  • This is another in my series of oilstick paintings inspired by famous paintings and artists from art history. Today I begin a painting based on a real event in our morning routine that reminded me of a famous impressionist painting by Edgar Degas. Degas did quite a few paintings utilizing the daily morning rituals of women. I used not only that idea, but some of the compositional elements of his “Le Tub” painting. If you are familiar with the inspirating painting you will realize that I have created a rough mirror image of his original. You can follow along with this opening phase of creating this as yet untitled oilstick painting. I talk about art, art making, oilsticks, composition, color theory, and a little bit about my life with Bridget and what is going on in this image. You can see more of my oilstick paintings at www.greigleach... where you can purchase any of my artwork.
