I bought these fully expecting I would return them because I didn’t think the price could be justified. BOY was I wrong. The fact that they turn off when not in use makes them last forever without having to put them back in the case. I have the white smoke and they look great with my earrings. Plus they’re great for people with anxiety, to just take the edge off in a crowded room to play some calming music but you can still hear your conversation partner. I will say after several hours I do start to feel a little discomfort but much less than my other buds. And agreed, I have the Shokz OpenRun Pro, Shokz OpenFits, Linkbuds and more and the sound quality for an open style is unmatched.
I've aways been a evangelist for open ear buds, with innovative design, I've owned the Xperia Ear Duo, the Sony Linkbuds and now these Bose Ultra Open. This is the future, a true all-day, immersive wearable. Hands down the best earbuds I've tried, my ears feel naked without them on.
I own them and love them because I still hear surrounding, don't have this isolated feeling, and since I have ear problems (Tinnitus), because they are not in the ear direct, music does not hurt my ear anymore. Most of the time I use them for phone calls. Great product
I have Tinnitus which is really annoying, I’ve tried wearing AirPods Pro, but can’t wear them for a long time! These I can wear all day and I often forget I’ve got them on when I turn the music or book or podcast off!

Airpods pro causes head pressure even with noise cancelling off. The Bose ultra open is really good because there is no feeling of head pressure or stuffiness and the sound is good enough to be enjoyable

Your comments on everything sounding artificial is spot on and I was trying to put my finger on why I like open earbuds and you have nailed it. I have the HUAWEI Freeclips because Bose isn't sold in the country where live. I am going to take a trip overseas this week in order I can buy a pair. I have a few high end earbuds and I can't listen to them anymore.
@4:20 "not fashion" But people happily wore Apples AirPod that looked like you had a q-tip hanging out of you ears. I have the sport open ear from Bose and when you have kids and wife calling you (in the home) open ear is critical. Maybe I'll get these for Christmas.
I really like this design, but there's an issue. It disconnects when I connect to the GARMIN Fenix 6s to play music and activate the running mode. This happens eight times an hour. Both the software is up-to-date.
Agreed, this form factor for the open ear will become the standard. I suspect by this summer we will see versions from Samsung, Sony and others in this design.
I wish but there's one big problem with Samsung Sony and Apple this would have to be a separate earbud unless Apple can come out with a genius move and say noise canceling included
I hope so! 1st gen designs are always a little janky and overpriced because they have to pay back the R&D costs. Competition will also help squash the price down.
Thanks for the great review. I'd already preordered mine (they're due for release where I live next week), and I can't wait to try them out. I was disappointed with the Sony Linkbuds S, and my favourites so far are actually the TOZO Open Buds.
I love the clip on design, since the hook design most jogging earbuds have gets in the way of glasses and facemasks. +1 for physical buttons too. I can't wait to see clip ons for all sorts of earbuds, not just open ear. I can see it being a great way to doubly secure a more traditional sport earbud instead of the usual hooks or horns which can be uncomfortable depending on your ear type. As is, I wonder if it would preserve my hearing better by just wearing 1 normal earbud at lower volume, vs 2 open ear at higher volume (to compensate for the ambient noise).
I like to have call function working well. So I will wait for the next generation to make this improvement. Other than this I love the idea of open earbuds. I will grab a pair once I see the improvement on the call function as this is important for me as well. Great video , thank you. 🙏🏻 ❤
I've just got myself a pair of Huawei FreeClips, and I am surprisingly pleased. I have the Shokz Open run, Sony Linkbuds, but these beat them hands down. They're more comfortable with better bass. The Shokz are great, but these have a very small charging case, which means being able to top up on the go, and they use a non proprietary USB C charging cable. They also have multi connect. I gave an online class with them, and I was happy with how well they performed. I had them on for about 9 hours straight, playing mostly low volume background music and an hour of talking. Sadly, I believe you can't get the Freeclips in the U.S, because they seem like a nice alternative from the Bose ones.
So from the sounds of it, seems like I should get these for my work. I work where I do need to hear, listen, and talk to people and I’m currently using the QC Ultra Earbuds, having only one in at a time and constantly taking the one I have on, on and off, on and off. I think you’d recommend I’d invest in getting these open designs as I wouldn’t have to take them off constantly and still be able to listen to everything I need to hear at work??
Hi! Yes I recommend them for your setup. I have All sony, bose, apple earbuds and until you try them, it's hard to understand how game changing this design is.
I am a big fan of the open ear design and these Bose buds are on my list now. Did you know that Sony had an excellent open design several years ago: XEA20. I still use those regularly for the gym because they really don't come off and very comfortable to wear for hours.
These would be perfect especially in my line of work...i heard the new software update added multi point connection but i still see a lot of recent reviews on amazon and bestbuy about connection issues. Has this been resolved? I am a first responder so these would be perfect around the station or during long 2 hour transports
If you like the Bose Ultra Open, then you will love the Huawei Freeclip. It’s the same open style but it has more features, better call quality and audio.
I'm so torn about buying these because on the one hand I think they're cool and I like the form factor, but on the other hand I can totally see (as you said in the video) other major headphone makers iterating on this design and making something better (and maybe even cheaper), so with their price and the fact that they're a first generation product with this specific form factor, I wonder if maybe I should just be patient and see what comes out in the next year or two. I don't desperately need these, I already own too many headphones, so I'm struggling to justify the purchase.

@@TheFrenchGlow hi thanks for the reply. Yes am using Samsung buds live for some years now. It doesn't go all the way inside ear canal. Just resting a little on the edge of the canal but not going inside. 12 mm drivers, air vents, bass ducts help compensate being an open earbud. Plus on full volume whether on the bus or out and about in the city, it performs like a normal in earbud. ANC not wow but does a good job with loud engine noises or airplane noise. If medium volume you can sort of hear people talking whom are loud and low frequency sounds like screeching brakes of the train etc. Overall am satisfied with it but comfort is questionable sometimes. It does tend to pop out sometimes and you need to adjust it sometimes as it's quite big and won't go inside ear canal so depends on your movement etc. So not completely secure. Hello, I'm an audiobook listener and don't listen to music, so I always use only one earbud. For me, the MOST IMPORTANT feature is not comfort, not sound quality, but the ability to fully control the earbuds using only one of them when the other is in its case.
