FINALLY! A gyro that looks as good as an eflite controller!!! You guys truly are amazing and a blessing to the hobby. You are getting people into the hobby again when I thought it was dying off
In general a great series. One or two items could have been made a bit clearer - I don't think I missed it, but I don't think it's mentioned that the unit has to be powered up WHILE depressing the bind button for the satellite receiver to go into bind mode. If you're starting and stopping the video as you go you also may lose site of fact that the unit has to be in set up mode to set the 6 axis mode. However, I installed it and set it up in my Flitetest Corsair and it seems to be working well. The way it remembers your sub-trims, allowing you to set the transmitter back to zero (do that before you exit the trim mode) is REALLY cool and will allow for much better trimming once flying. Can't wait for the corona virus to clear. Firstly so that our friends and family stop getting sick and dying, and then down the road to start flying again (our field has closed).
Beautiful system to start flying with flight controllers. Inav has steep learning curve. The Aura 5 system gives the basic principles of a flightcontoller fixed wing setup more attention. Big thumbs up for this development! Sincere Flitetest product.
This Aura5lite completely met my expectations and I have to say that I'm pretty much impressed about it's performance and ease of use. I already have 3 of them. The first one in a FT mini Arrow (fiberglassed) and now the 3rd one in an E-Flite Habu STS.
Just got mine in today and already installed it in my fpv pusher. It was super easy to setup and switch directions on stuff. It worked exactly like it did in Josh's video. Im ready to fly tomorrow but I'm worried about watching the next video first.
Hi Josh. I"d like to share a simple (and i believer a fool-proof) way to verify the operation of the stabilizer. With the stabilizer on and you're holding the nose of the model, tip the plane so the right wing goes up. The right aileron should go up. Tip the plane so the left wing goes up. The left aileron should go up. Holding the plane level, tip the plane so the tail (horizontal stab/elevator) goes up. The elevator should go up. Standing at the back of the airplane, rotate the tail to the (vertical stab/rudder) goes to the right. The rudder should go to the right. If the surfaces don't respond that way when the stabilizer is suppose to be active, you have a problem to be fixed. Those control surfaces that didn't respond as outlined should be reversed. If you doubt it, think about it..
Great controller. I tested it in an FT Explorer, worked fine, then I had to put it in my Extra 330S... making a great plane even better. I have yet to fully configure 6-axis mode since 3-axis is more fun. The PC based config tool works well enough, aside from having to write to the board before any changes take effect. Mount the board so that the bind button can be easily reached if a re-bind is required.

I decided to do a reset as per your UA-cam video using the config tool and convert option it’s said it went well and an orange led on the a5l lit briefly but. Hey Josh. Thanks for this video. Can you do a video like this installing and adjusting the Tactic Wise Gyro? Any idea why when everything is plugged in and working my elevator stick moves the elevator, and ailerons as well. Trust me, everything is plugged in place. Have 2 ailerons on a y harness and plugged them into both aileron ports with no luck. My dang elevator moves elevator and ailerons, my ailerons move by themselves like they should when only using my aileron stick. So weird
Does anyone know how to enable "Bank Limit Assist"? I have the latest firmware and newest aura config tool. I see level assist and launch assist, but not bank limit assist.
It's a neat unit, but I don't like Flex's trim feature. Sure, it lets me quickly center the trims on my transmitter, but it leaves my servo arms off center which could result in unequal throw. It's better to adjust the clevises until you're able to center the trims on the transmitter. The OCD in me wants my servo arms square with the pushrods..
This is the same condition you will get if using transmitter subtrim. If your plane is carrying trim, as noted, you are free to mechanically adjust the linkages... Also, If you want it perfect.... Use the Aura Config Tool first to subtrim the arms to perfectly perpendicular, then mechanically adjust the surfaces to the correct flight position. Of course it is made easy out of the 'box', but there is no limitation here to make it perfect!!! :) Heck, you can even use quick trim (no PC needed) to subtrim the servos to the best position before connecting the control surface linkages, then mechanically make the surfaces correct!! Aura is OCD friendly!! :)
Using the transmitter trim levers to mechanically center the servo arms and then using quick trim so that you can put the transmitter trims back to center would be ok. That way, you wouldn't have to manually adjust the subtrims in the Aura..
