@@c2protectMan you got your moneys worth out of that bike. I saw a guy one night at our local street racing place. He had Vmax with a nitrous tank strapped on the back. I guess it was his debut run on it and he wasn’t scared of it at all. But every time he punched the throttle he had to immediately turn his handlebars fully to the right because the ass end of that bike was trying to pass the front end. And every time he shifted flames would come out of the pipes. A few weeks later I was in the bike shop and started talking about it. Turns out it was the guy. He took me in the back and there it was. I have a 1997 Vmax 1200. You asked for a list of things to do: 1. Clean and paint that engine 2. Install frame braces 3. Front engine guards/highway pegs 4. Superbrace on the front forks. 5. Double HH EBC brake pads 6. LED headlight 7. Fix the tach as there is no REV limiter on these or get one with a shift light. Did you sych the carbs after the last carb teardown? Run a can of Berrymans in the tank. Grease the swing arm pivots. LED bulbs in the turn signals/running lights/brake light. No need to re-jet the carbs because you still have the stock exhaust. Optional items: solid engine mounts and convert the rear wheel from 15" to a 17" so you can run radial tires.

I am looking at my 1999 Vmax in the garage (with Supertrapps), I am thinking of what you should do to your Vmax. Definitely put better set of springs in the front forks...it made a huge difference in the handling for me. The switch for opening the vboost from 6k to 3k rpm will not give any extra power in the mid range so don't bother. Put an LED headlight in...easier on the charging system.
Great work guys. Id love to see you put an adjustable Boost controller on the V Max. You can make the V Boost come on at whatever rpm you want then. Id also love to see a 17" rear wheel conversion, to give a much wider range of tire choices. The new exhaust sounds much better. I have an 88 VMax with 9500miles on it. It has a stage 4 lock up clutch in it, its brutal ...lol
I saw the super trapp and I thought yeah 👍🏻 that’s cool I just need the US pipes this is perfect. Then I saw the saw. Too bad guys here they are not cheap. Cheers from France 🇫🇷
I was thinking of getting Vmax instead of my Suzuki S50. Bur decided that for now S50 is all need. Was nice seeing you work on this bike. Great content!
Been there with the prior Vmax's I have had.. there is also a connection behind the coils under tape that is in part of the wiring harness that causes problems.. You can also buy a vboost switch.. some bypass it entirely or you can set it for 3k rpm instead of 6-7k rpms. Keep up the good work! Thanks for the great video's.
@@BrickHouseBuilds this connection is under the seat and behind the coils under some tape.. it’s a hidden connection. That vmax you have is really coming to life. It inspired me to do some work to my 97 max. I appreciate it. Tim
Honestly if you got the entire board out like that, I would go and re-flow every single joint on the back of that board for each through hole joint. Might as well, wouldn't even take that long.
That thing is SICK!! I love the sound of a V-Max with exhaust. Yes, that must have been the first trial v-max Submarine. Looks like it might have a bad ground in the tach display. If it works with the blinkers....kinda.
Get yourself a "Head Lamp Magnifier" for electronic troubleshooting and repair. Harbor Freight has them for around $13. It's one of those tools you will wonder how you ever did without!
Mine handles like sh__. In the curves and even crossing the center line on the 4 lane can cause the front end to do crazy sh__. I have an electrical problem, the reserve switch isn't repowering the fuel pump. Enjoyed the video BJ and RIDE SAFE OUT THERE!
I'm really liking the vmax, sure this one started out as a biohazard but it's riding now and looking a lot better. Sounds great and looks to have some spunk now also
When i first seen the bike i was like what happen to the exhaust!? Lol It was cool meeting you both at your bike night and seeing the vmax in person. Electrical gremlins are the worst. Good work chasing it down.
It was always rated as the hardest accelerating bike when it first came out. Looked like a cruiser but was a missile. Maybe it was what the cruise missles were modelled after. That exhaust is soooooo much better.
Coming from a huge love for Streetfighters and keeping up with the European scene over the decades I think you ought to make the front match the rear end. A set of upside down forks that would even out the muscular looks and better handling.
@shaneneese2447 That would be cool but unfortunately a fork swap on a vmax is very expensive and involves some one-off parts. Still undecided on what this bikes budget should be 😬
Hi BJ, hi Seth, hope you're well. I remember when the V-Max first came out. It was featured in Hot Rod magazine and everyone gushed about it. Latest version just looks brutal, but I prefer the gen1. Great video, guys. Thanks for sharing. Stay safe and keep up the awesome work. Peace. 🧔👍✌
The Super Trapps sound awesome! Glad you took the turn signal/headlight switch apart. So much gunk on this bike! The rear tire was held together with a strand of wire! Lol No wonder you are always out of gas.
Great "biohazard" video guys, love it! With regard to what to do with it next, just two words for you, TRIKE IT! The last one I was involved with, still had an inch on the throttle at 130ish miles per hour. I didn't go any fast than that as the arse end got twitchy. 😅😂🤣
I was also having a weak charge on my '81 XS1100 Special. Tried a new regulator/rectifier. Nope. My tach is not functioning which is a common resistor and culprit inline with the charging circuit from what I've researched. I bypassed it with the same results. I chased as much wiring as I could get away with without destroying the original harness. The resistances I could measure all checked out. The fuse box was original like 90% of the bike. Old glass tubes with old deteriorated connectors. So I completely replaced the block with a modern box utilizing the spade fuses. Voila! I got a progressive full charge on throttle that I wasn't getting initially. Haven't been out for a test ride, but it was running/charging when I first revived the garage find, but progressively fell short on charging. Still trying to get it registered in my new state. Everything requires a title!...That Supertrapp ...🥰
Brilliant video guys quality content as always .dam the v max sounds seriously good on them supertraps .shame about that walloper with the kerkers .thanks lads 🤟 .🏴

