- Scraper safety is overloked thing and there is a lot of stuff on UA-cam that is down right dangerous..... use common sense when ever you are at the lathe 😀

Just to say thank you so much for the video. As a newish turner I found this so useful and I am now able to use the scraper much more safely. Still learning but getting better results. Not only are you a fabulous turner Tomislav but you are also an excellent teacher. So many other sites show beautiful turning like yours but the beginner is then left trying to work out how to replicate what they see safely. With your videos I learn so much. Thank you again.

Thanks for sharing your knowledge. I which I had seen this (and Richard’s videos) before I converted my scrapers to negative rake. I am now going back to traditional scrapers without the fear of a catch and like the results.

I wish you had been posting videos like these 10 years or so ago when I was learning how to get big catches on bowls. Would have enjoyed not having to chase the bowls around the shop as the bounced after being torn off the chuck. Oh, well, no one was hurt so that's all right.

I see some comments about sound. For some reason I have to turn the volume way up when I watch your videos and Richard Raffins. then when I go back to others videos I turn the volume down again. Don't know why but there it is.

You are a really good instructor. I've been turning for a while, but I still like to watch good teachers. Ya know, for marketing (and maybe for profit) purposes, you could offer a video of "The Making of Your Bowl", showing the highlights of a customer's bowl being made. Cheers!

I do prefer a shear scrape for my finish cuts, both inside and outside the bowl. My main scrapers are like the one you shear scrape with, about half the width is flat/square, and the rest is swept back.. With the standard scraping cut, they do fine across the bottom of the bowl because it is flat grain and you are not going down through the grain. They are lousy for the transition and up the walls of a bowl. Pretty much the same with NRSs (negative rake scrapers). That can depend a lot on the wood though. I have seen many use a swept back grind gouge on the inside of a bowl, and call it shear scraping, which it is not. At best, it might be a NRS. If the tool is held level, and the flutes are at 9 o'clock, then a big catch generally doesn't happen. What does cause that catch is if the flutes are at 10 or 11 o'clock. No bevel rub, and a pointed edge presented to the wood..... I think that is one I haven't done. I do like a burnished burr for my shear scraping.
Hi sir, thank you for watching and comment, I do like your videos 😉..... There are many preference on smoothing surface,my aim is to show few of them.... I avoid gouge for sheer scrape on inside as people will try to copy that and in my opinion its a really bad habit since its easy to present gouge in the wrong way on inside opposed to outside..... That is my take on that atleast 🤗 I would rather see folks take one more push cut down the bowl rather then sheer scrape with gouge.... Thank you once again for support 👍

Can you describe the method used to determine the appropriate height of a bench top in order to mount a new lathe. The height of a lathe from the floor must vary according to the to the physical dimensions of the individual (height of elbow from the floor)?? Can you explain what you use?
