  • We carry on with our journey up the Avon, from Twyning to Pershore. Just three locks today but not an easy journey as the heavens open just as we get to one of the locks.
    Relieved to finally get to civilisation at Pershore.

    Michael and Jo: the way you portray life on the Narrowboat is so down to earth, as I have said before, it bare repeating, your style of VLOG is like neighbours chatting over the back fence.We need more people like you in our lives.

    It would nice to see this stretch in better weather as it looks very promising ...George is happy what ever the weather as long as he has a ball to chase. Miserable wet day but you both made the best of it ...even though you were wet and cold.

    Came down the Avon in August - had a great night at Piesse hotel in Wyre Piddle, then staggered down the garden to our moored boat. What a difference a few months makes. You should do it again in the summer. Be sure to spend a few days in Stratford, beautiful town.

    • @MinimalList

      Was it very busy in the summer? The best thing about doing it in November was having the whole river to ourselves!

    My wife and I moored at Pershore in the fall. It turns out that you should consider not mooring overnight under chestnut trees in the fall. It was a little noisy overnight!
    I liked that you are supposed to leave the gate open when you leave the locks on the Avon. The flow from the paddles was really intense, though - they were not kidding about using two lines in the locks there!
    Enjoying your trip!

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  5 років тому

      Oops on the chestnuts. It’s so nice arriving at a lock on the Avon to find the gates open so you can drive right in.

    November is my least favourite month. Thomas Hood summed it up:
    No sun - no moon!
    No morn - no noon -
    No dawn - no dusk - no proper time of day.
    No warmth, no cheerfulness, no healthful ease,
    No comfortable feel in any member -
    No shade, no shine, no butterflies, no bees,
    No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds! -
    November!
    Here we are in December and I had to scrape the ice off my car for the first time, this morning. But, at least, there is Christmas and New Year to look forward to. Then, the snowdrops will pop up again, followed by the crocuses and daffs and there's a light at the end of the tunnel.
    November, however, is a no-no.
    I hope the grey skies don't make you blue and the blue skies follow you! x

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  5 років тому +1

      November has never been my favorite either, though in recent years I've been glad for the opportunity to feel like I'm well ahead of all the people who stop shaving for the month! But at least we're in December now, just a few more weeks and over the hump and the days start growing again! M

    I was wondering about the amount of thrust the boat has against current. I think that would frustrate me if I couldn't do it efficiently and got slowed down. I would be thinking of attaching a 40-50 hp outboard on the back that I could raise and lower into the water fixed not to steer just give thrust. I'm probably way off on my thinking here.

    There are separate notifications for when you are about to upload/publish a video? Wow! I suppose that is only available for Windows or android. I have only 1 Bell to click and if I click it, it turns notifications off. Huh. Maybe I should buy a new device? Nahhh. I like the surprise of getting the notification that the upload is complete and ready to view. The suspense would kill me if I was first notified that you were about to. What if lunch came? I would be at the edge of the seat waiting and you had pushed the laptop aside. Or you started the upload then put it aside, missing the fatal error message that the upload failed. Yes, this is best. Oh, and on the topic of clicks and clicking: I taught digital medical data acquisition for many years. Not intentionally picking on nurses but were not familiar with computers and I took to adding a day of basic computer operations and hardware introductions. If you suggest that they ‘select ‘ the bell, they would check their paperwork for a menu of sorts. If you suggested that they ‘click ‘ the bell, they would understand that you wanted them to maintain focus on the screen and maneuver the mouse to place the arrow over the bell and (wait for it!) CLICK the bell. So while ‘click’ may be the less favorable term for selecting something on screen, it remains the command of choice when teaching computer newbies. In my less than humble opinion. Just saying, not taking sides. Jo? What term are you familiar with? I cannot think of another word. Not being catty, I really can’t think of anything else.

    • @MinimalList
      @MinimalList  5 років тому

      She mainly gives me guff on the click thing because I sometimes just say "like, click, and subscribe" without specifying WHAT to click, and other times I say silly things like "click the comment button" when there isn't one! If I suggest clicking specific things that you can actually click she leaves me be! ;-) M