@@jgpatt It depends from the perspective as to what you want from the chassis. With such an amazing engine, a taut, confidence inspiring through the twisties chassis would, for me, significantly improve the riding experience. The VMax isn't renowned as a bike to get your knee down on!
I will share a cameo of my exhaust on "Tampered With". ~~~ The new name for my Suzuki 1200. ~~~. I guess if I ever get it running I'll try to work with it. Scary, it really is. On fb. You know. And so.... Thanks again for sharing all about the V Max. An education I'll tell ya. Wow. On the highway to Sturgis next year. Yea. I could see that. No problemo. 💥👍💥

@@BrickHouseBuilds Good .I apologize i didnt see that when you sat and poke around with a dentist hook on the cirquitboard. Sorry will not desturb you with more idiotic and obvious comments.
The v max red fuel light comes on it often goes un- noticed but then the motor runs out of fuel because power is shut off to fuel pump, engine sputtering gets your attention to turn to "res" (reserve). If working correctly putting the fuel switch from on to "res" will power up the fuel pumo again and get you another 25-30 miles down the road.
If I suspect problems on a board I just reflow everything. Without a microscope you probably can't see some of the cracks. Some even with a microscope are hard to see unless you are flexing and wiggling everything while looking.
I would have been tempted to just remove the exhausts and sell it to try to recoup some of that $700. I am sorry you had that happen, I've been on the receiving end of something similar. The bike sounds great with those Supertrapps 👍
@jd6549 Unfortunately stock exhaust is worthless on these bikes. A lesson was learned and there is something good coming for this bike so it all worked out!
I had 3 Yamaha Vmax’s one of them i had stainless Super Traps also, i hit a deer w one of um back in 1998, never laid it down still had $1800.00 in damage. Was seriously thinkin about a 1700 Vmax, i know they dont make them any more but maybe a good used one.
I've had my V-max since 1995, with Supertrapps installed in Singapore back then. They're awesome. The 6-into-6 Cobras on my Valkyrie are also swell as heck. Meanwhile, that Ozzie scammer will rot in hell forever.
I had float bowl gaskets swell to the point they wouldn't fit back into the groove ....was almost at the point of cutting . Did some research and discovered using a heat gun actually shrinks swollen carb gaskets.
Never use any petroleum based lube on neoprene or rubber parts (unless you really want them to grow larger). Use pure silicone grease only. Some vintage carbs you may want to "grow" dried up o rings to fit again so use the petroleum. But you can shrink them by soaking in alcohol.
Vmax - monster bike, superior job! Probably it shouldn't be given ideal exterior condition, like you do with your custom bike, it should remain a slightly sloppy hooligan, ideal in the technical part. As you said - not for the perfection, but for hooliganism :))) It's hard to imagine more suitable bike for this :)
"On this episode of rise and fall of civilizations, the settlements of the light commands" This bike really keeps on giving lol, its a shame that the yamaha logo on the sides is not a sticker because i would totally make a custom one with the same font but saying "bioyamahazzard" Still deserves a biohazzard logo sticker somewhere. Also, because of this i learned that supertrapp exausts arent just for dirt bikes and ATVs (i have one my dual sport, although its a local brand that probably copies it), they are really something else.