That 10 second stick hold for swapping direction had better be only before the first prop power up. Otherwise doing lots of rolls or loops in a row might be a problem. If it’s every time the throttle is down then gliders next ware. Oh wait. I think I missed a mode switch step that would protect it just fine.
As noted elsewhere, this is only when the special setup mode is enabled (by a long press of both buttons)... NOTHING while in the normally booted flight mode (orange+green LEDs) :)
Do very confused what are bind buttons in unit for ? SO it automatically goes into bind mode. IM having a terrible time inc paperwork is very confusing
You MUST be pressing the Aura's Bind button (at least I had to) WHILE powering up the Aura FOR the Satellite receiver to go into Bind mode. ( I do not see this step in this video at 8:23 )
This is frustrating. I don’t know why I can’t access 6 axis gyro mode. After all initial setup - where 6 axis works - I hit the bind button till it turns blue, but don’t get the control surfaces to do the dance that shows 6axis is initiated. I then back out holding bind and trim and only have on my 3 position switch: no gyro, no gyro, and 3 axis
CAUTION! If you purchase the Aura and a Spektrum SPM4647 Serial Receiver, You need to buy the connecting cable separately. It is not included with either item.

I connected the a5l to the config tool and again perfect but I decided to upgrade my fw 1.13 to 1.16 no problem until I tried to power up again. All The servos swung back and forth to full travel the motor kept beeping and only blue led was flashing slowly on the a5l. I went back to config tool and noticed my movement bars were now gone and both status monitor Windows say unavailable in autodetect mode. But it did show the proper fw1.16. I decided to do a reset as per your UA-cam video using the config tool and convert option it’s said it went well and an orange led on the a5l lit briefly but. Once it was all done same slow blue flashing led and servos going crazy. I tried my second a5l and it works perfect. Need help, thanks
Hey Josh. Thanks for this video. Can you do a video like this installing and adjusting the Tactic Wise Gyro? I have a couple that work great right out of the pack, and two that the elevator control are backwards. I looked everywhere for instructions on how to correct this without any success. Thanks
For giant scale, the website mentions a 3d platform needed for the board. Is this something you can link us to a file for?
Great....... can I use my FrSky Taranis Q X7?
rrene gadoo yes
@@FliteTestTech thx..... do you have a taranis Q x7 video setup?
Would this work with FLYSKY receivers?
Anyway to hook crossfire up to this?
Hi, SPM4648 is retiring. What should I use instead as satellite receiver for DSMX?
That way, you wouldn't have to manually adjust the subtrims in the Aura..
can you use it with arduboy or iNAV?
That 10 second stick hold for swapping direction had better be only before the first prop power up. Otherwise doing lots of rolls or loops in a row might be a problem. If it’s every time the throttle is down then gliders next ware. Oh wait. I think I missed a mode switch step that would protect it just fine.
As noted elsewhere, this is only when the special setup mode is enabled (by a long press of both buttons)... NOTHING while in the normally booted flight mode (orange+green LEDs) :)
can you run this board on 1s
How does this system compare to eflite safe or As3x? Or let’s say an admiral gyro?
is the flight controller compatible with a flysky fs i6 remote control? I would be very interested and please reply, thank you :)
Does this have rth and osd
That looks so much better than the old FlyMentor system...cameras and gyros and 3 big boxes....
Ross Fallacaro I have the same problem
CAUTION! If you purchase the Aura and a Spektrum SPM4647 Serial Receiver, You need to buy the connecting cable separately. It is not included with either item.
What if I have more channels. Like flaps for example
@FLITETEST, Is this gyro compatible with the Spektrum DX6i? Hope it does.
Will this work with crossfire?
GREAT video and awesome board!!!
Good Explanation. Well done sir!
How about a video with FrSky setup?
Sure :)
@@FliteTest ty for the SPEKTRUM setup this has been my method for years, now ive added crossfire, but also have a QX7.. and side note anyone WHO has spektrum if running digital servos u can set radio to 11ms.. ;)
