
I know everyone is different, but as someone who is diagnosed with ADHD and ASD as an adult, this episode was relatable and fun to watch.
You guys need to get Tom MacDonald on the podcast.
I really appreciate the light heartedness and your guys 's ability to talk about mental and physical illness. It really shines a light thank you for talking about this and bringing this conversation to light. Definitely makes me take a look at myself and maybe I can figure out why I am the way I am. I loved this episode! Being Autistic, this was the most Autistic conversation I've ever seen on UA-cam. Just all over the place, no real thread through it all, just whatever comes up and everyone enjoying themselves, being themselves, laughing and making jokes. It was great.
Do I need to study for this test before finishing this episode?
Had to go find AJ's stand up sets after watching this, thanks for showing me something new!!