Was recently looking at buying a 1984 Honda V65 Sabre 1100. I decided not to as they tend to have cooling issues/not enough oil flow with the two rear cylinders. The issue causes “chocolate cams.” Kind of a bummer since it was the fastest bike in the world the years it was manufactured. There is a work around where you basically install additional oil lines and run them off the base of the oil filter. Not sure if Yamahas had that same issue but worth looking into just in case.
I've owned a few V65 Sabres over the years and never experienced any of those problems. I'd buy another if I found a good deal locally. They are comfortable and fast. :) The only problem I ever experienced was one failed voltage regulator. Don't let the internet chatter scare you away from these great bikes.

@@JoshA86 hell yeah!
I was trying to look into said switch but really found nothing beyond people talking about it and not where to get it
@@BrickHouseBuilds this connection is under the seat and behind the coils under some tape.. it’s a hidden connection. That vmax you have is really coming to life. It inspired me to do some work to my 97 max. I appreciate it. Tim
a professional once taught me to let the stuff in the tin smoke out, not shure how important this is, probably something to do with resistance
Honestly if you got the entire board out like that, I would go and re-flow every single joint on the back of that board for each through hole joint. Might as well, wouldn't even take that long.
Happy hooning, guys. Bike sounds amazing. Thanks for another awesome video
🤘🤘
That thing is SICK!! I love the sound of a V-Max with exhaust. Yes, that must have been the first trial v-max Submarine. Looks like it might have a bad ground in the tach display. If it works with the blinkers....kinda.
That tach has been bugging me. I've pulled it apart and cleaned all contacts on the gauge itself and the harness up to it.
A Diamond in the Rough 👍, the Bike to beat back in the Day , the V65 Magna was king till the VMax kicked it off the hill.
I'm really liking the vmax, sure this one started out as a biohazard but it's riding now and looking a lot better. Sounds great and looks to have some spunk now also
From funk to spunk!
First: The stator has to make good ground. Next: red thick cable next to the fusebox is a splitting cable. Sometimes this will break.....
When i first seen the bike i was like what happen to the exhaust!? Lol It was cool meeting you both at your bike night and seeing the vmax in person. Electrical gremlins are the worst. Good work chasing it down.
@@natehart31 🤘🤘
It was always rated as the hardest accelerating bike when it first came out. Looked like a cruiser but was a missile. Maybe it was what the cruise missles were modelled after. That exhaust is soooooo much better.
Dang "cruise missile" would have been the best nickname!
love all the electrical testing, thanks so much XD
🤘🤘
Love the rolling burnouts!
Hell yeah
Coming from a huge love for Streetfighters and keeping up with the European scene over the decades I think you ought to make the front match the rear end. A set of upside down forks that would even out the muscular looks and better handling.
@shaneneese2447 That would be cool but unfortunately a fork swap on a vmax is very expensive and involves some one-off parts. Still undecided on what this bikes budget should be 😬
Love those vise grips.

Peace. 🧔👍✌
New ones definitely look insane!
The Super Trapps sound awesome! Glad you took the turn signal/headlight switch apart. So much gunk on this bike! The rear tire was held together with a strand of wire! Lol No wonder you are always out of gas.
All that responsible riding!
Great "biohazard" video guys, love it!
With regard to what to do with it next, just two words for you, TRIKE IT!
The last one I was involved with, still had an inch on the throttle at 130ish miles per hour. I didn't go any fast than that as the arse end got twitchy. 😅😂🤣
Fantastic video! Thanks so much.
Glad you enjoyed!
Great job, guys
Thank you!
Ive always loved the UFO 4 into 1
They sound amazing on the old Vmax
Id love any 4into1 but just needs to be used
Great job, sounds like roaring thunder! 😊

Yeah it was a blow to the enthusiasm for sure. Moving past it
Nice high speed rear tire lol- great video

Worth experiencing!
Also, the sun is a superior source of illumination.
Love that bike good job lads👍🏻

