There was no question who I hoped to book for Episode 100. Thankfully he agreed. I can’t thank Rick Clunn enough of such a open & honest conversation. Thank you all for your support each & every week. You guys built this show to what it is, Thank you all. P.S don’t forget to Like & Subscribe 😉👍
I doubt Mr Clunn remembers but many years ago I was a coangler at an open on Table Rock. I was walking down a dock carrying all my gear and Rick was getting interviewed by someone on the same dock as me. He stopped his interview and helped me load all my gear in my pros boat. Dude is a class act and earned my respect.
Rick is a modern day philosopher..every word out of his mouth holds my attention..not because of his accomplishments but his pure genuine ness.. great episode
I had the fortune to be a co-angler in his boat on Lake Champlain back in 2007, when the Elites still had non-boaters. His focus and awareness of everything going on around him was just incredible - I had heard about it, but seeing it in person was just awesome. Nonetheless, he was truly gracious all day to me and just a real gentleman.
What a show Dave. Rick was my guess and he sure did not disappoint . I’m 70 and I could sit and listen to him for hours. Thanks for sharing him with all of us.
I am commenting before the end….. but I’m cheering for Clunn to go deep!!!! I’ve watched a few of his interviews and I just want to hear his wisdom. I love hearing this guy talk and explain things. I learn about fishing and way more about life and how the universe works and also how we should be thinking and conducting ourselves. Geese I could listen to him everyday. I WANT TO HEAR EVERYTHING MASTER CLUNN!!! Thank you so much Dave this is going so well so far and I’m only halfway thru!!
All I can say is wow! One of my childhood heroes and without question one of the greatest of all time. But your right Dave his mind is fascinating! I mean what other elite series angler would even consider writing an article on momentum? It's also pretty evident the regard he hold Johnny Morris. I have always listened to anything I can find on Mr. Clunn but this is a whole different level. Thanks Dave for bringing another legend into our lives
Thanks very much James, Rick is truly an incredible man. I learn from him every time we talk. It’s awesome to hear so much great feedback about him and his beautiful mind. Thanks for watching
This right here is exactly what I needed to hear. Rick Clunn is the man! I got so much out of this show I’ll absolutely be thinking more how he explained. Trust the instincts and immerse yourself in nature
Amazing Dave I'm so glad you were able to het Rick on your show. There is not a lot of interviews out there with Rick. He is truley unique and a gift to the fishing community . I was actually on the edge of my seat listening , and whats funny when I realized it I looked at your face and noticed that you were too.🙂 This man has wisdom we can all benifit from. I know I have. Thank you so much.
Thank you, Rick Clun, for sharing your viewpoints on professional fishing, nature, and life in general. I am 55 and a 3rd generation owner of a lake home on Lake of the Ozarks in Missourah. My grandfather bought the property 29 years after the dam was built. I, too, tournament fish. Strictly as an amateur. My day job is an Electrical Engineer. The older I become, the more I appreciate the sacrifices my grandfather and father did to keep our place at the lake. I have 3 childen and 4 grandchildren. Like my grandfather and father, I try to teach every aspect of fishing, values and live in general to them. I have followed B.A.S.S. since your first classic win. You have persevered through your career and are truly an ambassador to our sport. I play and follow golf as much as fishing. Your story is similar to Ben Hogan's life and career. May the rest of your time in this lifetime provide you with good fortune and peace. Dave Mercer, thank you for providing a venue that allows others, including myself, the opportunity to learn more about the professionals in the sport that we cherish and promote to others. You did an excellent job in presenting your questions to Rick and were a very good listener. Some of the down to earth stories Rick shared remind me of several times I have personally spoken to a few of our area professionals in the Ozarks such as Denny, Guido, Dion, and Payton. I have seen Dieon launch the Chevy wrapped boat at the Gravois ramp, then walk down to the courtesy dock with a plastic bag of crappie jigs and lead heads in the spring. I didn't see any bait casters on the front deck.
The most informative podcast on fishing and real life access to the power of the mind I have ever listened to. I would like to hear Rick and Mercer again. Cool 😎 work Dave one of your best
I could not thank you enough. You did a excellent job . I never stopped listening I actually hit rewind a few times even though I herd what was said . This episode is without a doubt my favorite one so far and I have truly enjoyed a lot of what you have dune so far . You where ment for this . Keep them coming please and thanks again for the hard work you put in . 👏👏👏👏🏆👏👏👏👏
I want to go back! Great interview! Thanks for a great show. And thanks to Rick for all the memories over the years. He's the man. Congrats on the 100th show. Keep up the great work.
Dave Mercer, First off, congratulations on episode 100! I can probably say that I've either watched, or listened to (Spotify) each one. Thank you for each and every one of them. Now, concerning episode #100, I thank you for having the "Zen Master" Rick Clunn on your show. He's always been one of my favorites, if not my favorite. Not gonna lie Dave, I've listened to it twice and saved it to hear or watch again. Thanks for everything Dave!
