- This video will show you how to grow an olive tree from the seed.
Make sure to use an olive that has been picked directly off a tree. Pickled olives will not germinate.
Once planted ensure that your plant receives adequate sun and that the soil is well drained.
It will take an olive seed approximately 40 days to germinate.
I ate an olive from taken from a jar (fermented in Australia). I pushed the seed into a pot of mint plants I already had and gave zero thoughts. I had placed the pot under a tree somewhere in the garden once the mint was over and forgot about the olive. After a couple of months I accidently saw an olive plant. Dug a hole and planted it on the ground. It has now been 5 years since. I now have an olive tree that is over 4 feet tall. It has branches going everywhere. I love it.😆
I'm going to try this. How long did it take for you to notice it sprouted?
Seriously, from a pip, that was IN BRINE!!! come on
@@johanconradie2120 I've also seen others claim that canned/fermented olives won't germinate. It would be interesting to try it out, though? What's the real cost?? You're going to throw out the pits anyway, so why not give it a try??
the fermentation process kills the life germ in the olive pips?
Subhan Allah (praise be to God)
Thank you for breaking my heart 🤦🏻♀️I had so much hope and dreams for my collected seeds from grocery store olive bar 😂😆
😂 get the seed and try anyways you never know 👀
Same. I also thought I could cultivate from store bought :/
You are not alone :(
Loool same here! Ima try though😌
From Seed surely i've done that already and also playing Chopin 🎹 and keep 🤞🏻 😉🙏🏻
I ate an olive from the fridge and I broke the pit. I didn’t think I was going to find a germinated seed from a refrigerated olive... I’ve just planted it and I really hope it will grow :))
Has it grown?
NOOOOOOOOOOO SEED BROKEN = death of seed waaaaaaah why did my beloved olive plant die waaaaaaa😭
Which side of seed to plant in soil..lik the tip or bottom
Hahahah step one “make sure it’s an olive from a tree” .... there goes my dreams lmao
I just planted 4 olive seeds from pits from some restaurant olives... looking forward to see if they'll grow or not.
Did they grow?
So ?
Update?
So?
I have just eaten a green olive out of my shop bought jar and it had a olive seed in it!! I am hoping I can germinate it and grow it into a tree! Fingers crossed it will work! 🥰☮️🌞
Did it grow?
Any update..😅
Amazing video, straight to the point
I nearly broke a tooth on an olive pit and decided I was going to plant it. I hope it grows.
As long as the olive is straight from the tree you might have some success. If it’s a pickled olive I am afraid it will not germinate...
From Seed I have a seed from tree it was placed in water with lemon when it was sent to me, can I still use the seeds to plant olive tree?
@@fromseed4787 if it's protected with natures exoskeleton the it is possible. The pickling may not penetrate what God designed for protection.
@@fromseed4787wish that was in the video
And here I was, about to sow an olive pit thinking it was the seed 🤦♀️🙈😂
Thanks for sharing this information, must try that. Never succeeded before, hope this time works better...
I will try it out now, i hooe it doesnt care if the olive comes from the can, i think it will work
I always grow the ones stuffed with garlic. Can’t wait to have garlic olives growing. ;)
Hi, just found a native olive tree to Texas. The olives are falling off now, July 1st. Should I take the fruit off the pit and dry them out? Any other advice would be beneficial. Thank you!
Best place to go local farmers market, buy fresh olives by the bag, cut of flesh, plant in potting mix, come up in 2 months in warm weather, easy to grow, my tree just has babies under it every year, I have saved some given them away at 6 leaf stage.
Olive season just ended down here so now all my olive trees are empty, should've searched this up earlier lol
now i need an olive seed because i need to 'make sure it’s an olive from a tree'
Hi, thanks for this, do you have any experience with growing a fresh seed without cutting the pit?
Not him or her probably but i have it works better actually all these
For fast germination cut open the seed is just a myth later the seed will die and the cutting open seed is gonna be guilty for death of olive seed do not trust them and if you did not know (and this will be useful) olives can actually ripen off the tree i know google or youtube is not gonna tell you but i had a experiment and it WORKED! Olives do actually ripen off the tree just make sure to take a big olive like a green-ripe olive
@@AturgulaapGR hi Raddie, noted thanks for sharing
@@organicgrow4440 and a faster way to ripen olives off the tree is to put them in a bag
Thanks for your short and useful video!!! The olive wich is picked straight from the tree, should it be matured or even a green unmatured olive will be ok???
Best is to wait for them to mature, remember not all olives go black, it depends on the species
I never throw away seeds. I bury them in a pot and sometimes they sprout.
do you water said pot
@@BetterWorldEcosystems Yes.
thank you so much for putting this on your we greatly appreciate it
I picked some olives from my tree in October before they fell on the ground. Since then I have removed the meat from the stone and cleaned the stone. I have put the stones in a slightly moist bag and placed them in my fridge for now.
What is the best time time of the year to remove the seed from the Stone? Also when is the best time of year to plant the seed?
Many thanks Tom
Germinate them at 60°F (inside)
Move them outside after last frost.
Will it grow if I don't open the pit
So did they sprouted?
does the seed need to be in the sun while germinating? i live in canada and our days are short in the winter and we dont get much sun, but i do have a growing lamp, should i use it? or is this not necessary during the germination phase?
the seed is germinating in a cup of soil to be clear
It needs to be in a cold wet place I put mine in a wet paper towel and a ziploc bag in the bottom of the fridge it took months 3 and a have to be exact but terminated I've had 8 seeds germinating, Now tiny little Olive plants
So after germinating what do i do next?
What song is this?
Oof i picked mine from a tree and ate the olives 2 months later after bring so are seeds still good?
Should be, in the past ppl stored seeds.
Thanks for the video
Thank you so much may god bless you !
almost sounds like the lego racer 2 soundtrack
Can we use salty seeds we buy from shops? I think there is no way to get unsalted Olives in India.
Nope. Shop-bought ones are cured and (almost certainly) won’t sprout.
My parents said I couldn’t do it because it needs a windy and a rainy place but in my country it’s hot
Olives are grown in the Sinai highlands all the time. Very dry, hot summer climate, winter wet Mediterranean climate.
Andalusia, south of Spain has the most olive trees in the world. that place is hot and dry. Olive trees thrive there ...
1.28 Minutes of Simplicity,Thx!
Hi. Can someone tell me what the music is?
Yeah sure. It's pretty bad.
Okay sure the seed but what is the song!
Stratification its no neesed?
I‘m in Croatia right now, I hope they don’t mind if I do… the thing
How to open the pit to get the seed? I wasted 4 pits already. Need to use so much strenght to open them, that the seed is also damaged immediately :/
Usually the hard shell will have a seam around it, sort of like peach pits Take a sharp knife, work it carefully inside the seam and pry it open. Though do take care handling the knife.
streagh from the tree? where hell am i supose to get this, i live in canada
Thats why there isnt any olive production in Canada because of the climate that the olive tree cant live in
Olives in Canada!! 😂😂
@@georgestathopoulos1037 so you can grow them inside, and they'll live in a pot the entirety of its life, very resilient plants and eventually trees. Just need ample sunlight in summer. I started them from the pitted seed /cracked open as suggested in this video, but they tend to prefer germinate in cold climate, had mine in a zip lock bag in wet paper towel for months in the bottom of fridge before the sprouted. Make sure to sprinkle cinnamon on them to prevent mold.
Love from Pakistan
From India searching for olive seeds for cultivation, but cannot find anywhere 😫. Could you help me out
If i had a olive tree why would i grow one😭😭😭😭where should i get the seed now
thank ypu so much
Will it give the same fruit quality or size?
And just like that it grows
Were I get seeds
I did not leave the pit to dry out so the seed is wet and I planted it. Will it grow?
Might take longer but you never know 🤷🏽♂️
Well done
How did olives survive without us?
Animals, self seeding
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
From the seeds growing olive tree. After how many years can i get fruit from that tree.please replay me.
All depends on the species but on average it’s around 2 years AFAIK
@@fromseed4787 thanks for replay me.

