The NC700 microphone sounded significantly better than the QC Ultra, which was surprising to me, considering that the Ultras were supposed to be a refresh of the NC700s.
How in the WFH era Bose managed to release headphones with microphones significantly worse than QC35 (let alone NC700) is beyond me. Absolutely shocking. Bose, just release QC35 with (1) type c (2) ability to switch noise cancelling from high to low to off and (3) Bluetooth 5.3. That’s it! I’d buy them tomorrow.
I have the NC700 and was thinking of upgrading because I find the call quality almost unusable, especially with any wind - and there have also been all sorts of problems with the firmware. I guess the Ultra isn't the answer.
On the mic quality the NC700 did the best from my perspective in the outdoor and vacuum tests. While your voice sounded more natural on the Ultra's, it also allowed some of the higher freq. of the vacuum to come through with it, while the 700's got rid of it more.
I had both the Qc45 and Nc700, the sound quality is not even comparable, NC 700 have a much richer sound, much clearer highs and mids and plus they are more comfortable because they are made with higher quality materials so it is easier to wear them for long sessions without having yours ears completely sweaty. I'm a musician and have the perfect pitch so I can quite strongly distinguish sounds of different headphones, Nc700 are on another level.

Bose won’t even let you use the headphones powered off with a wire because then you would hear the truth. These are cheap speaker headphones with a digital signal processor to boost the bass and even put the response.
I have the QC35II and have been thinking about getting a new pair, so I really appreciate your video! I’m seriously underwhelmed by the microphone on the QC Ultra. I agree with many of the other comments about the 700’s having a better overall microphone for Bose. Though, I’ve seen some comparisons against the XM5 microphone, and none of the Bose headphones really seem to compare, to my ears. While the ANC on the QC Ultra headphones does seem a bit better than the QC35II, it doesn’t seem like this generation is enough to warrant an upgrade, for my wallet. Maybe I’d feel differently if I were back to flying as frequently as prior to 2020. I would have loved to see a busy coffee shop comparison of these headphones, if that’s of interest to you and your other viewers. Also, like others here, I’d love to see a comparison against the AirPods Max and XM5 cans. Great video, thanks!
Totally put off upgrading - my qc35s are total workhorses- I want to buy Bluetooth 5.3 / USBC / great audio / great anc / great comfort / good mics for phone calls - the rest is useless garbage. Why is it so hard?
@@L.D.1 thanks! I haven’t upgraded yet, and probably won’t unless these just suddenly quit working. I use them anywhere from 2 - 10 hours per day, and my usage has pretty much been that way since day 1 in 2018. With how long I’ve had these and as much as I use them, I’m amazed I still get 20ish hours out of them for music, phone and video calls. When new headphones come out, I’m always looking at them to see if I’m “missing” anything since I use them so much. I would have expected the newer Bose models to have a more refined sound than these since it’s a couple generations newer. I appreciate your comment as it appears I’m not really missing out on much.

When I travel, I’m usually not that far from any of my devices. I agree, USB-C would be great, but I already have the cables for these, as I’m sure you do as well. I have an adapter I bought for like $10 for a set of various USB iterations over the years. I put one on the end of my USB-C cable and then I only have to travel with one cord. I know, not the same as just having USB-C, but it’s a workaround. Take a look at L..D.1’s comment about the sound of the 35’s. I guess the ANC, mics, and comfort are subjective :) I’m sticking with the 35’s for now unless they quit working on me. I don’t need the head rattling bass of the Sony’s, or the AirPods Max statement (and I’m sure they sound good though). For me, Bose killed the Ultra’s with the capacitive buttons. My QC35 has been a solid choice. I had them for 4 years now. I work in a dirty environment and beat them up. They have not been babied. I had a sony before. They fell apart, and they had a feedback screech in the drivers that were so loud. I loved the Sony when it worked. They had better anc and got louder. The head band came apart at the seams. Then came the screech of death. It's a known issue with Sony headphones. My QC35 is a tank and has stood up to the dirty environment and is being used for 10 hrs, 6 days a week for years. I would recommend these to any tradesman. My only gripe is that they are quieter than the Sony at same volume.
The QC35’s I got in 2016 are still going strong. I have no idea how. I’ve traveled all around the world with these things, gotten them wet, never been particularly careful with them. I’ve changed the pads a bunch of times, but that’s it. The original battery still seems to get 8-10ish hours too. I’m may solder in a new battery soon tho.
Based on your experiments, with the rise of people needing to Zoom and talk to one another, the NC 700's sounded the best. As you stood in traffic. Nice reviews.
For conference calls, NC700 with 8 mics do heavy duty active noise cancellation (ANC), QCUltra has only 4 mics and fails on this example for outdoor conference calls. I have over 1,000 hours of conference calls done on NC700 through loud places (airports, Starbucks, outdoor busy streets) and it delivers for conference calls. I am worried QuietComfort Ultra will NOT meet this standard. So, this is a 'backward' motion for Bose on this. QCUltra is super amazing for music. I felt like I was swimming across the waves and rhythms but aptX Adaptive is not supported on iOS devices as of yet. So, you are left with 'inactive' feature - not sure if I will get the same sound quality for music. Finally, at these prices, I am surprised Bose did not put "find my device" technology for loss prevention measure. The cheap (in quality) Apple AirPods Max (got a pair and after just 3 conference calls where it did zero help to cancel noise for other party from hearing, I returned them) got tracking system for loss prevention on them.
My 700s are my everyday phones, I love the touch controls especially when wearing gloves. I just have to remove one glove or mitt to control them. Nice when walking, I have a pair of 35s for working and getting dirty.
The Ultras have slightly better ANC and sound quality, but if you're happy with the 35s (which to me are the most comfortable), then I would say no need to splurge on the Ultras.
i bought the qc ultra a few weeks ago and i will be returning them. the button controls are horrible. instead of volume buttons there is a touch sensitive slider that barely functions and is right next to the other buttons so there are a lot of accidental volume changes/accidental volume cranks. the aluminum brackets also pinch your fingers sometimes when you take them off and since they are metal any vibration will travel into the headphone, if your hair touches them and slides along them as you move your head you can hear it. the ear cups also are really stiff and don't form a good seal around your head if you have a large jaw.
Do you plan to try out the bose quietcomfort headphone ( dropped along with ultra ) ? Heard it's essentially a QC45 with wind block ( not sure if the ANC is improved ).

