The DS remake had no AI in the game, They learned their mistake after implementing it in the N64 original and causing confusion and harm to many of their fans, that's also why Wario Apparition isn't in the game... well, not as what he supposedly looked like in the original at least.
Also, Waluigi doesn’t have a personality so we made one up so it’s very unlikely that a Waluigi Apparition. The remake isn’t personalized & there were no secret downloadable content unlike the original, or at least, *”not any we have found.” There could very well be another apparition, perhaps Bowser since we did find some... *interesting models of him.*

I think the word "personalized" has been misdefined and misused by a lot of those creepypastas about the game, but i think the better word and more fitting word for me would be "different". I personally think every copy of mario 64 is different, Reason one is that it's actually very very plausible and possible even with the technology back then. If mario is only able to unlock a door if only he has a certain amount of stars, then its possible to code in that if mario killed a certain amount of enemies, more enemies will spawn in the next worlds. It's very possible to code that in and that's already personalizing the game for a specific person's gameplay. My example might not be real, but I have one real example on the game. Remember the levels where you race koopa and race the penguin? If you took a shortcut on one of their races, they will call you out. This little change in dialogue of the characters is already personalizing the game for a specific gameplay that a specific group of people do. It's not about this "every mario 64 is personalized" conspiracy being real, it's about it being actually POSSIBLE in a sense or way. (the wario apparition is totally fake tho lmfao)
This is actually plausible, SM64 was when video games were starting to get *really* complex, 3 dimensions and all that. A single little coding bug in one cartridge there, an error there, and suddenly you have personalized copies, or at least copies that seem personalized.
I love this explanation Imo another thing that discredits the "every copy is personalized" now is the speedruns done by people on the game. The reason I created it was because I wanted to re-ignite the spirit of old-school playground rumors, and I decided that exploiting the mendela-effect-esque phenomena of Mario 64 was good at that, so I created both of those (among many others that i wont even begin to list) posts as a creative writing exercise, and I had no idea they would explode! When I was a kid, I remember having Super Mario 64 on an emulator. My parents bought the disc with the emulator on a shady store (my father went there to buy something else, and we bought it on the way) and installed it. I quickly learned how to open the games on the emulator, yet from all the ROMs the emulator had included, I only remember 2 of them. The first one was Super Smash Bros 64, a game I played often (even when I barely recognized 2 or 3 characters at the time). The other one was what looked like Super Mario 64. But it was off. To start with, its file name was strange. ROM file names tended to be messy, but even then they had some sort of letter combination that gave away the name of the game. This file name looked like a random combination of numbers and letters. But then, when I entered the game, it got even weirder. The game didn't start with a "PRESS START" screen or the save file screen, but it jumped right in the game. Mario spawned on a huge green field, surrounding what looked like Peach's castle. I moved my character around and quickly realised his model didn't have a face. There weren't any pop-up messages, or a life indicator, or any interface. I tried to reach Peach's castle, but even after minutes of walking the unforgiving distance between my character and the castle didn't show any signs of decreasing. Was it a weird ROM hack? Yet when I played the game it seemed totally normal for me, since I really haven't seen what Super Mario 64 really looked like. After a while, my parents uninstalled the emulator, due to it being infested with viruses. Oh yeah also sorry for my bad english

Was it really 10 years ago that the creepypasta was on the internet scene? It feels like it was so long ago, but so recent. I remember the days of smile dog and all the really far fetched stories. My friends would swap stories on the playground to scare one another, and now I’m currently finishing my masters degree. I feel old.
Mario 64 just feels like a heaven version of the backrooms. Bright wall colors, long stairwells and hallways. Rooms with mirrors and paintings. A secret fountain garden full of boos. I loved playing that game just to walk around, run in the hedge maze and swim in the pond outside.

Early 3d era games are such a gold mine for unsettling content. Dunno if its just the association with being an imaginative, gullible kid at the time or my experience in scouring collectathon games and exploring every corner I could, but something about those very jagged polygonal worlds just always makes me think that, maybe there is more we're not seeing, even to this day

Mario 64 just feels like a heaven version of the backrooms. Bright wall colors, long stairwells and hallways. Rooms with mirrors and paintings. A secret fountain garden full of boos. I loved playing that game just to walk around, run in the hedge maze and swim in the pond outside.