Thanks very much Steve, this is the only show I have ever watched back twice. The best part is I learn something new every single time. Thanks for watching and supporting the show.
Congratulations on the 100th show Dave! Thank You Rick for talking to us all for 2 hours. Thank You Melissa for sharing Rick with us. I enjoyed every minute of it.
What an inspiration, I have so much more respect for Rick after this. I feel like this episode was created for me. I will watch it again just like you said. Thx Dave.
Congratulations on show 100. Really took so much from this interview just like all the others. "Praying is talking to God, meditating is listening to God." That's something that will always be with me. Great show Dave. Here's to many more...
If there ever was something as psychological and mental candies, well, that podcast would be a truck load of it. Dave I'll say it times and times again your podcast is a marvel but this one with Rick is something to witness. Thanks for doing all you do and done. Cheers and hope to see you again at a show somewhere between Ottawa and Toronto!
Thanks very much, I truly appreciate the kind words. Rick is a amazing man with a incredible mind. The world needs more like Rick Clunn. I enjoyed every minute of this conversation & I look forward to having many more with Rick in the future. Thanks for watching
Great conversation with Mr. Clunn. He is truly a living legend. Every time he shares his thoughts on life and the human mind is a master class. Mount Rushmore of fishing Ray Scott, Virgil Ward, Rick Clunn and Forrest Wood . Kevin Van Dam, Bill Dance, Roland Martin, Hank Parker, and Denny Brauer could all be on there as well. This sport is just incredible. A man like Mr. Clunn to praise the young anglers is refreshing. Too many of the anglers who have been around for 20 or more years seem bitter. Rick Clunn, Larry Nixon, Roland Martin, Hank Parker, and Bill Dance are always so positive about the young anglers. Mr. Mercer would love to see Hank Parker on your podcast. His story and how he got started is an incredible story. From being a high school drop out to a two time Bass Master Classic Champion. God Bless.
Thanks James, when Clunn speaks I always listen & always learn. You are right about his attitude towards young anglers. It’s so refreshing. Thanks for watching. I will check into getting Hank in the future
Congratulations on the 100th episode Dave!! Between Mr. Rick being on and finding out the Classic is coming back to Oklahoma next year, it’s been a good week!!!
Ok Mercer ! Just recently found your channel. Only watched maybe 5 shows and I’m hooked. Really enjoyed your conversation with Mr. Clunn. As a lifetime member of B.A.S.S. and turning 76 years young in a few months, I kind of grew up with the old guard. I still have my 7’ retractable fiberglass Rick Clunn Crank’n Rod made by Diawa. Congrats on 100 conversations.
Thanks Shane, It’s crazy how many knowledge nuggets are in this conversation. It’s one of the few podcasts that I re watched after recording it and I learned even more. Rick Clunn is incredible
I know everyone says KVD is the goat, but this guy right here… you hang on every word he says. I’m in awe every time I hear this man speak. Maybe I’m having a fanboy moment but I can’t help it. Anytime this man opens his mouth, you listen!!!!
Congrats on 100th show. Great interview. I loved his answer and thoughts on Forward Facing Sonar. Don’t think I have heard a better explanation or affirmative answer towards it.
The fact that The Clunn went out of his way for you, really shows how amazing you are at what you do. I know you don't like to toot your own horn, but you are an exceptional conversationalist sir! Congrats!
as a kid who grew up in the ozarks he really tugs on my heart strings. I'd love to hear you say Clunn gets it done in 23 dave, love his view on scope and well really everything tbh... what a great show mercer
Tremendous interview, Dave and Rick! Some of the dates mentioned are a little off, but that's certainly understood. I'm hoping to see you both again, if the Elite Series returns to South Dakota.
I was one of those 35 boats that watched Rick .I have never seen anyone catch fish on a crankbait like he did in that tournament with the exception of David Fritts .He has always fascinated me as an angler . However he has fascinated me much more as a man and human being . He is more developed as a man mentally and a human being spiritually than most on the planet . One of a kind ! The Einstein of bass fishing !
Thanks Craig, it’s great to hear you enjoyed this episode. I definitely enjoyed this conversation. It’s one of the few podcasts that I have ever recorded and actually gone back and watched. Watching it a 2nd time I learned even more. Rick Clunn is truly a wealth of knowledge.
Congratulations Dave on #100 ❤! Almost Speechless BUT “ don’t give the answer BUT provide me the method to find the answer “ !!! PRICELESS!! I guess I shouldn’t be surprised but I don’t fully understand why no one else picked up that NUGGET! AGAIN, this was PRICELESS!!!!!!!!!!!
