    Hi Polarity, Try to put the loud split in your master track by setting the quiet threshold low enough (-76, -90db ~). Then when you slightly increase the quiet volume you will get an effect like dither, as well as a nice coloring in the mix (especially on drum's, cymbals, hihats, etc.). I think Bitwig's new tools are fantastic, they open up a lot of new possibilities for mixing. I can't wait to continue exploring them and to see more of your videos on the subject!

    Really interesting use. It kind of also has a cool effect of smearing transients a bit like Disperser.

    This device is my favourite and most used of the four so far. Have found a lot of different ways to use it. The container concept for FFT stuff is just great!!

    I used the loud split to emphasise the transients and clean up stuff that way (by removing the quiet parts, which then includes also something like reverb), but I did not think to use it as a resonance tamer.

    I do seem to have an issue with this approach. I love the device a lot, but when applying it to drum loops it seems to use linear phase filtering which messes with the sub's attack

    Now go check the spectral limiter activated by the "Limiter" button of the frequ split device if you haven't already

      yes! sadly no tilt on there or any way to smooth the gain reduction :(

      @@PolarityMusic I just tried to make a little preset with two Pro Q3 in zero latency mode having the exact opposite tilt equalizer, and it seems logic that I don't have any phase effect, they should be perfectly compensated. Didn't ear nor see any strange thing with the DRY/WET @ 50%. So I made another preset with a frequ split device surrounded by those two Pro Q3 and a macro modulator to control the tilt, and tadaaaaa

    I think this is a good technique to add color to the track as Joachim mentioned. I think if you reduce the above frequencies a lot, you will get a comb filter effect? I am yet to try it out.

    I was playing with this device today and noticed that it didn't quite sound transparent when I was blind-testing flipping it off and on again with it's default preset. Adding a tool with -1.2002 gain (you'll have to control-click and type it) dropped the peak of the difference (tested with inverted phase) below -100dB for me.

    Kinda of aside but is eq+ a good device? I heard that it adds lag and have heard it myself but I'm not sure if there is a way around it

      Yes, I too had to get over the thumbnails. Actually implemented a video downloader that saved his videos as mp4 without the thumbnail. He’s not the only person I have had to do that with. His content is too good to miss, but so many creators use thumbnails which cater to the lowest common denominator of clickbait feed promiscuity pixel garbage.
      Kudos to Polarity for reclaiming his much deserved dignity

    very soon you will realize that you are giving bad advice for mixing, with classical equalization the relative dynamics of the processed part of the spectrum remains intact, and with spectral compression the sound tends to be like noise, the slope of which you have chosen; these are literally opposite, in meaning, techniques

      Im offering options. Everything you do in audio processing has its downsides in one way or another. As with every spectral processor it sounds in a certain way and in the end you have to decide if its sounds good to you or not. There is imo no right or wrong.

      It's not bad advice. It's up to the artist to know their tools and use them appropriately. I for one appreciate knowing these more powerful techniques to use in sound design.

      @@PolarityMusic Understandable, it seemed to me that you are offering an alternative without pointing out the obvious shortcomings of the method that are not obvious. The best way to "test" how something works is to take it to the extreme, in the case of spectral compression, the processed sound literally becomes the target for which you adjust it, that is, the music literally becomes pink noise. Don't get me wrong, I myself use spectral compression in my work every day, but it seemed to me after watching the video that what you want to use this method for, by and large, requires ordinary equalization. The example you provide clearly shows excessive suppression of transients and the nature of the sound and its dynamic response. I may have drawn the wrong conclusions about the video. but what I can say for sure is that if the equalizer is blindly replaced with a spectral compressor, the result will be dirtier, less dynamic and flatter. I was there... Thank you for your work, I learn from you every time I watch your new video!

      @@aguenter I totally agree with you, but, as I (maybe wrongly) got it from the context of the video, this method was recommended for mixing, it is totally adequate for sound design. I understand in case you are a mixer for your own tracks it is hard to draw a line between these two things.

      @@korneykretov4668 It's not a mixing tutorial, it's a Loud Split tutorial. Nobody with even minimal experience is going to mistake this video for the former IMO.