Great, sounds awesome with the supertraps, I have ridden one of those many years ago, and when you engage warp speed you gota really hang on! 😎 keep em coming best entertainment around 5 🌟. Iam hoping to see you do something off roady type things to them old honda twins that would be great 👍. 🎉

The next thing is to sort out the chassis. Chain drive conversion helps a lot there!
I have had a 2000 for 16 years. No chassis issues. Front forks need a stabilizer and yes improved springs. Shaft drive is bullet proof
@@jgpatt It depends from the perspective as to what you want from the chassis. With such an amazing engine, a taut, confidence inspiring through the twisties chassis would, for me, significantly improve the riding experience. The VMax isn't renowned as a bike to get your knee down on!
I enjoyed this video and that bike you kept improving haha!!!
Glad you enjoyed!
Love the Vmax content brother❤

I will share a cameo of my exhaust on "Tampered With". ~~~ The new name for my Suzuki 1200. ~~~. I guess if I ever get it running I'll try to work with it. Scary, it really is. On fb. You know. And so.... Thanks again for sharing all about the V Max. An education I'll tell ya. Wow. On the highway to Sturgis next year. Yea. I could see that. No problemo. 💥👍💥

A soft toothbruch is good to have to clean contacts and circuitboards with . And metalpolich on contact stifts and polich with the bruch, a tip from an old swed.
@@kjelljohansson1799 we use toothbrushes all day. I keep like 10 on hand
@@BrickHouseBuilds Good .I apologize i didnt see that when you sat and poke around with a dentist hook on the cirquitboard. Sorry will not desturb you with more idiotic and obvious comments.
No no you're good lol. Just saying that's one of my favorite tools. We use them daily
Our low fuel sensor in the tank was beyond repair and I didn't want to pay for another used one at the rate they are.
If I suspect problems on a board I just reflow everything. Without a microscope you probably can't see some of the cracks. Some even with a microscope are hard to see unless you are flexing and wiggling everything while looking.
I put enough hours into it outside of what's shown to figure it was just bad like the pump. I tossed it
I would have been tempted to just remove the exhausts and sell it to try to recoup some of that $700. I am sorry you had that happen, I've been on the receiving end of something similar. The bike sounds great with those Supertrapps 👍
@jd6549 Unfortunately stock exhaust is worthless on these bikes. A lesson was learned and there is something good coming for this bike so it all worked out!
Great video.
Glad you enjoyed 🙏
The title for the bike you where searching for the shop was a Mad Max bike for the shop!
sounds like the pee max turned out to be a sweet bike great job to the both of you
It's definitely come around
I admire your persistence ,it does not look well made bike from factory
It's as solid as anything back then. Sure takes a beating!
I bought a 85 Vmax my first 🏍
Thats a crazy first bike!
I've had my V-max since 1995, with Supertrapps installed in Singapore back then.
They're awesome.
The 6-into-6 Cobras on my Valkyrie are also swell as heck.

I like the way you guys do business. Keep the rubber side down!
🤘🤘right on
I had float bowl gaskets swell to the point they wouldn't fit back into the groove ....was almost at the point of cutting .
@@steamer97 this happened due to carb cleaner actually....had to reclean fuel bowls after a previous carb rebuild.
It's really the perfect hooligan muscle bike. We would like to make it a bit nicer but we're not going to go crazy
"On this episode of rise and fall of civilizations, the settlements of the light commands"
This bike really keeps on giving lol, its a shame that the yamaha logo on the sides is not a sticker because i would totally make a custom one with the same font but saying "bioyamahazzard"
Still deserves a biohazzard logo sticker somewhere. Also, because of this i learned that supertrapp exausts arent just for dirt bikes and ATVs (i have one my dual sport, although its a local brand that probably copies it), they are really something else.
It definitely needs a biohazard sticker!
I can not believe the content that you produce. 💥So so Cool 💥. Oh yea. "laying rubber" very popla these days. Oh well. Ya gotta do what ya gotta do. If I had the time and money I would really like to bring my Bandit 1200 on over to you guys. 🥺 Anyway, I realized yesterday that I have not even tried to start the Bandit 1200.
When the steel tyre belt starts to fray grip will improve😂
It's a lot safer to tow, you just need a 12 foot strap. I carry one at all times.
Yup