i had a qc 35ii that i threw away a year ago and just now bought the qc ultras and i could swear the qc35ii's were better in almost every way. i wouldn't recommend upgrading, the button controls are garbage and there's a touch slider instead of volume buttons. another thing is that there is no wired mode like with the qc35ii's, meaning if the battery is dead, the headphones are not usable. and it's like the ultras don't draw any power from the audio jack, i use headphones mostly at the computer and with the 35ii's i would plug them into the copmuter and the battery would last many days because it was drawing power from the computer, but the battery drain on the ultras when plugged in is the same as if they were not.
Also, what i do not understand is why my bose avaiation headset for work is a hundred times better than the consumer one? i understand the aviation headsets are double or triple the price, but if your selling a million more in yhe consumer sector, why the hell arent they at least as good as the bose avaiation stuff?
I had them - mine had the ear pressure problem with ANC turned on. With the Q45s, it works perfectly. That being said, they sound great, especially wired.
Sad that this video is missing the new QuietComfort that replaces the QC45. Do you know if the Aware mode on the new QuietComfort has improved from the QC45 to make it more comparable with the new Ultras?

Time goes by, and the QC35II is still the best Bose headphones ever. It's legendary, people love that classic design, physical buttons, microphones, sound and construction. The QC45 and new QC is a cheap attempt to replicate the original by cheapening everything they can. Hopefully Bose will come to their senses, bring back aluminum, remove the aggressive noise reduction during calls and return to the roots of QC35 in future versions. In the meantime, I have more faith in the Airpods Max 2 if they make an on-off button.

I really don't understand the need for the awareness mode that so many headphones are getting. It clearly boosts outside audio to a higher level than if you took the headphones off and I don't know about you, but I'm not looking to hear things around me even louder. Tested the Ultras and they are a significant upgrade in audio quality compared to previous Bose models, but not being able to torn off ANC (without activating awareness) is a deal breaker! Bose, get you sh*t together and lets have the feature we had on the QC 35 II for years - The ability to turn off ANC without activating any kind of awareness or similar. The Ultras a so close to being the perfect balance between comfort, audio quality, travel size and ANC. Guess I have to keep the QC35 IIs for travel and the B&O H95 for pure audio quality.
Agree that generally one wouldn't want to amplify outside sounds. But there are plenty of use cases where one might want awareness mode. Like walking or biking around the city, to hear any cars--or any other situation where you still want to hear what's happening around you while still enjoying the music.
In my case, I have just the one pair of headphones and wear them when playing guitar along with music. Quiet mode makes the guitar difficult to hear, but aware mode feels and sounds similar to open back style headphones. It's just how I prefer using mine.
You must explain that the codecs aptx is ONLY ADAPTIVE... no aptx hd, no lossless...and you must have snapdragon chip to have the aptx on the ultras... it's important to mention

Got myself the NC700 headphones a few years ago. My only problem with them is the narrow headband which tends to become uncomfortable after a while. I am still unsure whether upgrading to either the QC Ultra or QC45 is worth it....

Don't do it. QC35II still is the top dog in sound quality. QC35II has 8.0 in sound while the ultras have 7.4. Should tell you something

2 bad the normal QC was not in the test. I have the bose 700 and looking for a compare with the normal GC. The ultra is 140 euro more here.
Hey so what happens if you chuck on a pair of the noise cancelling earbuds and put the over ears over the top.

Honestly for this price and as a 7 years owner of a QC35, I don't see why I should upgrade...

the 700 are not comfortable in a margin from the 45 and the ANC is slightly less affective

Unfortunately I haven't tried the Aware Mode on the new QCs, so sadly can't comment on that.
QC35 II's win in terms of sound quality. Neutral, nice, not too much bass.

i think you're right. i really wanted to like the ultras but they just kind of suck honestly.
The QC Ultra headphone do have touch controls. It is the volume control on the right earcup. These touch controls also double as shortcut control.