Hi, there are a lot of conflicting informations about growing olive from seeds. Do they require cold stratification or not?
They Do Require Cold Stratification Just Do It but it can also work WITHOUT cold stratification too
@@AturgulaapGR how much freezing weather do they get in Greece and the Greek islands?
Virtually none.
It snows there about every twenty years, so I wouldn't bother about cold stratification...
They do, I put mine in the ziplock bag in a wet paper towel in the bottom of the fridge It took 4 months but it worked. Now I've got little mini Olive friends
U say remove the pit another place said make a hole in the pit or the seed is useless
Been wanting to grow olive but never had success.
When growing an olive tree from seed, the resulting tree may exhibit genetic variability due to cross-pollination and genetic recombination. This means that the offspring tree may not necessarily inherit all of the desired traits of the parent tree. Additionally, it may take several years for a seed-grown olive tree to reach maturity and start producing olives, and the quality and quantity of the olives may vary.
Nice
Thank You
Lol if I had an olive tree to get a seed from I wouldn't be here
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
How Much does olive need per days ?
Where can you get seeds though. The ones in brine are dead
From an olive tree.
You forgot something: Wait 7 centuries to see the results.
Yeah but that time will go by regardless, friend. Might as well have an olive tree at the end of it. It’s only 5 years anyway.
😂😂😂😂😂😂

did you do a cold stratification?
Yes I just threw it in the fridge and forgot about them for a few months (1 out of 10 grew)
@@karenkarenson8697 was it a fresh olive or jarred? I'm hoping that the one's I bought marinated in oil will grow lol

Olive fruit in kerala vattavada
Nope...from a tree or not.. take the seed and place inside a wet cloth. Spray some more water on cloth, put it inside a plastic bag, fill the bag with air, make a baloon and tie it. Put the plastic baloon inside a dark and hot room and 2-4 weeks later check it and get surprised.
