Prepsteaders are really firing on all cylinders this year, now that things are getting weird. This is a fantastic series and it helped to refocus me on the basics. I've always had the opinion that you guys are serious preppers but different from most other channels. Keep up the great work.
Please get a physical Bibles. So many people use online Bibles. If anything happens you will not have access to those. And if anything happens you will need the support that a Bible can provide. God bless you all
If I may suggest when doing your map exercises when you identify all your “squeeze points” or choke points on your route that you cut a small square off a sticky note and stick it directly over this spot on your map. This will visually simulate that area being blocked or impassable. With that done trace your alternate route around that squeeze point. Don’t be surprised that you might find there are no ways to get around that area. Consider it a blessing that you now know it’s there and you can figure out a completely new route to your destination. I’d rather know this ahead of time than during an emergency. 🙏
I was able to purchase area specific and state maps through AAA. I gave my family their own copies to keep on hand, along with a good boy scout compass. I love Psalm 91... And, "go out and glow". Beautiful 🌻
I am so thankful for the skills I learned while helping the scouts on learning skills, like compass, map reading, fire starting, survival camping etc. also cooking over an open fire, using dutch ovens etc. I have left the scout arena due to conflicts in my personal issues with their anti God choices, but so grateful to the skills we learned, one of my favorites was knot tying. Being prepared is a good motto for all of us everywhere! God is everything to me, and I love how you always share a portion of His Holy Word, God Bless you!
I read a book called "After the Flood" by Margaret Attwood (crazy feminist, but great author) In it, the main character Ren went from "Ark" to "Ark", places where the religious people had secreted large caches of food. She would not have made it without them. Everyone took what they needed, but left a some behind for the next guy.
That book by SB about his experience is in my Amazon list, but I had the pleasure of getting a hold of a short article by him in a newspaper. Intense. Thank you for not wearing camouflage toating you B.O.B. while filming this. You gave it a touch of reality.
Ham radio licensed operator from the Chicago area. Really good advice. I notice during some tornadoes in the midwest many local stations were just playing satellite syndicated feeds and giving no information to help the local residents. Some are now totally automated and just play computer sound files. So sad someone can't be at the stations to take calls and give out information. In these cases Ham Radio operators come and set up tents, and radios, and even hand out radios to emergency services if they are needed. We did a lot of this in Puerto Rico after the hurricane.
Hello, dear Christa, I just wanted to let you know that we have bought 4 wind-up radios which have a torch and a radio and when they are fully charged you can plug your phone into it and make a call if your phone is flat. My husband bought them on line and we are delighted with them. Thank you for making us aware of them. I just wanted to get back on here and let you know that your advice was very much appreciated. Sending love to you and your family from your Christian sister, Devon, in Australia. God bless you, sweet Christa.
Another ham radio operator here. It does work when nothing else works. Has come in handy during power outages where the phone system dies. Too bad it's not like a kerosene lantern, I don't think there are non electrical versions of the radios.
I think some handhelds can be.usb charged. I haven't programmed mine yet. I suppose in worse case, a license isn't going to matter but can listen in now. There are cheap solar chargers. Now there's USB rechargeable batteries. I use my solar chargers often during power outages. I seek out USB devices. The hand warmers are better than disposables.
Interesting timing. Checked my crank radio yesterday and the battery has finally given out after many years. Now searching for one that I can physically replace the battery if need be. Had not thought about that with the first one. Been thinking hard about the ham radio also. And thanks for reminding me about the 'world" radio. We had one when I was a kid.
??? Crank radios have batteries???!!!??? What kind of batteries?? I thought thank cranking was INSTEAD of batteries, not to charge the battery! Now I’m confused.
I wish I would have learned how to dehydrate foods and meals like a year ago! Greetings from southern California. If the SHTF today, we will survive on cans on hand.
Thank you for reminding people with these preparation. Surviving Tsunami with a complete isolated from outside world, I helped translated BBC Radio to my people back then as we didn't know what exactly was happening to us . Thanks to my grand dad's old radio.. Hold some cash in your hand, we couldn't get access to bank, ATM etc. Lucky at that time, we had food access as we lived a mix-modern life.
You have to make sure your radios are in good shape because the battery inside does age and fail so check your preps! Walkie talkies are something you can have on hand even without certification. Libraries will let you make copies of maps. I appreciate the reminder on all this.
Thank you, dear Christa. One thing we do need is a wind-up radio. Will get onto that soon. Your advice is very welcomed. God bless you and your family, Christa. Thank you for being a blessing to the world.
I got a couple lost in the woods out with walkie talkies. They were about 2 miles away. Decent range. I had to fire into the air in the opposite position I knew they were in though for them to follow the sound. It was on 140 acres of property so fairly safe. Fireworks would work too if someone is lost come to think of it. Can't forget CBs either. It was fun as a kid using them with truckers we knew. 10-4.
I finally got a radio I've been looking for : hand crank, solar, battery (non lithium), light and USB port to charge my phone. I have a small radio I've had since mid 90s (am/fm/world).
I strongly recommend maps. After hurricane Michael most whole blocks were gone, all the street signs, and a majority of the trees. My cousin, who had lived in a city for about 40 years of her life. Abe got lost because ALL the landmarks, trees snd street signs were gone. It took over two years for some areas ti gave street signs reinstalled.
I ordered a crank radio AND fire starting flint kit because of this video just now...4 extra kits for our adult kids. I'm torn about the geo caching...I'll have to really think about that. So true though that a bottle of water or matches and protein bar could make quite a difference! It's getting mighty DARK out there! 🙏❤ praying to be a light for others. I'm going to put a new testament pocket Bible in my geo cache too! Thanks so much for this!
Someone said something that realy hit the mark the other day. If we get to a place where we have entered the "zombie apocalypse", no one will be check to see if we have a ham license. Or, put another way, if you get the chance to pick one up on the cheap, do it.
Thank you. I did not know about the world radios, it is on my list along with a regular and digital compass, and how to use them properly and I will print off some Google maps of my local area and plot different routes. Things I did not really think of.
I don't think if war breaks out you'll need a license to operate that radio. I really doubt if the authority is going to come after you when the bombs are dropping and chaos is going on.
I have a crank radio with NOAA. Also 2 compasses and just got a compass from an app on my phone. There are many to choose from in the play store on Google. Two I tried didn't work well but the 3rd was excellent. Be sure and try them out and learn how to use them. As I've said before, you can download the Selco book for free on the internet. 149 pages. Great series Christa. Thanks! I bought an excellent laminated Rand McNally map of South Carolina from Amazon for $7.95.

