Klasse! LG! Henry
One thing I noticed you are not wearing a hat from experience it is always good to wear a hat so that you do not get Sun Stroke in certain clubs around Europe it is compulsory to wear a hat for this reason enjoy your flying I use to fly from Gutersloh military airfield in the late 1980's
Hi Craig, I know and you are absolutely right. Usually I'm always wearing a hat. This time it was in one of the leg pockets of my cargo trowsers. I actually just wanted to do a short round. Take off, two circles, land. But I couldn't resist the unexpectedly good thermals. After 60 minutes I was back.
FLARM does get our attention quickly, doesn't it? I thought that the other pilot was very polite to call you, but perhaps mistaken when he called you "Junior", as this is visibly not the case. 🤣
@@henryluebberstedt7819 45 years with gaps, for career, family ... Just fly as much as you can while you can. I figure I've probably got another 10 years flying.
Why did Flarm scare you? It seems to have done exactly what it is supposed to do and alerted you to the presence of a potentially conflicting glider that you weren't already aware of. It will also have alerted the other pilot joining your thermal to your presence, if he had not already seen you, or, if he had seen you, to modify his approach to the thermal and to make radio contact.
Well for me its a scary situation when all of a sudden someone pops up on your 5 - 6 o'clock on collision course. You don't see him, you don't know what he is doing. Many deadly glider accidents happend in such situations.
@@henryluebberstedt7819 The scary thing is that without Flarm you might both have been unaware of each other until it was too late. You responded to the Flarm alert exactly as intended by looking out until you spotted the other glider - i.e. as a prompt to see and avoid.
Nicely filmed. It's always a bit worrying when a thermal gets busy - particularly with other aircraft at a very similar height.
sehr schön gefilmt und da fliegt ein guter pilot! liebe grüße vom aeroclub Bexbach

In my club, you´re not allowed to fly for 2 hours if you take off your hat

Haha, thats true I'm not a Junior anymore but the plane is called "Junior". He didn't know who was the pilot so he adressed the plane. :-D
@@henryluebberstedt7819 in fact, I've been gliding 45 years, so I'm not a junior either.
@@lautoka63 45 years! You are blessed! So many times i thought why I started so late with gliding. (well I know why: career, kids, family... :)