When I was kid. My friends had football and basketball guys as there “Hero’s” “Rolemodels”. I had Rick Clunn and the BASS pros of the late 70’s early 80’s. There pictures cut from BASS magazines on my walls. Clunn is from Houston, Texas.
Someone once said of country music, "It's a couple of cords, and the truth.". So is Rick Klunn. A man of wisdom, very down-to-Earth, and a part of the people that are the salt of the Earth. And in being the person that he is, he has accumulated a professional fishing record second only to the great KVD. There's nothing shameful about being an outdoorsman. And I am glad Mr. Klunn finally felt that way sometime before the end of his career, walking into the Bass Pro Shop in Springfield, Missouri. The others that may have told him in the past to stop practicing for a tournament in some canal in Florida should have otherwise picked-up a rod and reel, instead of a golf club all of the time. Maybe they could have gained some wisdom, like Klunn did by doing so, by participating in a sport that is as old as time itself.
Congratulations on 100 episodes Dave... And way to bring a real living legend out for 100!! Now you've got a problem, you set the bar so high.. from here where do you go ,🤔!! UP BABY THATS WHERE.. ALWAYS UP!! 😂👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 CONGRATULATIONS AGAIN ON 100 EPISODES! ✌️
@@factsoffishingwhen he said John Cox, my heart warmed. Rick is 100% right. John is pure as heck and is so intensely focused and positive. So unassuming. Rick is very insightful for a guy with so much to look back on.
One day this will all be gone just like the dinosaurs. The Blue Trophy is actually finding out a way to live your life doing what you love. Great interview Dave!
I fished a Bass master open on Lake Toho. When I was pulling my boat after day one Ish Monroe and Rick Clunn were there. Ish started talking and naming all the wins Rick had. Which were amazing and took a while to do. But when he was finally done Rick said “I also won the BFL all American”. It surely was a fun moment.
Had to take a break to watch BTL man it was funny so that's why I'm commenting at 11:30. You need to tell Matt not to do Wednesday night shows 4hrs. of Y/T can kill a mule. Good show Rick is awesome. 👍👍👍👍👍.
Thanks William, that’s why we don’t do this show Live that way people can watch it whenever. I listened to Pangers show this more some great stories on that one
Episode 100? The big deal was Rick His incite into life is amazing. Some of us older guys know things via experience, but can always learn. As with all humanity, we always have something to learn and teach. God bless you all.
Wow ! I feel like I owe some $ Here to Rick for a collage course * Wonder how long it takes him to eat his dinner ? If he dissects all the food on his plate ! Anyway that was awsome! Thanks so much dave ! And thanks Rick for a life lesson ! Wish this was 5 hrs longer ! Peace !
Thanks John, I totally agree, every conversation I have with Rick I always learn something. I am sure we will have Rick back on in the future. I have watched this episode twice and I learn something new every single time.
GOAT for sure. Saw him sleep on a picnic in freezing conditions. When asked about this. Reply was to work on body being able to stand cold cold weather
Ric Clunn, the best thier ever will be. He has always been a very different man who saw the need to acclimate his body to nature. Most off the time, you had to watch very closely. I saw him wearing sandals in very cold weather. I put on 2 thick pair of socks and sandals. Caught some flack at launch. My feet were cold. Just remembered Ric, so continued on. Feet cold. First stop, feet NOT SACHKING! Feet not distracting me! Solved a problem I'd been having all cold weather events. Thanks Ric
Always so full of wisdom. Bassmaster has a century belt for breaking 100 lbs in a tourney. Should make something for fishing professionally for 1/2 a century. I don’t care who you are, that’s a feat. Doing it day in and day out, thousands of casts, if not millions, a year plus traveling takes a physical toll. There are people half his age that can’t keep up. Get ‘r done Rick.
Hey Mathew, I would assume it’s on bassmaster.com but I had a quick looks & can’t find it. I will let you know if I find it in the future. Sorry I can’t be more helpful
I never realized how philosophical Mr Clunn is. What a beautiful way of thinking. I’m an engineer and have a brain fitting for the job lol all logic, no philosophy 😂
There was no question who I hoped to book for Episode 100. Thankfully he agreed. I can’t thank Rick Clunn enough of such a open & honest conversation. Thank you all for your support each & every week. You guys built this show to what it is, Thank you all.

After watching this episode, I now know where Rick lived most of his life... on the water. Thanks for providing directions.
I am 71 years old and a lifelong fisherman. That has to be the best fishing b-day tube video I have ever seen, by far. Thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it!

Thanks very much Wayne, Rick always delivers some incredible info. I listened back to the podcast myself
This is the only fishing podcast that I have watched twice!!! Awesome material in this one that applies to so much more than fishing.

Wow that’s super cool. Thanks FunkE
Great show. You've now had most of my childhood heroes on your show, Dave. You just need to get Roland Martin and Hank Parker on to round out my list.
