Hey man I've been checking in on your box van build and you've done a great job showing the process. This repair video is top notch. You really have a great way of explaining things in a very simple and understandable manner. Combined with good audio and camera angles this is some of the best auto repair content on UA-cam. Bravo man, looking forward to more. 👍🏼
I hardly touch anything on my honda, but seeing this gives me confidence. Confidence that I can learn to replace parts in the gmc savana with instruction and time.
OMG, how did you know I always wanted to learn how to replace a GMC Hydraulic Brake Booster!?! (LOL, never heard of it. But at least I know there's no such thing as blinker fluid!)
as a european watching the news i think you are very smart doing this instead of buying a home it looks like the economy is about to take a dump....no bills no rent...no loans will win
We love that you mix your content up, you did a bang up job on this repair, looking forward to all the replacements on your van, the lift and water pump, the brakes and whatever else you find while working on your van to improve it. I replaced all my brakes on my 2500-K with "E.B.C." brakes & rotors ... Really nice stuff, not over the top expensive 😊. Available through "SUMMIT" enjoy❕️ See you next time, ✌🏻❤️ 🇨🇦.
Really good video! Love the old school manual. Did a set of brakes with no knowledge and a chiltons manual 30 years ago. Great idea to pass on some self reliance to the other van lifers!
You’re a very talented man. I can tell you’re a certified GM Tech. I sold them in the early 2k’s and can recognize a pro when I see one. When you go OTR living the van life you’ll have no problem getting jobs at dealers wherever you stop to top up your bank account.😉 Sure enjoy all your videos, from van build to camping to now wrenching on that Express. You can do well with these repair videos man, your audio and cam work you have perfected too especially for doing it all yourself! Keep it up, you’re a Rock Star!👍🏼👍🏼✌🏼👊🏼
Watching the Van Build but have to comment. Always gain knowledge on all I watch online. I have to say that my Wife breaks everything. UA-cam has always been my friend. My family buys and keeps all their vehicles. You have to learn to save money by doing it yourself. Just changing brakes and rotors to general maintenance is a chore. The more you know! Cheers!
I had a steering gearbox go out awhile back and it dumped all the power steering fluid out just trying to get home lol. I never paid much attention to what fed that hydroboost because I’ve never had to and after I lost all my power steering fluid then my brakes went out too. I was able to get home and rebuild the steering gearbox (output seal was damaged), and bleed the system by myself. It wasn’t as bad as I thought it would be. If you lose your power steering belt you’ll lose your brakes as well. Keep that in mind and always keep spare belt(s) and power steering fluid. I don’t remember if I did a big video on it when I did it (I think I did) but thanks for sharing your experience!
Great job on the booster replacement and the video production/editing. You are an easy person to listen to and consistently show that you know what you are talking about. I was a little worried when I saw you missing the battery cable repositioning, but you calmly caught it and owned it, most UA-cam videos never show mistakes. I hope viewers will develop more interest in doing some maintenance / repairs themselves, saving themselves some money and building confidence along the way. Again, nice job, and I look forward to more.
Great first video of many to come looking forward to your great advice and good instruction for the task at hand and explaination of the things typically needed to complete the job and things to look out for in the disassemble and re assembly as well as things to do and look for before and after the job to make sure the job is completed and done right looking forward to the next one Kraig from Washington State
Great video and repair, very well done and thorough. One of the most crucial parts though is diagnosing your problem. You did mention that the old one was leaking, was that the only noticeable sign that it was bad or were you also experiencing an issue with the performance of the brakes or brake pedal? People dealing with a similar issue will surely come here to see if it is what they are experiencing on their van.
it just failed due to leaking. if the power steering fluid runs out on these vans you lose power assist for the brakes. it's my friends van who i rent my shop from, and i noticed the puddle on the floor
What do you think about finger starting\tightening your steering lines to the booster before you cinch up the unit under the dash, start the nuts so it wont fall out, but leave a little play
Can’t go wrong with a Haynes manual. Every person who works on their own vehicle in the U.K. started out with Haynes, as taught to them by their Dad usually.
I had a 2006 Dodge Caravan, 3.3V6. The power steering reservoir filter unit and fluid was always the culprit. I always used mopar or valvoline fluid and they were equivalent. You never knew how long the fluid would last. The heat where I live would just break any fluid down. I would change the reservoir filter unit every year whether it needed it or not and the fluid as preventative maintenance. I had twelve reasonable years with the caravan. After that, everything fell apart. I regret fixing everything the last two years of the fourteen years that I owned it. Computer fried after suspension, fuel tank, fuel line, fuel injectors blew, water pumps, cooling system, wheel bearings. I'm sure the Chevrolet / GMC is much better. Then again, the caravan is nothing more than a glorified.dodge intrepid car.
Your joking? My savanna express build has been on hold for 17months from a leaking brake booster that I didn’t trust any mechanic to tackle even though I purchased the repair kit (not many good American car mechanics in Oman). I finally bit the bullet and got someone to “repair” it literally last week! (I have yet to test it out properly). I’ve watched all your videos from the start of your build and NOW you want to address the brake booster for a GMC savanna?!? Oh the irony 🤣🤣

thanks Brian! i appreciate the kind words. i love your videos as well and have been watching for a while now.

Ditto what Adventure Van Man said. I can tell that you know your subject; you can teach it! Well-done repair vids are rare.
I hardly touch anything on my honda, but seeing this gives me confidence. Confidence that I can learn to replace parts in the gmc savana with instruction and time.
You are multi talented. Carpentry. Electrical. Automotive. Superman!!
Plumbing too
OMG, how did you know I always wanted to learn how to replace a GMC Hydraulic Brake Booster!?! (LOL, never heard of it. But at least I know there's no such thing as blinker fluid!)
Yeah no need for blinker fluid 😂😂
But bumper bearing maintenance is very important
Thank you for that laugh. I haven't heard the blinker fluid joke in awhile.
as a european watching the news i think you are very smart doing this instead of buying a home it looks like the economy is about to take a dump....no bills no rent...no loans will win
Awesome, teach people how to help themselves. Love that you are sharing your skills

Your knowledge in so many things is just great, you explain things so well.

That is the exact book I bought for my Chevy. Same brand. I got it from Amazon. My 2 boys got me a nice Dewalt mechanics tool set like 200 pc.
nice! dewalt is good stuff!
Thank you for the great tutorial. I own a 2012 Chevy Express 3500 camper van. I'm looking forward to your other repair videos as well! Great job!

Great tutorial
Good idea. Thanks. My dad always took care of stuff with our cars but I hate to admit that I can't even get the hood open

I have a Haynes Manuel for every car I've owned for the past 40 years.
Like the video that was interesting and awesome keep it going my friend.
Great Video !
Thanks! This was very informative.
This is awesome!!
👍👍👍👍👍

Another tip for beginners is to make photo's with your phone during disassembly.
At least these younger ones have a phone, we didn't....lol
These kids don't know how good they've got it.
Definitely. i still do that sometimes when doing drum brakes
What do you think about finger starting\tightening your steering lines to the booster before you cinch up the unit under the dash, start the nuts so it wont fall out, but leave a little play
yep that'll work too
nice

I swear I saw my last name on the upper radiator shroud!
Working on any van is a pain. But It is sad to see that people don't work on their own vehicles anymore.
Is this truck yours or your friend’s?
it is my friends van.

"If you have a Ford, sell it, go get a 2012 Chevy Express, then come back. We'll wait"
Paying someone to change your serpentine belt is so lazy...
Great video, how big of a lift are you going with 6,4,3 inch ?
probably the 5" weldtec
👍👍👍