You lack wisdom..I will pray for you... God doesn't want to us to live passively in FANTASY LAND, BUT IN REALITY!! you obviously do NOT SEE THE GIFT THAT IS IN FRONT OF YOU.. don't be soo religious but BE REAL.. that is what a SOUND MIND IS... would ya NOT AGREE?? sometimes a person's created religion ( on of their own making ) will be delusional.. it is NOT THE REAL JESUS CHRIST , THE GOD OF TRUTH when you have nothing to OFFER but name calling someone who is WALKING IN WISDOM- pushing fear is WHAT YOU ARE EXEMPLIFYING by NOT WALKING IN TRUTH & WISDOM, but willful IGNORANCE.. God will spit you out his mouth..
Be saddened at your own willful ignorance & arrogance for ASSUMING that you should NOT prepare to the best of your ability, so you won't suffer anymore than you had to or anyone in your family... this is what FALSE RELIGION does to people- they become unrealistic and without wisdom to ACT- they become paralyzed and then try to gaslight others who are walking RIGHT before the LORD. the LORD calls that witchcraft, which is rebellion toward God...
One thing that came to mind is possibly getting a bicycle. It can not only be faster transportation, but it can be fairly easily rigged to run a small generator; power plus exercise.

I’m from England Lela and I have lived in Florida for thirty years, so happy here. One of the things on my bucket list was to visit Oregon because i was told inEngland it was a beautiful place. Last year I finally got to visit and saw a hundred waterfalls with my girlfriend. I was not disappointed absolutely breathtaking scenery. Sorry had to say when I saw you were from Oregon.
Christa. I was thinking about how to get home if there is a blast, and I'm blinded by the flash. If walking, I'd have to walk home by knowing my area so well, I'd know the grass verges, trees, fences and street furniture.
I have a hand crank radio, but I never even considered maps; good advice. I don't have any cached items, either.. This is something I really should think about.
Today I helped a prepper friend get veg plantlets from the garden centre. I gave her jumbo tealight candles, and potassium iodine tablets for radiation.

What do you recommend for a ham radio? Most seem to be slaved from ChyNa. It's very confusing for someone who knows nothing about them

Solar Power Radio, Hand crank Radio
One Thing I would change is the Hand Crank Radio to a more regular battery operated transistor radio.
While the Hand Crank version seems okay, I have my doubts about its rechargeable battery. Li-ion batteries will not last in storage for extended periods. So the utility of it being ready to go when needed, or able to recharge your cell phone is not something I would count on.
But whatever gear you plan to store, you MUST try it out before hand, under realistic conditions. Try recharging its battery using its crank. How long will that take to recharge via the crank after, say, recharging your cell phone following one day's use? Is it actually viable? Also understand that in an emergency situation, time available for cranking up a battery may be limited.
(Note: Some hand crank radios store a small amount of energy in _capacitors_ (that do not have a storage issue) so you do need to crank frequently, just not continuously. I do not know if the crank-radios with the Li-ion battery have that capacitor storage capability. If they do not, then you might need to crank continuously once the Li-ion battery stops holding charge.)
_My preference would be_ for a small battery operated transistor radio where you can keep the batteries separate (also for your torch and other gadgets) and refresh them every so often. But whatever you do, you must also try them out.

Hello there!