Thanks Scott, those would both be great shows. See what I can do in the future
Congratulations on your 100 show but to get Mr. Rick Clunn dropping jewels is utterly amazing

Thanks James, You nailed it Rick Clunn truly has a beautiful mind
Wow Dave. You nailed it for #100. Such an intriguing man to listen to. I will be replaying again tomorrow to take in more of his thought process. 💪🏻😎
Thanks Jim, This one was easy, who else can do show 100
I too will be listening to this one again
I have never heard an interview like this with Rick Clunn before. I think he may be my favorite fisherman now.
Rick is a truly amazing man
Very well conducted interview!!!

Bassmaster Elites needs to come back to Truman Lake Mo.
I totally agree Rick is the 👑. Truman would be a cool event
@@factsoffishingThe Legendary Rick Clunn brought up Patrick Mahomes.
@@phoenixw2w we never got a chance to talk about it on this show but Rick is a giant Chiefs fan.
Rick clunn #1 hall of fame on being a great guy
👍👍👍
True fishing electronic's have changed the sport in a positive way.
Such a refreshing take on electronics
@@factsoffishing Yeah electronic's have come along way.
Best bass fisherman of all time. 🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣🎣
👑 Clunn
@@factsoffishingwhen he said John Cox, my heart warmed. Rick is 100% right. John is pure as heck and is so intensely focused and positive. So unassuming. Rick is very insightful for a guy with so much to look back on.
One day this will all be gone just like the dinosaurs. The Blue Trophy is actually finding out a way to live your life doing what you love. Great interview Dave!
Thanks Blake, Ricks mind is amazing
I fished a Bass master open on Lake Toho. When I was pulling my boat after day one Ish Monroe and Rick Clunn were there. Ish started talking and naming all the wins Rick had. Which were amazing and took a while to do. But when he was finally done Rick said “I also won the BFL all American”. It surely was a fun moment.
As a newcomer who actaully doesn’t bass fish, this convo wasn’t deep at all……It was simply genuine, and it was awesome!
Rick clunn is a damn legend dude still going at it hard alot respect for him 👍 rick has what I call a beautiful mind id love to fish with him
Rick definitely has a beautiful mind
Had to take a break to watch BTL man it was funny so that's why I'm commenting at 11:30. You need to tell Matt not to do Wednesday night shows 4hrs. of Y/T can kill a mule. Good show Rick is awesome. 👍👍👍👍👍.
Thanks William, that’s why we don’t do this show Live that way people can watch it whenever. I listened to Pangers show this more some great stories on that one
This was awesome bro!
Thanks it’s so easy with Rick
Fantastic podcast Dave.
Episode 100? The big deal was Rick His incite into life is amazing. Some of us older guys know things via experience, but can always learn. As with all humanity, we always have something to learn and teach. God bless you all.
Thanks for watching Greg, It’s hard to believe but yes it’s already episode 100. Every conversation I have with Rick I learn
great interview
Great show Dave, if Rick Clunn is for forward facing sonar, I think that ends the argument.
Hey Rob, That’s a really good point! Thanks for watching.
I called this!! The goat!!
How could it be anyone else
GOAT for sure. Saw him sleep on a picnic in freezing conditions. When asked about this. Reply was to work on body being able to stand cold cold weather
"Fishing is for all of us" abso freakin lutely!!!
So many great lines and quotes. A conversation with Rick always seems like a lesson in life
Another good one but l am wondering why Rick is giving our planet only another 1000 years.
Next time i will ask him
Ric Clunn, the best thier ever will be. Thanks Ric
Just watched the Rick clunn episode…. Wow!!! Insert mike drop here.
Thanks Shane, it was a truly wonderful conversation
Always so full of wisdom. Bassmaster has a century belt for breaking 100 lbs in a tourney. Should make something for fishing professionally for 1/2 a century. I don’t care who you are, that’s a feat. Doing it day in and day out, thousands of casts, if not millions, a year plus traveling takes a physical toll. There are people half his age that can’t keep up. Get ‘r done Rick.
Thanks for watching Steve, I think that’s a great idea. I am sure we will do something next year for season 50
The GOAT!!
Ya he is
Hey Dave, where can we find Rick’s articles he mentions pls & ty.
Hey Mathew,
I would assume it’s on bassmaster.com but I had a quick looks & can’t find it. I will let you know if I find it in the future. Sorry I can’t be more helpful
@@factsoffishing thank you Dave
Rick Clunn called you a good angler, I know that felt good to the ego. haha! Great show Dave.
Here’s to 100 more, Dave. 🍻🍻🍻
You talked him into it!
I went over his head 😂
I never realized how philosophical Mr Clunn is. What a beautiful way of thinking. I’m an engineer and have a brain fitting for the job lol all logic, no philosophy 😂
Rick truly has a beautiful mind.
